The hardest Harvest Moon Game I've ever played!

This game is a little fun but it isn't like the other Harvest Moon games. I rented this game for 5 days, and I thought it would be fun the first time a played it, but I was so wrong. First of all, there is the longest movie that tells you the story of the princess and about the snotty person named Jamie. By the way, if you are a boy, Jamie is a girl. If you are a girl, Jamie is a boy, that means you can marry him/her. My first day was OK. You don't have a barn or anything! You have to buy the barns, and then buy the animals! It's to hard for me. If you like easy games, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! If you like really, really, really hard games, you should probably buy this game.

This harvest moon fan was sorry she bought it.

Okay, if you've played lots of other harvest moon games before...maybe you should skip buying this one, and wait for the newest installment for DS coming out in June.

The controlls are confusing to figure out, and the beginning story and music you will hear during the games are VERY cheesy. Like, 'I couldn't stand it and had to turn it off' cheesy.

I liked Wonderful Life for Gamecube much better. Magical Melody tries to be kinda like Friends of Mineral Town, which I've already played, so I was looking for new imporvements in the game! The improvements weren't enough to maintain my interest in this one. Yah, you earn music notes, but you earn a music note just for FALLING DOWN. Like I said, I was unimpressed.

ADDICTING.............BUT HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even though all the other Harvest Moon games are great, this one, however, is not good at all. It's addicting,I'll admitt that, but the graphics are horrible and very hard to accomplish. I've had this game for about three days, and i'm not even a quarter of the way through with it. True, it has a good story line to it, but not my first choice. If I was you, I'd stick with the first ones.

a little disappointed

i have been wanting this game for a long time and have read a lot of reviews on how great it is, so i finally bought it. yet once i started playing, i'll admit, i was a little disappointed! it is harder to figure out than i was expecting, i'm no gamer, but still, i thought it would be pretty easy. so i get frustrated more often than i have fun with the game. hopefully this will change if i ever get the hang of it!

okay

I just start playing it. It's alittle more complicated than the other Harvest moons. One thing I dont like: At first you can store more than 5 things in your rucksack. You dont have the option to move the camera angle around to see where your going. You will get lost quick. You see when you play it. I will continue to play... Also you have a tired meter and you can revive youself by eating or sleeping. If you do too much and food is not around you will faint and end up in the docs offices. It;s fun once you know what your doing.

Hard!!!

When I bought the Harvest moon magical melody I was really excited. But after playing it for about 10 min. I got frustraited and traded it in. For this game was a huge let down compared to Wonderful Life harvest moon. For the controls were harder and I kept getting lost.

Long-time HM fan

Despite this game being hailed as the greatest in the series to date, Magical Melody has its share of problems.

But first, the pros:
- addictive (if you can bear not leaving the house for a few weeks, then this game offers everything you need)
- goal-driven (much better in this area than previous HM titles, you will find yourself constantly saving up for the next house upgrade, furniture installment, musical note, or friendly barn animal)
- festivals (there's more of them, but... more on that later)
- mini-games (at last, we can take a more interactive part in races!)
- fun (it just plain is)

cons:
- framerate?? (how can a game this graphically simple have lagging issues? if GC titles like RE4 and PoP can pull off their stunning visuals without much choppiness, than MM should be capable of the same)
- lack of cutscenes (I really missed heart events, and the random, cute but very weird scenes between villagers present in almost every other HM title)
- controls (certainly not as bad as some, picking up things can be more trouble than its worth, and the camera angles can be difficult, despite the nice transparency of objects in the foreground)
- festivals (some are done really well, like the horse races when you can actually race, but most feel like obligatory breaks from your average day that get old about the second time through. I would have liked to have seen a mini game for nearly every festival, and I certainly miss dancing)

other thoughts:
I would have liked to have seen more variation in conversations with townspeople instead of the cheap, 'I'll keep saying the same things over and over again until you finally bribe me with expensive gifts' ploy. I was hoping for a ton of cutscenes, even random and stupid ones. They would have broken up the monotony. The framerate issues near Jamie and Blue Sky Ranch are pretty much not cool at all.

In the end, this is a fun game and I will reccomend it, but I guess I see a lot more to improve upon before this game is declared best in the series... in my opinion that accolade still rests with the 64 verison (or maybe its spinoff on the playstation).

This game is horrible. The graphics are not at all as realistic as the wonderful life games. The characters are ugly, and although it sounds like so much fun, its a bore. My sister and I both agreed that its stupid. My sister CRYS when she looks at the character because she has pigtails and she claims she looks like a "five year old". DO NOT waste your money, if you do, I'm sure you'll be posting a review with the same message as mine.

Great game....but could use some changes

First off, i am a Harvest moon fan and always have been. I have played the games back to 64, and i have to say this was a pretty good game compared to AWl.

You have many more people to meet, and you now actually have to work and do things to make them stay in town. Plue you can get a note for getting the people to move in! they really try to make this game worth all the hard work.

Animals, they could use some more work. I am happy you can have a barn and chicken coop in any area you want, but the fact that quality of produce is random makes it worse. I work hard to get good produce, and when my 9 heart sheep gives me dull wool for 5 sheerings straight, it makes me angry. I also don't like that you need a fence, and to plant grass every year. It gets rather boring, and to build a fence takes a long time. _tip: use stones for your fence-

Festivals are not all that great, you cannot do anything at them except talk to people. if they are making a festival, make one where you can do more then talk to everyone once and leave. Add mini games or something to make it worth it. Some of them, yes you need to go to them to get certin peopel, but the others are rather pointless.

The grapics and music are okay. they do fit in with each other and carry on the harvest moon tradition. i rather like them myself. But i do think you should have more of a choice with the music, and not the same old thing.

all in all, a rather good game. worth buying and playing.

Almost there...

My first Harvest Moon experience was Back To Nature. I would suggest that game to anyone. This should not be your first HM game, but it should join your collection once you've been broken in.
The characters are very impressive, they change what they say to you in accordance to how well they know you, and with the weather. That is somthing that HM:AWL lacked. I do miss the different colored cows, they should also add different breeds of horses and chickens. I have some chickens, and none of them look like that. Maybe a new pet could be a polish rooster! Look it up, they're cute.
This is a game where you need to take your time. If you want to finish it in a week, look somwhere else. Don't marry too early, check out all your options. I married Kurt in the spring of year 2, and I got Joe coming to my house that summer to say he "likes" me. Talk about akward...
Purchasing land is, interesting. It's clever, and unique, but sort of a hassle. Right now I have my house and chickens on one side of town, whith my barn and pasture on the other, and my crops on a third. And I own all the land you can! ***Tip*** if your house and your crops are on different lots, put your henhouse with your crops so you have a shipping bin handy.
My favorite part of this game is the history. They meld aspects of all the old games into this new one, there are characters from every game, exept maybe the gameboy and gameboy color games. They brought back the cake (Thanksgiving) festival which was in the first HM for SNES (also a spectacular game), but this time everyone can give cakes to anyone they are friends with, not just to their fathers. Also, Ellen was Hank's daughter in SNES, and they kept that here.
Exepting the graphics, this is an exellent and addicting game. I agree that next time there should be more cutscenes and more realistic animals and people. Also, hiring the harvest sprites was nice(BTN, FOMT), but you can't do that here.
You should really get this game!
