Disappointing - Seriously

Just bought the game, and this was the worste 60 dollars spent. Graphics are nothing to brag about. Gameplay is nothing special, feels like I am playing a game that game out years ago. Tom Clancy needs to step his game up. I will be returning this game to EB Games ASAP. COD4 for the win.
Do Not Buy!!!

the difficulty ruins the game

this is by far the hardest game i have ever played. I am about half way threw campaign and i have died atleast 100 times, playing on the easy difficulty! Other games like halo and call of duty i can beat easily on normal and with some difficulty on hard. I have decided to finish campaign just so i can feel like i got my moneys worth but the fustration it is bringing me is putting me on the verge of insanity. Stay very far away from this game!!!!!!

What a disappointment. Aside from the fact that it's basically a rehash of the first episode, my copy of the game was/is plagued with all kinds of bugs /technical glitches...the most annoying being the fact that the game cuts out 3/4 of the way through playing the primary storyline. I get a 'Disc Unreadable' error and then it craps out. After several attempts to get ahold of ANYONE at Ubisoft, I've resigned to just selling it at Gamestop without even completing the game. Awful.

quite a bit rushed

having enjoyed the original RAINBOW SIX VEGAS i was really looking forward to getting this. i was looking forward to playing this online. man was i disappointed. almost to the point of being p****d off. no respawns on ranked play. as soon as you're dead that's it. and i thought SPLINTER CELL sucked. i would've given it another 6 months to fix all this crap that could've been done. if they would've waited longer fore more to be done or given us regular deathmatch as a download then i would've rated it better. Mr. Clancy we want a better installment for RAINBOW SIX VEGAS 3 this time.

SUB-PAR for the course

First off, a little background info so you know where i am coming from...

I AM:

1. an average joe
2. a casual xbox live gamer who spends less than 10-12 hours a week playing games.
3. a HUGE fan of the Rainbow Six series for the past 10 years and have played them all.

STORY MODE REVIEW

Pro: graphics have improved from the first one. not an incredible difference but noticeable.

Con: framerate is still low (I'm guessing like 30fps) and when you pan to the side to aim quickly it can become a hindrance.

Con: framerate drops during some parts of the game.

Pro: there are less menus to sift through.

Pro: you can create your own protagonist and play him/her offline and online in both story/t-hunt and multiplayer.

The PEC is integrated into the front page as it is the central base station of the vegas experience.

Pro: you get a xp bonus if you are a returning Elite which puts you at specialist rank with a few unlocks like flight helmet and ballistic mask.

Con: I did not get the achievement for skipping Private First Class rank.

Pro: the first level is cool, set in a snowy mountain setting. Why couldnt they have this kind of environment for a multiplayer map?

Pro: I'm liking the location settings much better in this version than vegas 1.

Pro: although still a "linear story scripting" experience, you are provided with multiple entry points, and a few options of how to take down a room. at least more so than vegas 1, and even more so than Black Arrow.

Con: the girl in the chopper has to spell it out for you though. You dont really need to think for yourself. She basically tells you all the options rather than having you figure it out with your team.

Example, there is one level you are in the rec center which is quite large. You need to go from area to area and clear each section. But you have a couple ways to do this. There is one part that you can go up to the roof and snipe through the skylight and have your team clear the bottom floors. Or you can enter from the 2nd floor, or the first floor. There are at least 4-5 different ways to take this section down. But the helicopter lady basically tells you outright what you should do.

Pro: they removed the on-screen radar in story mode and replaced it with "temporary thermal scan".

The way it works is you can trigger it when it comes online and it will scan the room for a few seconds, giving thermal signatures on the mini radar map. When it is all used up you have to wait some time before it comes online again.

Con: I actually find the thermal scan kind of a useless feature and i almost never use it.

Con: Incompetent teammates return with their running out in the open, getting shot and getting you killed trying to medic them all over again. Not much improvement in the player AI despite what Ubi claims. 80% of the time I leave them behind.

Con: enemy AI still has some problems such as standing out in the open while getting shot at, or sometimes they run towards you and stop right in front of you (if you dont shoot them) and just fire like a zombie rather than return fire defensively. I have yet to see enemies cover their movement as they advance to your position like advertised.

Pro: weapon attachment settings are saved and "remembered" each time you play.

Pro: in the first 3 chapters of the game so far, ive gotten healthy use out of my SR25SD rifle as enemies seem to spawn further out. Combined with large scale and open locales, makes for pretty good long range shooting.

TERRORIST HUNT REVIEW

Pro: its still fun to play for the most part with 4 friends messing around.

Con: same old same old... enemies still spawn out of thin air in front or behind you.

Con: really cheap AI that actually use the cover glitch against you.

Con: enemy Ai has not improved, as they still get stuck behind objects, run up to your face spraying P90 or magic Spas12 rather than cover their movements.

Con: still has a glitch where you "cant find last terrorist".

MULTIPLAYER ADVERSARIAL REVIEW

Pro: Team Leader mode is a good addition.

Con: They shouldnt have sacrificed VIP in its stead.

Con: I'm having serious connecivity issues that many others are experiencing. I can't host games most of the time because sometimes no one can see or join my server. Also can't join any one else's server even when invited. This alone would be a deal-breaker for me.

Con: framerate drops even in MP (different from internet lag). The graphics slow down to a crawl (mostly happens when too many grenades explode).

Con: freezing and lockups. I have experienced quite a bit of game freezing.

Con: dubious amount of bugs and glitches. Most of the Vegas 1 glitches have returned unfixed.

Pro: multiplayer graphics are much better than they were in vegas 1. Now the MP and SP graphics are are a little more similar.

Con: lag and host advantage are still issues to the same degree as vegas 1 maybe even worse.

Pro: shooting through objects is a MUCH welcome addition to this game.

Con: COVER GLITCH 100% intact. In case you do not know what the cover glitch is, it is when someone takes cover behind an object that conceals his entire body from his enemy and he is able to freely shoot through the cover without ever exposing his body. Even with bullet penetration, you still cannot shoot back at a cover glitcher when he is behind "safe cover".

Con: shouldering aka perspective glitch aka cornering glitch still 100% intact. Shouldering is when a player is shooting very close the the corner of a wall and only a fraction of his body is visible to his opponent, usually just an elbow. Different from Cover Glitch in that this is done in first person not while in cover mode.

Pro: aiming penalty when popping out of cover is a welcome addition.

Con: "dotting screen" or "vision menu cheating" is still effective despite the penalty.

Con: radar toggle is individual option, not host option. Makes NO SENSE whatsoever.

Con: still lacks BASIC server toggles for many aspects of the game.

Pro: they kept the running speed of players slow, and even with the addition of sprint, this game is not hyper paced like many other shooters.

Pro: custom faces load quicker

BOTTOM LINE:

The graphics fall below par for the course as COD4 really set the standards quite high. This game lacks originality. All the gameplay elements are not new innovations. They are gameplay elements taken from existing games and implemented into this one. There is nothing innovative about this game. The best thing Vegas 2 has going for it is the ability to create a custom character with custom face and play it both online and off. I personally do not care for ACES or ranking up, or unlocking weapons, so none of those "features" impress me.

The story mode is short and lacks depth. This game has absolutely no replayability since the story mode is so linear (there is only one way to play it) and the online is non-functional and bug-ridden.

This game is not realistic IN ANY WAY. If you are a fan of the older Rainbow games, you already know this game wont offer anything for you as it is nothing like the first 3 titles (in a bad way). But then again many returning Vegas fans are very disappointed with this title as well.

This game has serious issues that need to be addressed, mostly crippled in the online multiplayer department. It is virtually unplayable. It is apparent to me that this game was rushed out the door with minimal testing. I feel this is not worth the $60 price tag and I honestly regret buying it. I will be getting rid of my game and going back to COD4.

A shame from Ubisoft

Wow, it took me less than 18 h to beat this game... The AI is just bad, it reminds me of some of my first shooter 10-12 years ago!!! The control are clumsy, must be remapped, and the game crashed 4 time on my 360.... I am REALLY disapointed, RSV 1 was such a great game

It's Funny to read the comments from "user" on my review: Looks like Ubisoft PR is trying hard to save this game from the hall of shame.

Tons on glitches and freezing

I bought this game on Tuesday and had several times where tha game has frozen to where my controller wont even shut down. I have also had alot of glitches where my teamates will jitter back and forth and not respond to where I send them. I have to go back to them, lead them to a different location with me and hope they dont freeze again. Wasted about 10 minutes getting them unstuck in the parking garage. I will be returning this one tomorrow. I think they ran out of things to do with this one.

R6V2 vs. COD4 vs. R6V1 and all the other reviews

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 4 / 8

Experience: I started with Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon then Rainbow 6 then Rainbow Six Vegas for XBOX360. They were the games I played all year. (I did play Halo 1,2,& 3, Gears of War, FEAR, Half-Life but preferred R6)

COD4: Call of Duty 4 is the first game that took me away for the Rainbow 6 series. So,I was excited about R6V2, thinking how they were going to improve the previous game R6V and beat COD4! They didn't.

Why COD4 is better than R6V2:
As with EVERY review on here, I agree, COD4 beats R6V2 hands down. R6V2 felt like I put in the first R6V. After playing COD4, the R6V2 felt very slow. If you notice... anyone comparing COD4 to R6V2 prefers COD4. The people I personally know playing R6V2 are the one that never bought COD4.
I basically played single player and multiplayer for a couple of hours each and then put the game back, listed it online for sale, and put back in COD4. The entire time I felt "Why am I playing this game (R6V2) when I have a better one (COD4)?"

One reason to buy R6V2
Here is the one reason to buy R6V2. If you want to play co-op with a buddy or terroist hunt with 2-4 players. Everything else COD4 is a better experience.

COD4 -
1. Has a matching system so you play in a room right away.
2. Lets you continue to play in the same room.
3. Lets you bring friends with you to play matches.
4. Lets you set private matches and control diffrent aspects of the game.
5. Has different modes so you can play games like R6V2 search and destroy hardcore (no respawing and one shot kills) to Halo type games with lots of shots to kill, pickups and super jumps (old school mode). Normally it is a good blend of one to three shots for a kill.

I know I missed a lot, but my recomendation is COD4 and save the money till a better game comes out.

Very Disappointing, Especially If You Have COD4

This game is a huge letdown. The graphics, while good compared to most games, are not in the same league as COD4. The game, at least the online play, is not nearly as smooth as COD4, close combat is awkward, and the game is just lacking. The graphics lack the refinements, small movements and details that COD4 has. I'm prob going to play for a few more days and just sell the game. It's not nearly as fun as COD4, and the camping, cheapness, etc. that existed in the first Rainbow Six, continue on in this game.

big time letdown

after achieving basically every challenge in Call of Duty 4 (COD4), i was looking for something new in RB6V2. while i did find something new, it was not for the better and I came to realize just how great COD4 is.

in my opinion, here're some of RB6V2 weaknesses: 1) basically ineffective shot-from-hip shots...COD4 got it right with their "stead-aim" perk; 2) no melee attack...absolutely unacceptable in a FPS; 3) unimpressive graphics...this is year 2008 for goodness' sake; 4) cross-hairs disappear when player is moving...this just makes knowing the aim-point that much harder; 5) unrealistic grenade tosses...the grenade flies like cotton-candy for crying out loud!!; 6) smoke/flash grenades cartoonish...COD4 gets top marks for mimicking these effects; 7) undesirable upgrades...why the heck do i want to spend hours of my time just to get a different color undershirt that only gets covered up with my body armor?; 8) mandatory respawn time...news flash, i don't want to wait 10 sec watching teammates play the game! COD4 gets it right by allowing players to skip the respawn timeout; 9) kill-cam not standard...COD4 gets it right by always showing how a player gets killed while giving the player an option to skip the video if he desires; 10) low-degree of verisimilitude...COD4 is so realistic it could seriously be used as a trainer for infantry-men; 11) manual-intensive multiplayer...RB6V2 makes the same mistake as Gears of War by forcing the player to scroll through a laundry list of games with different hosts...in COD4 i could regularly jump into a game within 30 seconds; 12) cumbersome notification of kills...why the heck should i have to take my eyes of the center of the screen to read some small text that says I made a kill??

i could give more examples, but i don't have the time. if you're looking for the best FPS on the market, it ain't here.
