Namco Museum for the GBA is a really good retro game. Individuals 25 years and older will remember these games well. For those individuals who are younger than 25, Namco Museum provides an opportunity to play some of the classic videogames that started the whole video game frenzy. Namco Museum consists of 5 games. Ms. Pac-Man, Galaxian, Galaga, Dig Dug, and Pole Position. Ms. Pac-Man everyone knows about. Galaxian and Galaga are Space Invader type games, Dig Dug is a unique digging and destroying enemies game, and Pole Position is the classic arcade steering wheel racing game. All games are great fun for a quick pick up and play. The lack of a battery save feature for high scores (reasoning for 4 stars) is sort of a disappointment, but writing scores down is not that tedious of an ordeal. Overall, Namco Museum is a great port of the arcade classics that can be popped into the GBA for a quick 5 minute game between class, meetings, or a lunch break, and is a good addition to everyone's GBA library.

Pretty good

These are great renditions of the arcade classics though they aren't identical (i.e. they don't seem to be emulated). One concrete thing I noticed that is different than the original is that in Galaga, I think stage 10 is an exact duplicate of stage 1 in the arcade, but on this game it's just another harder level than the one before it. Pole Position is the most satisfying to play because it was designed with a horizontal monitor in the arcade so the entire screen on the GBA is used (with no scrolling). Dig Dug is the second best, because although it scrolls, the character's movements aren't so fast that the scrolling disorients you. Galaga and Galaxian are fun, but the screen are tiny because they had to squeeze a vertical arcade screen onto a horizontal display. Ms Pac Man is good, but it's a little hard to play with the scrolling, because you can't see where the ghosts are all the time. It's especially difficult when things get fast at the upper levels. You can play Ms. Pac Man without scrolling, but the screen is so small it's no fun that way. That's about all I can say about it. It was fun. I played it for a few weeks before pulling the cart out and putting it on the shelf.

Galaga good enough by itself

Galaga is enough by itself. I bought the game the day it came out.I couldn't believe that all my favorite arcade games were in the palm of my hand. All the games are awesome. There all exactly like the arcade versions. I know that most older people will like the game. Im only 13 and its one of my favorite games ever. The highlight of the game is GALAGA. GALAGA is by far the best game in the package. Just incase you didnt know the 5 games in the package are Galaga, Galaxian, DigDug, Ms.PacMan, and pole position. For you youngsters out there, take it advice from somebody your own age, buy Namco Museum.

Give it try

Well, I recently bought this GBA title, and I must say I was quite pleased. I don't know a whole lot about these old school games, but they serve their purpose well. Its a great couple of games to pop in for a few minutes just to satisfy your need to play. It's not a deep game, but its great to pick up and just fool around with.

I must admit, though, a few weeks after I got it, I started to get bored with it, and wanted to get rid of it...BUT I kept it and the next time I played, I tried some of the games I didn't normally play, and found new fun in it. SO the fact is that it is hard to get bored with this cart when there are four (actually five) games.

To elaborate further, the games included are the following...

Ms. Pac Man - This game is great to pop in and play for a few minutes, or try and see how far you can get.

Pole Position - Though it can't be compared to the racing games of today, it is still fun to race and see how well you can do every once in a while.

Dig Dug - This game is fun, but I can only take so much of it. When you first play, it seems to be the best game of the bunch.

Galaga - This is my favorite one. It is just a good fun space shooter. I even like it better than some of today's games.

Galaxian - This is essentially the same as Galaga, only not as involved, and their is not a whole lot to it.

I DO recommend this to ANYONE, despite a few drawbacks.

I bought this game because I wanted Galaga. It was my favorite game 20 years ago. The re-issue that came out a few years ago for Game Boy Color was very disappointing and lacking any challenge whatsoever on the advanced levels, leading me to wonder why the original Galaga was bypassed for a weak imitation. Therefore, I bought this muti-game cartridge and ---came away disappointed. The problem is that the size on the screen is tiny. It's hard to play. Multi-game cartridges are a great idea, but why couldn't the full screen size of the Game Boy be utilized?

Great Game

I think that most of the people that have been saying that this is a hard game, just have been used to the large screen. They need to think about what a cartrisge game can do. they aren't going to be perfect, and I have grown up with them unperfect. Don't look too hard to find a game that doesn't have any flaws. The game play is good knowing that the games were originally made a while back, and don't expect to see any high grafics, since they were made around the early 90's and older. If you want the feel of the old Atari, this is a perfect selection of games from the classic line of Atari. Good grafics no, but the same great games, yes.

NO Battery Backup for your high scores!!!

This game is worthless it contains no battery backup for your high scores. What the heck is the point of playing any of these games if it doesn't record your scores? Waste of time and money. .... DO NOT BUY. And be cautious about the release of Pac-Man Fever on Gameboy Advance, find out if it has a battery backup before you buy.

High Scores are KEY for these games

Why the creator of this game or Nintendo decided to save a few cents per unit on the production run to make the game 50% less playable is beyond me. The point of these old games was HIGH SCORE. There was no story, just the score and level. To NOT save the high scores for the games reduces the need to play these again, as there's no record of accomplishment or score to challenge. This was very disappointing for me, which is probably why I play Mario Bros. Classic on the Super Mario Bros. 2 Advance a lot more.

Get the console version- this one isn't as good.

I bought this GBA game(well, actually my grandma did) and I'm pretty sorry I chose this one. There are two things that I don't like about this cart. First, I love the challenge of beating my own high scores but you can't save your high scores. Second, there is no rapid fire in Galaga and Galaxian. If I hold down the button, it only fires once. You have to keep pressing the button to fire. This really slows the game down. It takes twice as long to defeat one wave of enemies as it does in Microsoft's Return of Arcade for the PC. Those games aren't as fun on the GBA. Aside from those two flaws, there's nothing else to critisize.

Give good consideration to these classics

This game compilation includes 5 arcade classics (Ms. Pac Man, Galaga, Galaxian, Pole Position, and Dig Dug) all on one cartridge, this cartridge also happens to be ...cheaper than most other games on the system. This game is perfect for older gamers who want to remember the good old days of arcade gaming and going for a high score and saving your initials into the arcade machine. For the younger gamers this is a a GREAT oppurtunity to play some classic games and to learn a little bit about the history of gaming. I must warn impatient gamers or those who NEED to have great graphics, these games are meant to be played for the stellar gameplay and not the visuals; Pole Position, for example, is pathetic (graphically) when compared to the likes of GT Advance. Only one other problems pops up and that is with Ms. Pac Man, due to the widescreen nature of the GBA screen it is neccesary to either play the game zoomed in so that the level scrolls (if this goes over your head it basically means the game is harder because you can't see the entire maze at once) or in a cropped and zoomed out mode where the playing field is tiny. I would have given this 4 1/2 stars if I could have. Please give these classics consideration.
