This is a great game. Some people think that because it was just like that nintendo game, it should be dubbed "horrible". These people were expecting a new and exciting game. But if they had actually looked at the box, done some research, or looked at the reviews on amazon, they would have found that it is very easy to see what the components of the game are. I like the old nintendo game of SMB2(and that great SMB1) and was excited to find that it had come out on game boy advance.

The game boy advance promotes colors, maybe not as well as a TV, but better than most of the other portable gaming systems. The game seems very real, along with the same old game feel, unlike the 3d feel of Iridion or Tony Hawk 2. The nemesis in Birdo is back again, but this time it will be remebered by more people, the younger people of this generation. The other bosses and Wart himself will also be memorable, providing the kids of our world with more enemies for fantasies.

Even if this game is a complete copy, there are several improvements. There are bigger items and the speech is great. There are others, but not many. I think this game would be one of the first games a person should buy.

Of Course You allways need a Mario. This was the first game i got i played it at the store before i had mg GBA and i Was like wow. I bought it and that night i was about 25 percent done with the superMario part. In this Mario there is the regular game and a arcade mode where you get coins and kill stuff not much fun so this is all i am going to talk about it. Super Mario Advance is fun and it is nice to chosse between the four charaters Lugie Peach Toad And the classic Mario. The bosses at the end of each level are very easy to beat i barly ever die and have to start over. this game would be great for you if you play it a little each day and its not the only game have so you don't log millions of hours on it. But if you're a die hard gamer like me and play for hours you will have it beat in days. All in all its a great game while it last.

SOUNDS EFFECTS 3.0 What do expect from a mario all he does is picks up stuff jumps a yells when he dies

MUSIC 2.7 Differant music for differant parts of the level compared to other games for the Gba there O K

GRAPHICS 4.0 Im impressed for a mario nice back drops very colorful

CONTROLS 2.0 I being very generous but i gues what can Mario donjust jumpand pick stuff up but it dissapointed me this game didnt use the R and Z buttons well it does use the R button to change screen shots which is use less and i never use it.

RE PLAY 4.0 it is fun to play the second time and you can beat the bosses without die ing

All In All you Probally think i hated Mario but i thought it was fun and its probally wourth (the money)and i can't tell you any thing about the Multi player because i havn't done it YET but it Should make it even funner Mario deserves a 3.85 And it gets the medal for kicking all other Mario's in the butt

Fun game

This game has vivid colors, action, and great controls. It really shows off the GBA graphics capablilty. I beat the game after playing it for 18 hours (over the course of a 2 weeks). You can play as Mario,Luigi,Princess Toadstool or Toad. Each has different abilities, usually jump height and hover being the main ones. This isn't a remake of earlier Gameboy Mario Games, its a beefed up version of the NES release.

So Much Fun

This game is one of the most entertaining games I've ever played. It is just like the old version for the SNES, but better. If you get stuck, it might be worth buying a guide. It gets really fun at the Yoshi's Challenge--whoops! I shouldn't have told you that!

hey everyone! i believe everybody here is making a mistake by saying that SMA is/isn't like SNES' Super Mario Bros 2. It wasn't SNES' actually, it was NES'. SNES had once a game called Super Mario All Star, which was the collection of 3 Mario NES titles plus the lost worlds of Super Mario (an extra one). So, actually, Super Mario Bros. 2 was never realeased to SNES. I hope this helped! :)

this is the funnest game on GBA!!!...

i have to say this game was very , very frustrating , though i 'm not through with the game yet, it was pretty cool. The great graphics, the ways of how they talk, it was very cute. well if you do beat the game , there is a bonus level that you can gain access to anytime , it's called the yoshi challenge. I'm stuck on that right now and it's way too hard. but it's recommended to people with patience, and i don't recommended for the replay values, but it's worth playing before you get tired of it.

Retro gaming on the small screen

When I was in Middle School, I use to spend hours playing my NES, and one of those favorites was Super Mario Bros. 2. I picked up a GBA to pass the time on the commuter train to work. I didn't know what games were good when I walked into Circuit City, so I just grabbed SMA. The game brought back memories. Although I spent countless hours after school with friends trying to beat the game -- and I ultimately succeeded -- I still enjoy this re-release. The game play has not changed nor has the music, but the graphics and sfx are dramatically improved. The game remains a challenge because Nintendo did not tone down the difficulty, but Nintendo added a save game feature and a restart option that I don't remember in the NES version. SMA will keep you entertained or your kid quiet for that long car ride to grandma.

Significantly worse on the GBA

This game is a big disappointment from Nintendo. First off, the original game wasn't all that great to begin with due to its tiny worlds, nonexistant powerups, and simple boss characters. However, what makes this game a real loser is that it's worse than the the SNES remake on the Super Mario All-Stars game and even the original NES game!

The game does have some advantages over previous versions:
1) The graphics are taken from Super Mario All-Stars and therefore are an improvement over the original.
2) The mindnumbingly boring slot machine scene after each tiny world have been made more tolerable since you can now bet a group of coins instead of making individual bets for each and every coin you have.
3) Like All-Stars, you can pick a different character after each tiny level instead of waiting until an entire world was cleared.

What makes this game worse than All-Stars?
1) The horrible scrolling engine! SMB2 had a unique scrolling style on vertical levels which remains, but the horizontal levels are torture too. You can literally tap your character one direction or the other and the entire screen will scroll so that your character is near either the left or right edge. The scrolling engine alone makes this game unplayable. What is it with Nintendo and its policy of using lousy camera work for its Mario games? I thought that was just for their 3D Mario games.

2) The annoying vocal work from the 3D games has been added here to make the experience as unpleasant as possible. Do we really need to hear "Lucky" after collecting a cherry? Battle scenes with Birdo have some sort of annoying speech that I haven't made out quite yet, and it freezes the action while the dialog is being spoken.

3) Weird tacked-on stuff: the game has a lot of little new things that just feel totally out of place. Anyone familiar with the real version of the game is familiar with the inital drop that happens when you start world 1-1. The new version is totally different and this new little vertical area is littered with everything that will annoy you about this game.

My recommendation? DO NOT BUY.

Nintendo needs to know that terrible ports like this are totally unacceptable! I recommend waiting for the Nintendo Revolution (aka the poorly named "Wii") and obtain the NES original or the superior SNES Super Mario All-Stars version on the virtual console instead.
