Old skool fun, totally awesome!

I should start off by saying that I .... have been playing Mega Man games since they first came out in the USA. But over the years I kind of skipped over the X series, and the Battle Network series.

For a while I had planned on getting this title, but really had to wrestle over my decision for a week or so. ...

Let me say, I shouldn't have worried -- THIS GAME RULES! More fun than most other games these days. The graphics are gorgeous 2.5d -- you are limited to moving in 2 dimensions, but the graphics are pretty much 3d (as well as cel-shaded -- but the mix really works well). A lot like the style of Super Smash Brothers Melee. Lots of really nice lighting effects, backgrounds, etc.

But what this game is really about is the action! It's not really too tough, but it's still challenging. Not mind-numbingly impossible by any means, but not a total cynch, either. It's the kind of game that sucks you in, and because you are having so much fun you don't notice how much time is passing. This is a good thing! Yes, you may have to go through levels a number of times to get them right -- who cares? That's what it's all about!

At first I found the chip system a little bit confusing, but now that I understand it, I really like it a lot -- tons of special weapons and flexibility in your approach to taking on the bad guys. The control scheme is very easy to learn, so you will be able to jump right in and start blasting viruses and navis gone wild.

GET THIS GAME -- don't question your decision, just get it, and you will be happy. Activates that little dopamine generator in your brain that not many games these days manage. Thank you, Capcom! And might I add, what a very reasonable price for a brand new title...Here, here!

Cool but with a few flaws

awesome graphics but teeth clenchingly hard, it takes forever to beat the first level, the battlechip system is just not made for side-scrollers! the insane level of difficulty makes it a challenge for experts even! but it's still fun, I recommend renting it, (Ya gotta be a fan of Megaman or you'll hate it!)

Not As Difficult As Everyone Says

Before I begin this review, I would like to state that anyone who says that this game is too hard, did not take the time to play past the first two boss fights. If they did, then they would realize that the game actually gets easier as you play it and get more power ups and battle chips. With that said, this game is very good. It takes place in-between the first and second Battle Network games. It continues right where the first game left off, when Mega Man had just defeated the Life Virus and saved the Internet. Months later, a new threat, called the Zero Virus has invaded the net and Lan and Mega Man have to stop it and make the net safe once again. Gameplay wise, this plays less like the Battle Network games and more like the classic Mega Man's. It's done in the old side-scrolling style like the previous installments, but also includes some features from Battle Network. You keep twenty battle chips in your chip folder and can use up to five at a time. These include swords, bombs, etc. You also collect power ups for your buster and subchips that do things like heal your character and unlock certain cubes in which you collect items from. You've probably heard that this game is incredibly difficult because of the first boss, Fireman. This is not true as long as you know what to do. For example, Fireman will use an attack where he uses a flamethrower that's a little hard to dodge. What you have to do is simply slide under this and use a strong battle chip like aquasword against him. The game progressively gets easier as you play it instead of harder, due to the power ups you collect later on. Your character is pretty weak without these, but if you take the time, Mega will eventually be stronger, able to shoot faster, and have the ability to charge shot just like the classic Mega Man's. Overall, Fans of the classic Mega Man games or the Battle Network games should at give this game a look. I give it a 4 out of 5 because I thought the game could have been a little longer, but otherwise, it definately qualifies for at least a rental. Check it out.

Mega Man Battle Network goes 2D...

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 8 / 15

I remember playing my first Mega Man game. The action was so different from the other games that I played at the time. I am a young gamer, so I didn't play the original Mega Man games, but I did get to
play the X series games. I enjoyed the series so much! I instantly
became a Mega Man fan. I was really enjoyed at the thought of
an RPG type Mega Man game, that I bought both of the Battle
Network games. I enjoyed those, too. I was very excited when I
heard that Battle Network was coming back to the original 2D play
of the old Mega Man games. But my excitment was cut short when
I first played the game.

Story 7/10- The story takes place in 200X. The world is run by
computers. People use Net Navis for electronic errands, and for
virus busting. It is a month after Lan, a citizen of ACDC town, and
MegaMan.exe, Lan's Net Navi foiled the plans of a virus spreading mafia bent ontaking over the world through setting virus loose. Everything ispeaceful until a virus, called the Zero Virus(Zero! A virus! Zero totally kicks Mega Man X's butt in the X series!). The virus setsprograms on a rampage! And its up to Lan and his virus busting pal MegaMan.exe to save the day. Kinda confusing.

Graphics 9/10- The graphics in the game are very good looking,
especially for a 2D game. Mega Man moves very fluidly, and the game never slows down. Even the enemies are highly detailed. The
scenes are especially great looking. The background is also
detailed. On one accasion, the net is on fire. The flames looked so
good. Overall, very good graphics.

Gameplay 4/10- This is where Transmission really fails. In the game,
you start out in Lan's room. You don't control Lan though. You get to
watch him pace and do nothing. Then how do you Jack in to the internet
to fight viruses? You simply go to the menu, go to map, and choose
where you want to jack in from. This is a real disapointment for Battle Network fans, where you controlled Lan until you jacked in to the
net. Exploring cyberspace, however, is different. You control Mega
Man. When you start, you are sent a chose of chips. Each chip
contains a certain power, such as cannons, swords, and shields.
When you first start, the you can pick up to five chips from a list of
five chips. So, you would be stupid not to pick them all, unlike Battle
Network where you could only pick more than one chip if the chips
were the same, or had the same code. This makes the game too
easy. And, if somehow choose not to take all of the chips, the Custom
gauge takes forever to fill up(when the Custom Gauge fills up, you
get more chips). You also have to wait for the chips because the buster gun is so weak and fires so slow, which is entirely different than the original games. However, what is really annoying about Transmission is theNet Battles. In Battle Network, battle were fought on a 3x6 board. This way, you were able to dodge moves, and prepare to counterattack. Since Transmission is in 2D, it is almost impossible to dodge abosses moves, and since the battle stage is so freakin' small, you have almost no room to maneuver. The only way to win is to pummel the boss with weapons until it dies, never letting the boss attack you. This makes the battles so annoying, you just don't want to battle. Overall, the gameplay is bearable, but not that fun.

Sound 7/10- The sound in the game is really good. From the buster
gun firing to the sound of Mega Man running, the sound really delivers. It's the music that annoys. Hearing the same Techno music
over and over again while you continuously die against a boss is so
annoying! And, the voices are in Japanese! Well, there are sub-titles, but I would rather hear Mega Man yell "Die!" than it be written at the bottom of the screen in little white letters! Overall, the sound
is okay.

Overall,Mega Man Network Transmission was a good try at making the Battle Network series work on the Game Cube. But, what would have been better would be a Battle Network game on the Game Cube. And I mean exactly like the GBA games; they have to
be in RPG.

Pros:
Original 2D type gameplay in the Battle Network universe.
Great Graphics
Good Controls
Priced $10 less than normal games...

Cons:
Japanese Voice Acting
Battle are boring
Short (about ten hours long)
Hard, you die way too quickly.
Old Mega Man gameplay was implemented poorly (bad buster gun)

megaman is still megaman

I seen all the reviews that came in for this game.
first of all the people that write a bad review for this game are complete morons.
I have this game and i found it very fun and challenging. this is the first game that i got on the gamecube that is. It is the same old megaman but added features. Like chips that help u defeat bosses and enemies. Also yeah your buster is weak but u find power ups that make it stronger. so in reality it is a mixture of megaman and megaman x but it has old megaman bosses with a new look. the people that gives this a bad review don't have any stragety and that is what it takes to beat the bosses.
I am a hardcore megaman fan,but i never tried the battle network series untill now and i'm impressed. i give it 5 stars because i liked everything about the game and i hope they make sequel to it. The graphics are awsome and the people that don't, don't know what they are talking about. i got my moneys worth out of this game. also the people that don't like this game and say they are megaman fans, they aren't. Like my title it is megaman with a new twist.

people, so what if its hard, isnt that what makes the game FUN?! (poor sports..) and bsides if u cant get past a part just go on an online strat guide jeez! and some people are complaining about the japanese talking...thats wut makes it better.......... Dubbed(American Voices) < Subbed (Japanese Voices Wit Subtitles) and im betting that the american voice would be MUCH more annoying than the japanese one (and bsides, dont u think japanese ppl would b annoyed when dey here english?), as most dubbed anime voices sound horrible....anyways...this is a great game buy it ;)

Commendation to Capcom

Capcom has issued many of the jump and blast Mega Man games we've all come to know and love. Though it's usually more of the same, the games are unique themselves and always offer different things using the same gameplay style. This game (unlike a lot of people) lived up to my expectations and more. Not only does it bring back the original gameplay style and feel, but it also incorporates 3D side-scrolling environments and cel-shaded characters as well as other objects in a GCN installment of the Battle Network series. What makes it so different from the "norm" of Mega Man is the incorporation of chip usage. This gives Mega Man so many more techniques and power at his disposal. It also enables more flexibility for the stages. The only setback is like Mega Man Zero, it can be pretty frustrating unless you are a player with pinache. But elite status and finesse all come with practice! To conclude, I want to point out that this game wouldn't be very good for smaller kids, since it does get complicated and difficult periodically.

This game is rocks. You may battle agaist gutsman, flameman, Bass, Ice man, elec man and about everyone else from the tv shows. It is also an adventure game to and you jump Like the way in the games Megaman 1-3 and Megaman v.s. Samus Aran( Yes People it is a real game just find it on the web I don't like when people send me e-mails telling me there isn't I have it and it is fun but also lame). You get dozen of chips has well. Even add power-ups to megaman and give him armor that reduces some attacks by half which ever your wearing. The grafhics too are awsome but it is in japenese. Well I'm out of here see ya.
