What went wrong

The Test Drive series have had so much potential in the past few years with consoles getting more powerful, and with the Dreamcast arriving it should have had the perfect marriage, but all is not well 3D land.

My major complaints are the cars in particular, they handle like a unicycle with quirky handling, as if a Venturi, and other pure exotic cars actually handle that bad, I don't think so, the handling and physics of the game are completely annoying.

As for the look of the game the backgrounds are beautiful and richly textured, but the cars are a different story, they look dull and uninteresting.

It's understandable that the developers are rushed to finish a product to meet deadlines by their parent company, but rushing games will only eventually tarnish a brand such as the Test Drive series. If they are willing to spend two to three million in television and print advertising on a game, it leads me to think they were not in it for a perfect product but much rather a fast profit.

Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware). Rent it first!

Test Drive 6 is good in some ways a terrible in others. The game offers good cars to race with but there are only six cars. You can drive cop cars which is fun for a while but soon gets boring because there are only four cop cars. The graphics do not test the limits of the wonderful Dreamcst. The game is very slow. You would be going faster on a trisicle than you would racing cars on this game. THE HANDLING IS TERRIBLE. You are constantly hitting walls and running into lightposts. You might want to rent it but you do not want to buy it.

not bad but not up to par

first i was very interested in the fact that you could up grade your car, always a plus. the learning curve was only about 15 minutes, but after that it was very enjoyable but i do have some complaints, first the sound of the cars was terrible, a 1968 mustang doesn't sound like a honda on extacy, first it was all deep and throaty then it became high pitched like it had a 4 cylinder in it, big disappointment. second you could only choose dodge and ford cars, what a rip! what ever happened to chevy or god forbid a porsche. i was sad to see so many stinking lotus' cars, one or two would have sufficed. i also think this is a Cruisin' USA on steriods but 100 times faster, and nothing like gran turismo. the speed of some tracks are just amazing how fast they fly by, very exciting. graphics are very nice, but i would have liked to seem some damage on my car, ya know like desruction derby, but i don't think the people at infogames didn't think about that. music is very very very nice, love fear factory, eve 6 and its about time cottonmouth kings got some airplay! i would rather listen to gary numan than the horrible sounds of the engines in this game, but still an exciting very fast paced game. lets see DC get something to compete with GT 'cause i'm sick of mouching of my friends playstation when i KNOW my DC is better by far!

Oh God!! Not again.....

I hated the same game in the Playstation and the same creators could not improve the game in the much more POWERFUL sega Dreamcast. What a Pity and huge Surprise!!!!!This game does not reach ur expectations. For God`s sake don`t even think to buy this game. The cars don`t SEEM to be cars AT ALL.If u r expecting any BANGS from Dreamcast games ,then go for Test Drive Le Mans,or Ferrari355 Challenge,or Metropolis Street Racing......And never look back to 3rd class games like Test Drive6 or Roadsters or Monaco Grand Prix or F1 world grand prix.first read the reviews and then think and then buy the game u need...

Fun for Arcade Racing Fans

Test Drive 6 is a fun game, but only if you like arcade racing. Remember Cruisin' USA...this is it times 10. Real cars that can be upgraded and painted. Of course they have the cop chases, alah Need for Speed, tournament racing, and single races. This is no Grand Turismo and anyone that is buying a race game for realism should go elseware. If you like arcade fast pace racing this is one to go with. The music is a plus too. The title theme is Cars by Fear Factory and other bands like Kotten Mouth Kings and Eve Six show up. Only one other problem I have with the game is that the 2 player split screen is vertical. I can't see where the next corner is.

Test Drive 6 is a blast. I own four racing games for the Dreamcast--the other three are Sega Rally, Hydro Thunder, and Speed Devils--and Test Drive is the most fun. It is packed with tracks and cars, its learning curve is reasonable, and its extra options push it over the top. Handing out tickets as a way of "fundraising" for those times when you have bet too enthusiastically for your skill level is a fun twist. The cop chase in two player mode is almost as fun as trying to blow up one another in two player mode of the Rush franchise (N64). The graphics are solid, though not great, and the music rocks.

Alot of Fun, but could be better

This was one of the first games I bought for my DC, so I was very impressed with it at first. But after seeing the graphics available in other games, I've become disenchanted with it. It doesn't support more than 2 racers at a time, and doesn't have any 'tremor' support. The steering is was too tight, and I found it doesn't translate well to a racing wheel.

On the other hand, I found it more entertaining than the other 'race track' games available, racing in the streets beat outrunning cops beats 'doing laps' as far as I'm concerned.

really disappointed

I was going to buy this game but after reading the mixed reviews here I decided to rent it first. I'm a big fan of racing games, but TD6 was a big let down. The graphics are horrible by DC standards (low poly models, small tiled textures, ugly mip mapped road), and except for a higher screen resolution, would even be marginal on the PSX. There are a bunch of controller settings but every single one has brake/accel on the triggers which I find really uncomfortable. The collisions are annoying (sometimes you go right through trees/poles and other times you don't). I hate to say it but TD6 felt slapped together and the whole game had an amature feel to it... like a good shareware game. Rent it before you buy it IMHO.

EVERYONE IS SAYING THAT IT ISN'T GOOD BUT BELIEVE ME IT IS. IT IS SO FUN I EVEN LOOKED UP CHEATS FOR IT. THE PURPOSE OF RACING IS SO YOU CAN EARN MORE MONEY SO YOU CAN BUY A NEW CAR. NOT VERY MANY RACING AWARD YOU MONEY FOR WINNING A RACE. YOU CAN ALSO GET CARS LIKE A VIPER, JAGUAR, MUSTANG, ECT... SO BELEIVE ME GET THIS GAME.

Not a Sim/Not Arcade

The editorial review is right on. This is too hard for the Arcade Race fans (say people who like Daytona USA) and too inaccurate for Sim Race fans (Gran Turismo fans).

Consequently, you get a game not likely to make anyone happy. Doesn't take advantage of the Dreamcast capabilities very well. Looks like a PS1 game.

Pass on this one.
