Overall good game

i have just recently gotten the new thps4. I have also played all of the other thps's and own thps2. In comparison with thps2 it is a very different game. they now have a free skate style for career and in the level there are icons that have certain tasks. the levels are bigger, but there are less of them. There is more career goals and they are vary in difficulty. The only downfall that thps4 has is that the graphics for the create a skater is terrible. It is extremely sloppy and you can barely tell what your person looks like. Other than that one little hitch i would recommend it.

From Thps 1 all the way to Thps 4 this game has improved in everyway possible. You (the player) will play this game for hours because it is so fun. This game has amazing graphics, lots of fun/challenging goals, HUGE levels. You get all of the skaters that you had over the years of playing tony hawk pro skater, new secret characters, and of course my favorite "make your own skater." The thing i like a lot about the career mode is that there is no time limit, so you get to skate and not be all worried about hurring up, the only time you get a time limit is when you accept a mission from a person in the streets...thats right folks you get to talk to people in the streets and they tell you what to do, FUN! If i could change one thing about this game then i think it would be NOTHING. People just trust me on this one, YOU WILL LIKE THIS GAME.

Quite Possibly Better Than it's Excellent Predecessor

I had played a demo of this game, that offered about half of the first level. And having been a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater fan since the very first game came out on Playstation 1, I didn't know what to expect from the new career mode. After playing the demo I was a little disappointed. Sure, the skating was as wonderful as ever, and the level design was still pure genius, but there was something about the new career mode that bugged me.
In case you did not know, the career mode for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 is much different from the first three games in the series. It is basically a Free Skate until you talk to one of many characters in the levels that will give you goals, lots of which are similar to goals in the first three games, but many of which are new.
Anyway, after renting the game and playing through it I am pleased to say that the new career mode is awesome. Once given a chance, it is truly amazing, and almost all of the level objectives are extremely entertaining. The objectives do get incredibly difficult about half way through though, and it'll be tough completing all of them, but hang in there, because its worht it. A gem.

i think that tony hawk 4 is a great game all besides that the last two levels are about impossible to beat... the missions are not within human ability to beat.. thats what i think but besides that i like everything else

This game is very nice to look at; the skaters all handle in a realistic manner, and the levels are pretty large and varied. There's a nice all-encompassing 'unlock all' cheat (watch_me_xplode) that makes all levels and skaters available without actually completing all the challenges.

One thing that nobody here really mentions is that although skating about trying your hand at a series of small frustrating challenges is fun for a while, the main attraction for me is the 2 player function. There's a wealth of different game modes, but for me the most entertainment is the simple game of chasing (called Slap) which is great fun once you've become familiar with the skate parks (although the collision detection is a little iffy.. "Got you! Whaaaat?!? You got me?!?")

Anyway, top purchase and the best of the series.

I think this is one (yes ONE of) of the greatest games created. The gameplay with no time limit, more "less having to do with skating" missions, and graphics are awesome. Of course no one can perform as good as you and a controller can, but thats what gives it the fun. I have all the thps's and this one is the best. I also just got an adapter and online play is sweet. 8 players, new games, better than thps3 online, in which I have also. In overall its just a must have. Thanks! Andrew

best for 2002

This was the most fun game of 2002. The difficult tricks, unlockables and sheer whackiness of the game kept me coming back for more. If i could give it 10 stars i would. If you haven't played this game yet,do yourself the favor and get it. If you're looking at reviews to make a decision save some time and just get it, you will not regret it. The only thing that you could say negative about this game is that it might be too difficult for some, causing frustrated players to slam their controllers on the ground. But for those who can handle sore thumbs go know your role and just bring it.

Tony Hawk 4- the best yet!

Tony Hawk 4 is a great game! I got it and I can't believe how awesome it is. Some of the great new features are the skitch- which isn't all that practical, but is still cool, and seperate goals for all the skaters. Also, it has the best Create-A-Skater yet, and you can make some wild and crazy guys with it (and girls too). Overall this game is pretty good, except for that it takes a long time to beat (which actually isn't necessarily a bad thing I guess).

Tony Hawk's career in video games isn't quite as long-running as his day job, but it looks like he is going to make a run for it...these games just keep coming for virtually every platform out there. And while Hawk 4 doesn't exactly break new ground (there are a couple fresh twists here and there) it does offer more of what fans have come to know and love. The levels are huge, action is smooth, lots of real music, hidden characters, the whole kit is intact.

I must add that while the levels are large and detailed, nothing here matches some of the locations on the older titles. For example, the school on 1, New York on 2, and Suburbia on Hawk 3. All those levels stand out in my mind, however, there isn't really anything on Hawk 4 that holds up over time. Either that or this series is starting to run out of steam.

Whatever the case, Hawk 4 is worth the money.

This game is off the hook! It really is what true skating games are all about-fun with awesome tricks, yet realistic enough for everyone! The games' controls and specials are almost too easy. The graphics are spectacular! Especially during specials! I recommend this game to anyone who even barely likes skating. I mean, its' just so fun! I personally don't like skating that much, yet I still play the games 'cuz there so fun. The only thing you need for this game to be better than it already is are the cheats! They make the game even better! The C-A-S mode can make your face/body into a pro! And the C-A-P-E is awesome for making huge fantisy parks to skate in! [c-a-p-e = create a park editor and c-a-s = create a skater.] The bottom line is, even though THUG is out, you will still love THPS4!
