when video games were actually fun

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

"Galaga" and "Ms. Pac Man" are the reason to buy this game. They alone are worth it,but the rest are pretty boring. The only problem with all of the games is that the screen is quite hard to see for the most part (on Ms. Pac Man you can choose a scroll option which makes it a lot easier to see) and left me squinting the entire time. Galaga is still my favorite video game and clearly better than anything on the market today! If i wanted reality, i'd go outside!

Portable 80's Arcade Games -- Awesome

These games are great, the only downfall to this package is that it does not save your high scores or changed options. It's an exact replication of their arcade parent versions except for the score/high score is put to the side (makes it a little harder for me to line up for the challenging stages in Galgaga). It takes a little time to to get used to the small screen, but if you loved any of these games, you won't be disappointed. I would of have given this four and half stars because it doesn't save your high scores, but I guess you can't get everything you wish for, and this is one of my most replayed GBA games.

It delivers what it promises

Namco Museum sets out to allow you to play several classic video games on your GBA, and that is exactly what it does. The graphics and sounds are authentic, though the graphics are by necessity a bit small. The controls are simple and straight-forward, and for the most part, function smoothly. My only complaint with the way the games are presented here is that you cannot save your high scores. But that's a minor point.
So to decide if you need this game, just look at what's included, and see how fondly you remember them. Dig Dug was my favorite of the lot, and the reason I bought it. It's just as I remembered it, here, but doesn't seem as much fun as it used to be. Still a nice diversion. Ms. Pac-Man offers two choices of game play, either full-screen or a larger, scrolling screen. Perhaps not as addicting to today's jaded gamer as it was in its heyday, but still fun. I was never that into Galaga, but I'd have to say its the funnest game of the lot. Galaxian is okay, but pales in comparison to Galaga. And last and most certainly least, Pole Position (which I remeber being fond of when it first came out) has clumsy controls and is incredibly tedious. But you can make your own call on the games; they're here, just as you remember them, at a reasonable price.

Best Handheld Arcade Compilation Ever

A compilation of 5 old-school arcade games including: Ms.Pac-Man, Galaga, Galaxian, Pole Position, and Dig Dug. The best part is that all five games look and play just as good, if not, better than they originally did in the arcades, pretty impressive for a handheld sytem, though it would have meant a lot more if the high scores saved. - Kit Oxton

A history lesson, not a game

Museum Games are more of a lesson in classic gaming than an experience.

Namco's Gameboy Advance release of the Namco Museum follow the same path the Williams has taken in their several Greatest Hits releases. This current installment of the Namco museum includes a roster of five games. These games are: Ms. Pac-Man (1980), Galaxian (1979), Galaga (1981), Dig Dug (1982), and Pole Position (1982). These games have been fully restored on a single GBA Cart for your portable convenience. Granted it is nice to have five different games on one cartridge, but I would hardly call this a worth while title.

I can not site any performance issues, nor can I compare the Namco Museum to any of the current games out there. My reasoning behind this is because Namco fully restored Atari classics and packaged them for a modern system. Though I personally am not keen on this idea, I will admit, it is nice to remember the simple times. Each game is configured to interface with the D-Pad and the face buttons, whereas the shoulder buttons have no function in this package, leaving the controls as simple as the games themselves.

To my disappointment, both Galaxian and Galaga are virtually the same game. This means that you are paying for four games, when they advertise five. The slight difference between Galasxian and Galaga is the entrance of the enemies. In Galaga, enemies fly into view and bombard you as they enter. In Galaxian, the enemies are just lined up at the top of the screen, waiting for you to shoot them. All NAMCO needs to do at this point is throw in Space Invaders and advertise six games, but you will still only have four unique games.

The bottom line is, the NAMCO Museum is more of a history lesson than a worth while game. I rated this a 2 stars because Ms. Pac-Man and Dig Dug are still fun titles, but the other three just don't have a lasting replay value. I would pass this title up, unless it was on the discount rack for less than five dollars.

These games take me back to my days in the arcade. I rember spending many quarters playing these games. All of these games are great on GBA. The detail in Ms Pac-Man using scrolling mode is wonderful.

I am loving these old school games!

I thought this game would be cool........But, I was definately WRONG! This game is tiresome,boring....and does't requirre that you use your mind or skill ablity. Even my 7 year old sister, puts this game down. I found it was a very good waste of my hard-earned allowance money.

Faithful renditions, nothing new

These games are as close to the original as you could possibly expect on a game boy. However that could also be their down fall. What was worth a quarter a play and was state of the art in the 80's doesn't seem to do much for me anymore.

Expecting that my 4 year old would find these games easier has turned out to be seriously wrong, as she still prefers Zelda...

Awsome
