Metroid, the first game in one of Nintendo's biggest franchise, is getting the same kind of treatment given to MGS and Resident Evil on GameCube: take the story and basic gameplay of the original, update graphics, change the environments, and lots else, and bring it to the new system.

Even though I haven't beaten Fusion to this date (due to that horrible menace of the Nightmare) I plan to grab this one. Let's just hope the Super Nintendo game in the series, Super Metroid, is coming next :)

I'll take 1!

Whatever the reason, I can't beat the monster in the end of Fusion that ate my ship. I plan for this game to have monsters that your weapons DO affect. I'd love to be able to beat the game without any invinisble monsters.

Sinces Metroid Fusion was good, then Metroid Zero Mission is going to be a lot better. Hopefully you start out with the power suit, and get the VARIA suit, and the gravity suit.

Now, I'm a long time metroid fan. Samus Aran is the most beautiful, cunning, and well rounded person every born, and this game accentuates her skills and personality traits like never before. Though a quick win, the warm ending and overall theme make it a must have game. If you don't own it, you should crawl into a corner right now and die.

Sweet...

YEEEHA! This game RULES! I love how much Nintendo improved the GBA versions of the Metroid series. M:ZM is harder, longer, and just generally better.
But DON'T call this a port of the original Metroid, or I will come to your house and kick you in the :CENSORED:.
The difficulty (for hard mode at least) is rewarding and the enemies are better, and familiar. The stealth bit at the end is still cool (AND it's a twist!) and while Samus is no Sam Fisher, she can still be pretty sneaky. LIKE A NINJA! HOOHA!
Gameplay: perfect
Sound: almost perfect
graphics: more than perfect
everthing averaged together: perfect

BUY THIS GAME NOW!

Metroid Zero Mission? More like HERO MISSION

So after playing the advance copy that Nintendo sent me, I need to say, this Metroid game is great. The part with the laser beams where the guy shoots and then the aliens all jump back except for the one who gets fried, but then just appears as a burnt-up crisp that runs around; that's the kind of gaming I remember from back in the Intellivision days, where the original Metroid first made its' debut. It's a good thing Nintendo is licensing this from Konami, because they made a mess of the series after their first attempt at a 3-D version on the Genesis. Thank goodness Nintendo decided to take another good property (a 'la Gran Turismo) and turn it around from the train wreck its' original developers have wrought!

An Amazing Concept

First of all, this review was written BEFORE the game was released. I just want to make that clear. Because the reviews I've seen for this game didn't seem to serve much purpose, I felt it should be made clear what this actually IS, but since it's not out yet I'm going on official information. This is more a summary of the CONCEPT and POTENTIAL for the game.

It's been confirmed that this is taking the original Metroid NES game and revamping it with elements from othe Metroid games. Abilities and items come from all the games in the series. For example, you can hang like you can in Fusion, wall jump like you can in Super, duck like you can in the other 2D Metroid games, use the grappling beam, speed booster, etc. But that isn't all. Of course there'd have to be some area modification to incorporate all these additional items and make them useful, but Nintendo is going a step beyond that. They're adding entirely new areas as well as hugely expanding the pre-existing ones.

There are also cutscenes (though I'm not guessing FMVs [full-motion videos]) designed to enhance and reveal more of the storyline. Seeing as there wasn't any sort of communication between the player and the world in the first one (don't get me wrong, I love it, I love the whole Metroid series, i'm just stating what IS) this will undoubtedly (as stated on the Nintendo Zero Mission website) "bring Samus' story to life like never before". There's also apparently a big surprise at the end as well.

Overall, this game has the potential to be on par with Super Metroid (which, in my opinion, can't be beat). The idea behind it is a solid one (I admit to begging something like this would be made) which people will enjoy all the more by the enhancements. I, for one, will be in line the day before it comes out to make sure I get it on opening day.

Revival of a Classic

Metroid: Zero Mission is a remake of the original Metroid. But this isn't just any remake: It's packed with lots of extras and new gameplay elements to update it from the original. Updated graphics, story and extras. If you've played the original Metroid or LOVE the Metroid series you OWE it to yourself to pick this game up!

Nice updated graphics will enhance the gameplay and exploration of the game. Nice, sharp, crisp graphics that are to die for! Not only that but now the game includes Full Motion Videos to move the story along! This game truly takes advantage of the GBA's capabilities.

The sound has even been improved and you'll undoubtably love the new upgrade in sound. Better sound effects and the music is not so different from the original (though I loved the original).

The gameplay is more or less the same but this time you've got more help. The game now has the map in the upper right hand corner of the screen to guide you. Statues also help lead you to your next objective as well. Hallways are also changed. Also, Samus has a Power Grip and Space Jump ability, previously not in the original game.

The game also includes a whole new mission! After you defeat the Mother Brain there's actually more to follow. This will help to tie all the Metroid games (including Prime) together. Not to mention that as a bonus Nintendo threw in the original Metroid! So you can actually compare the two.

However, the game still has its setbacks. For one, its still rather short. Longer than Metroid Fusion but not by that much. Second, the new statues guiding you make it seem like the game is holding your hand too much. That and the fact that this game is much easier than the original (that can be good or bad). But don't let those things stop you from picking up this title. If you're a Metroid fan you owe it to yourself to pick this up right away!
