A Wonderful Improvement

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 109 / 120
Date: March 31, 2006
Author: Amazon User

If you have played Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, you'll find that Harvest Moon: Magical Melody is immensely better. While the graphics may not be "realistic," the "cutesy" graphics are a part of Harvest Moon's legacy, and fit the mood of the game. There is plenty to do in the game to keep you from getting bored. You can farm, fish, mine for jewels and other things, go to a variety of festivals, become friends with other villagers, and much more! You now have a rival, which for all you competitive people like myself, will give you just another reason to keep playing. The layout of the town and controls have a slightly different feel than previous Harvest Moon games. At first it might seem like the town is too big or the controls are a bit tricky, but it's easy to quickly figure out where everything is in the town and the controls really aren't that complicated. Overall, HM: Magical Melody makes up for a lot that was missing in HM: A Wonderful Life, and offers great things new and old to the Harvest Moon series.

Harvest Moon: Magical Game

This game is the next big Harvest Moon game. Its new features and its pros are:
You can now play as a boy or a girl in one game disc. It has been annoying for Harvest Moon fans to have to buy one boy's version and one girl's version.
Appropriate for all ages. It is a wonderful game for families to share.
Teaches life skills. It teaches responsibility through spending you money wisely and other things.
An enhancement of marriage choices. Now a whopping 10 with one extra secret choice.
It has a nice storyline.
It stays fairly true to the series.
You do not have to be a long time Harvest Moon fan to understand this game.
You can do multiple things in one day. To name a few I'll mention fish, plant crops, go mining, and socialize with other villagers.
You now have a rival to compete against for your farming accomplishments and other categories.
The pause screen keeps track of all your fellow villagers affections for you.
Festivals where you can just have fun.
Multiple pieces of land that you can buy. You can have multiple barns and chicken coops.

Now for the very few cons:
Some might think the graphics to be cutesy.
It gets tiring to hear the villagers say the same thing over and over, only to change when you raise their heart level for you or at festivals.
There might be a few more but at the moment I can't think of any.
In closing, this game is fun for all ages. But if you only like fighting games, this game is not for you.

The best Harvest Moon yet

Hi, I'm 16 years old, and I have recently purchased Harvest Moon: Magical Melody. I am not dissapointed! The graphics are cute and fun, and all the characters have their own voice. Ray sounds a lot like Tarzan, it's so amusing. There is A LOT of stuff to buy, so money here is very important. Stamina plays a great role in this game, so it is important to upgrade your tools so as not to tire out easily. You can play as a boy or a girl in this game, and for each gender there are 11 possible people whom you can marry. If you marry Jamie, however, the game will end, and go back to the last point you saved. Jamie is your rival, and makes the game 10 times more interesting. Mining has been improved, and now there are mini games to play. Also, the point of the whole game is to collect musical notes to revive the harvest goddess. These notes are fun to collect. I play as the girl, and every time a notw is recieved she says "lucky!". It's just so cute! The animals are adorable, fishing is fun...Just everything has been improved in this game. There is lag sometimes, but it's never a problem. And yes, there is a lack of cutscenes, but come on. If they made this game perfect, no one would want to buy the next harvest moon. Overall, you will not be dissapointed with this game.

Hard, but fun

When I rented this game, I knew it would be fun, and it was, but, it was really hard. It is definitly the hardest Harvest Moon game and probably the funnest once you get to understand it. That's the tricky part, getting used to the game.

PROS

1. It's fun
2. You can get married
3. You do have a kid
4. The graphics are cool
5. The town is bigger and better than other Harvest Moon games
6. All of your animals can reproduce
7. There are contests and festivles
8. If you are lucky, you get a kiss from your beloved in the winter

CONS
1. Really hard
2. Your character walks really slow
3. Long cut-scene at the beginning
4. Takes a while to get used to
5. Confusing
6. Items are a lot more expensive
7. You have to have 8 to 10 hearts to marry someone

I just listed some, but if you like to be challanged, buy this game, if you like easy games, you might not like this game.

Magical Melody Rocks!

I was with my friend when she bought this game. I thought it looked dumb but she insisted it looked good. So we brought it home and we used her gamecube to play. At first I hated the dramatic Harvest Goddess, but after it was over it got really fun! You start out with a dog who needs a home and you can name it anything you want. We named our dog Buttercup, then we found out it was a boy. The Festivals are kind of boring after you go through them for a couple of years.
On our 2nd Year we got one Good chicken egg ~Tip~ If you buy a coop and Chicken egg put the egg in the encubator and you get a baby Chicken. On our third year we Married Ray. One month later we found out we were pregnant. Two mothes later was had a baby. ~Warning~ They do not say if it is a Boy or Girl!
I think this was one of the best games I've ever played. My friend, Emily, had AWL and she let me play. It was slow and the people around her ALWAYS said the same thing. After I played MM I bought my own Gamecube and MM myself. I'm in year three and I have 2 cows, 1 sheep, 1 horse, and 5 chickens. The other game where I was married to ay We have 4 horses, 2 cows, and 2 sheep. If you read this, BUY MAGICAL MELODY! You won't be upset.

P.S. If you hate little cartoons, this is not the game for you.

The Best HM GAME!!!

I've had over 4 games of HM and I love all of them! But this is a totally new version to it, more people to marry, girl or boy, and very cute graphics! It's sooo chibi!! You now get to build your life by choosing which location you want to live in, your birthday season(not the date sadly) and gender. You can get a pig if you buy a barn, but you first get a puppy! It's a very good game if you like RPG stuff. And it's not disgusting to get married, nothing really bad happens, anyways I've fallen in love with the game and today I played for 3 HOURS! My brother said to get off but you can't, it's just too fun! So buy the game, you even get a child. But you'll have to play for yourself! Take my word for it! (NOTE:you gotta buy a lot of stuff in the game a challenge) Also, you get a rival that is the opposite sex of you. You can marry your rival, Jamie, but the game will end. The point of the game is to save the Harvest Goddess from being stone, to save her you must get notes, you get notes for doing a special thing, attending festivals is one way, every time you get another 5 notes go to the spring(harvest lake) to get an instrument, when you create a symphony, you free her! But the game doesnt' end, get married, when you have at least 8 hearts from wooing that special someone, you have to get the level 3 house and big bed, then the mayor will tell you to climb a cliff and get the feather to propose(i know a feather is weird but...)so do it and the next day you get married. so buy this game right now! you'll have loads of fun! getting to be a farmer is a blast! you just gotta plant, raise livestock, and get married to have fun!

This is a really great game!

Hi, my sister got this for her 9th birthday and we LOVE it! If your a boy you can chose one of the 11 girls to be your wife. (Including meany Jamie!) And if your a girl you can chose one of the 10 boys to be your husband. (I picked Kirt!) And then later in the game you get a baby! There's a new farm member to, A pig! And you can keep him in your house :) The game play is really good and the grafics are great! It's a little more cartoony than Harvest moon a wonderfull life but I kinda like it that way! When the game starts there's not much people in the town and it's hard to find your way around but as the game progresses much more people move in and you can find your way around easily. Theres also a lot more festivals in the game to. And mini games. And the town is pretty big. Overall this game is great and you should get it!

A Very Good Game

I started out by renting this game from Blockbuster to take on a two week trip to Oklahoma. I ended up falling in love with it and buying it. If you are thinking about buying it and you liked Animal Crossing, then deffinatly buy this game. It is much, much better than Animal Crossing. You start out as a boy or girl,(your choice)looking for a new life. You then stumble upon quaint Flower Bud Village. The mayor asks you if you want to live on the beach, riverside, or next to town square. I personally recomend living near town, planting your crops by the river, and putting your animals by the beach. This layout has made everything more convenient for me. Then, on the first night, you have a dream. There is this girl with wings that turns to stone. She was talking about how people forgot to do things. Then, this one Jamie person shows up,(it's a boy if you're a girl and a girl if you're a boy) and said how he/she could save the girl. Then you wake up. You walk outside the door, and then you hear a knocking. It is the little people that you see in your dream. (Sorry if this review is confusing!) They were the ones that watched the girl turn to stone. They are surprised that you can see them. They take you to the spring you saw in your dream. They tell you to collect notes to save the girl/harvest goddess, give you a pedometer, and that for every 5 notes that you collect, you create an instrument. Jamie then comes in. He/She gets mad at you because he/she was jealous because you can see the sprites, too. Collecting the notes suddenly becomes a compitition. As soon as you take your first step, you suddenly get a note. You say "lucky!", spin around, and put a note above your head. It is your first-step note. The game really takes off from there. Tip: Make sure that you keep your pedometer with you for a while, and once you get the "thousandth step note" put it away for good. It becomes of no real use to you. But you have many people to marry, no matter if you are a boy or girl. I married Alex in the first game that I played,(I have multiple games, for I have ADD when it comes to playing video games) and I am now trying to marry Joe. Here are some items to get people if you want to marry them:
Joe: Quality fish
Ray: Quality fish
Alex: Herbs and Cureall fish
Michael: Minerals and Ores
Kurt: Rare Ores (although I couldn't understand why you would marry him)
Blue: Produce (crops, eggs, ect.)
Carl: Home-made food
I know there are more guys that you can marry, and I'm sorry if I'm not exactly correct with these, but these are the only people who I can think of that you would want to marry. And you are entitled to your own opinion about they guys. Just study their habits, personalities, and give them gifts until you find that perfect one. I have no clue what to do for any of the girls because I have only played as a girl. But once you have at least 8 hearts from somebody, a level 3 house, and a big bed, the mayor shows up at your house a couple days after the upgrades. He said that you have to climb up a cliff to prove your devotion, and then get a feather. He cheers for you once you get it. When you propose, (make sure it's not Jamie, or the game will end!:( ) they will say yes, and the next day you get married. (Alex got kind of embarassed when I proposed to him!) The wedding is relatively short, and the next day, your lucky husband/wife asks you what you want to be called. That's about as far as I've gotten, and I'm really sorry about how long this review is. But if your parents are iffy about it, show them this review. Don't worry, there is no type of adultry on this game or anything bad. No smoking, drinking, or violence. And if you have stuck with me until now, (thank you!) Then buy this game! It is worth your money if you don't mind cutsey characters and no violence. I think that it is amazing!

This game isnt any ordinary Harvest Moon game it lets you do what you want and lets you act like who you really are. This game is full of plenty of things to do. In this Harvest Moon title theres no way you'll be limited to the same old raise a farm and do your daliy crop raising activitys. In this wonderful new title called Harvest Moon: Magical Meldody, you can be who you feel like, mabey a social butterfly or a hard working cowboy you chose. During the game you can chose three differnt plots of land having on mind that later on you can buy more land if needed. Once settled you can pick being a boy or girl. In the game there is a story plot that tells about how the harvest goddess was turned to stone and with your help by finding the missing musical notes she will turn back into her regular form. If your starting to wonder if thats it and then the games over you are wrong very wrong. Helping the harvest goddess only something to do in your spare time, because when your not working your socializing and when your not talking with friends your findng food to eat and doing all the other great things that us fans have come to love about Harvest Moon. In conclusion if your looking for a game with farming, socializing, and just having a plain out good time then Harvest Moon: Magical Melody is your game, have fun!

This game is off the chart. I spend hours playing it, and believe it or not, it was my first Harvest Moon Game. I'm Married to Ray and my child's name is Laura. Whe I got a baby I didn't know if it was a boy or girl. I have 3 horses, 3 sheep and 1 cow. The graphics of the game kind of look more like Cartoons than people. When the people talk to you what they say changes with the weather and how much they like you. When you ship stuff you can get *Music Notes* to free the Harvest Goddess from stone. After you get 50 notes you can go to Harvest Goddess Springs to get free health. When you leave you can do anything again. You have to clear your land to own a barn and animals. All of the animals look the same as adults except for the sheep, who can be shaved. When your horse has 2 Hearts it can be ridden and trained to run in the Spring or Fall Horse races.
The animation of the game is VERY good when it changes with the seasons. All of the people look diffrent and have many personalities. If you buy this game you will be Entertained for Hours, so it is not a waste of money!
