You're a huge robot running through a city demolishing stuff. What's not to like? Graphics look good and the gameplay works well.

I was almost a Slave

... Slave Zero is a very nice game, emphasis on the very. The storyline is simple but original, you are controling a pilot who has just stolen a large mecha/android far superior to any Gundam around. Using a variety of weapons, you must ascend the miles high city defeating other slaves as you go. There is no wandering around, you are going up or you're dying. I thought it distracting (fun) that you could pick up cars and throw them. They will explode on contact with anything. Humans are also available for throwing, but they are harder to grab and often end up under foot.

The graphics are fine, they aren't choppy but they aren't jaw dropping either. The controls are annoying, for instance, to pick up something, you have to hit two or three buttons at once. Once you get used to them though, it isn't that bad. The game itself isn't too hard, especially in the easy mode. Sniping is recommended and is all too easy, the enemy makes constant noise. The bosses are easy to beat, but I don't believe it's just me when I say that the last one is invincible. That is why I give Slave Zero 4 points, the last guy is infuriating, I still loathe him. He's about five times bigger than you, has about ten times your health points and a huge weapon that practically kills you in one blow. With that in mind you have to be constantly circling him trying to get him in your sights without getting hit. So it would have been nice if you could end the game, but otherwise it's a fine game. I suggest sticking to two player gaming, it's much more fun and the levels are very intricate. I got lost a couple of times on one level, but that is trivial. At least you can beat the other player... maybe.

One more thing, it was very nice of them to include third and first person views, though personally I thought third person perferable. The city is close set, making it hard to play around when you have a limited view of things. When playing two player games, third person is especially better considering the levels you must play are often small, intricate but small, and the quick pace doesn't allow for looking around for a place to jump to.

Hey, love the action, great weapons, and bots, but is it just me.. or is the ultra slave unbeatable? Zero has lovely gameplay, and I like the game, but it seems to me that I gather alot of weapons, and I know the plot line, have enormous health, and still I cannot beat the last man. Am I to resort to codes or what?

Slave Zero while fun with explosive action, giant robots, and many destructive weapons and things to blow up has some flaws as far as graphics and sound. The gaphics are somewhat choppy and sometimes the sound efects sound cruddy even worse there is no in game music, but these are easily overlooked there's enough explosions to make you forget about the game music and great graphics aren't always needed to make a goog game.

SLAVE TO NO ONE

Slave 0 is awesome!!! Enough said. This game takes place in the future when robots are everywhere. You are a huge robot, that is trying to destroy a mad man's evil plans by destroying his big robots and single-handedly save earth. The games graphics are not great, but not bad, and the controls, though a little complex make the game all the more challenging. I think one of the most interesting aspects of the game is the fact that you have a mostly interactive environment. You can blow up buildings, hurl cars, shoot people, or stomp them (whatever yu prefer). The game has no music, which is a drag, but just hook up a cd player to some audio cords and put those into the input of your t.v., and you can play your own music. All-in-all, GREAT GAME.

Major Problems but Still Fun

A decent one-playthrough game title. There are 15 missions, with only a little variety (mostly charge forward and beat the next boss). Even with sometimes massive slowdown and even sound glitches under heavy fire (such as sound cutting out--and no music!), this game does provide some good 3rd-person blasting action.

You'll find that the main impetus to continue is not the bosses or new levels. Those really all look too similar. What attracts is the weaponry you find as constant upgrades. Some of the later weapons pack a VERY meaty punch in effect, visuals, and sound.

Guaranteed, though, once you defeat the stupidly lengthy (easy, but requiring 15 full minutes of repetitious attacks) end boss battle and see the "ending", that's it. It's done for good.

I was a big giant wobot!

And I stomped on all the little people and then I picked them up and threw them against the wall and then I blew up the other wobots wiv my gun and then i blasted more baddies wiv my missiles and then .....
Makes you feel like you are 40 storeys high and has plenty of variety in the missions.

Way cool game!

I dont know why the other reviews say this game was terrible. On my opinion, this game is really cool! During the game you get cool weapon upgrades and get to blow up building and cars and even people!(When you shoot a person with a machine gun, they die and fall to the floor and leave a puddle of blood!)In case you didn't know you are a colossal robot tramping through cities blowing up robots! The only thing is that when there is too much action on the screen the graphics get a little choppy. But if you go to options, you can change your view to first person. This way the graphics seem to run smoother. There are not many codes for the game though. And when I tried them they didn't seem to work. But over all, I would give this game 5 stars!

I love this game though i'm still only on the first level. It is the funest game that i have on my dreamcast. It is a must buy for those who love action war games. And for the price that I got it at. Well I'll just say this it is worth your ten dollars. If you are intereted in robotics you would probably love this game. This is definitely not a game for wosses that get scared easilly.

JUST A DUMB GAME

It's just too bad. There was a lot to like here, but after all is said and done, action fans will be well served to hold back their hard-earned bucks for the likes of Kain 2 or MDK2 than put down the dough for this one. It's pretty obvious that the game's intent got lost somewhere between publishing deadlines, and the game could have been so much more. If you're as disappointed by this news as I was, keep in mind that the PC version ought to be able to lick the frame-rate problem and could be worth a look.
