Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield is choice and where it's at

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 2

This game, frankly, is choice above all else. The single player is amazing. If you dislike planning out and assembling an entire team yourself, click on the option to skip right into the mission as I do. Routing the team on a map, then selecting men for 15 minutes isn't exactly what I call fun, and it's great that you can take the lazy persons' way out and skip right into the action with a pre-assembled team and routes already drawn up.

Pros:
+Sound is supachoice
+Graphics are orgasmic, so to speak
+Hey, it's a Tom Clancy game!
+Realistic and life-like
+Overall, very sexy. If a babe catches you rockin' this title out, sex time.

Cons:
-Ragdoll physics! What the "heck"?! Sounds cool at first, but then you can get guys that completely crunch in two when you approach and view their dead bodies. The poses some guys manage to fall into under these so-called "ragdoll physics" is absolutely amazing, in a bad way. But occassionally you get some awesome death-falls, such as you shooting a guy and he falls against the wall, then he slides down into a sitting position dead. THAT's hot! Not waist-bending freaks of nature.
-Difficulty. Even under Recruit it's a difficult game, and death often lurks around every corner unexpectedly. Don't get me wrong, it's a FPS and you're supposed to be challenged.. but come now. You walk out in front of a window for one second too long and you get sniped. That makes no sense!

All-in-all, great game. If you enjoy squad-based tactical FPS games, then this is your title. Multiplayer is choice, and single player is hot ... .

REALISIC..... but not my cup of tea

This game is very realisic. And one of the best things about it is there is a whole line up of weopons to choose from, going from 50 M82A1 sniper rifles, to M60s, to AK47's, to M16's.
But this game can become very boring after a while.
For people who like to do stealthy kind of missions... BUY IT!!!!
For people who like to grab an M60, scream "CHARGE", and run at the enemy's base while sparying bullets in all directions... DON'T BUY IT!!!! buy BattleField Vietnam!!!!

Alright, has it's fair share of problems somewhat.

I enjoy shooting stuff. Especially with a huge selection of guns. I like seeing the gun models too, it adds to the realism. Raven Shield or Ghost Recon? Which game is better? Raven shield focuses on close quarter combat, Ghost Recon, emphasizes stealth in huge urban environments with AI that don't always know you are there.

I enjoy the fighting in this game somewhat. Against human players it is great, even and fair. The AI though, is terrible alot of the time.

Planning missions is great. It is easy to set up the entire plan for a squad, sometimes they will be a bit stupid, and won't stop to kill a terrorist, but they get the job done. AI for your team is fine. The only problem I see is fighting. When your backup shoots at enemys, they look at you basically. I turned around to see where my partner was shooting, his gun was moving around crazily and I hear gunshots from it. You see, when the AIs in your group shoot at enemys and you look over in their direction, they want to turn to face you, so you cannot see where they are shooting, which does NOT help you locate the enemy AI's and sometimes gets you and your team killed.

The environments are great. Multiplayer lets you play them over and over, and they are huge and detailed. Lot's of stuff, not much to interact with besides doors, windows, and some explosive tanks, but still it looks good. I however, prefer the huge outdoor enviroments of Ghost Recon.

Graphics are great. Lots of gun models, Ghost Recon didn't show the gun models, which wasn't that cool. I like having the heavy artillery and such. Everyone dies from 2-3 hits basically. One can do the job. I prefer Ghost Recon's wounded and okay status thingy, because sometimes when my hud is off, I won't realize I am wounded until I notice that my guy limps.

As for AI and such. Well, first let me tell you about moving around. When you sit up and down and lay, it is a little, difficult. Sometimes I get shot massively because my character takes forever to stand up, normally in life you could get up and run in an instant, yet the time it takes to move between laying and standing takes too long, and often exposes your back to terrorists. Your team AI will sometimes lay with you, facing the exact same way you are, which will in turn kill them all off from a bad guy behind them. Also sometimes guns dont shoot immediately, like the AK 74. It will pause for about .5 seconds, which sometimes gets me killed. Also gun stability. It takes forever to have the crosshair closed. When you are walking or running or even crouching and walking, your crosshair goes out REALLY far. In real life, when you walk, your gun's ability to hit isn't affected. In this game they love making the cross hairs go out 5 miles when you move an inch. It is almost retarted that the creators decided to make it impossible to hit a guy 2 feet from you when you move.

Ok now I will tell you about the enemy AI. Terrible. Ferocious too. Ok, you are standing and blam, your dead. Look, there is an AI a mile away in the dark. Huh? The AI doesn't need a scope or a night vision, your team is the same way, except your team seems to have crappier vision, and doesn't shoot a guy until he comes in about 15 feet. So darkness doesn't play a role, and stealth only works somewhat, most of the time you will be seen or heard. Sometimes the AI will shoot you while they are turning around. WTF? Yes it is true, sometimes I die from a guy who isn't even looking at me, and the Ai also can see all around them, so if you appear behind them, they see you. I hate how sometimes in cooperative online I will die from crappy AI and have to wait 5 minutes to play again. Then there is the AI aiming. They always hit you basically. Even when they are walking, their gun never seems to miss. When they are standing and you are crouching behind a car, even if they are not looking at your legs, they can shoot you and kill you. Basically if you think crawling will help you get hit less, you are wrong donkey kong.

Overall? I like shooting stuff, playing against human beings is fine. Although I hate the way heartbeat sensors work and hate how sometimes when I crouch, crawl, or stand they will show the exact same reading, humans are flimsy. Heartbeat pucks, jammers, or those other kinds of pucks can easily fool them. I have seen FAR less hackers on this game then counterstrike. Over my time playing online, I think I have encountered one hacker, who died constantly because he thought hacks made him invincible. So for a change of pace, this game is much better than counterstrike for online, has great environments, a planning system that lets a player describe the entire AI path(there are also pre-rendered ones for the campaign), and finally a game that has tons of weapons, so you won't ever get bored.

For those of you who like 1st person shooters, this game is excellent. If you've player Rogue Spear and got addicted like I did then step up to this game. The graphics are excellent. There are new weapons including tear gas, claymors, and automatic pistols for side arms. I still prefer the Eagle over all of them though. You can also customize weapons w/ silencers, high capacity mags, and even thremal scopes on sniper rifles. Oh yea, w/ the thermal scope you can shoot through doors.

The AI is pretty good. Terrorists will chase you and even throw grenades at you. When you frag an enemy they have some pretty interesting death poses. []

Team controls have improved from Rogue Spear too. Now you can switch between individual team members, not just teams. Great for calling on that sniper when you need him.

Now the bad part - the multi player internet option is VERY buggy. I've had the game for 3 weeks and still can't play online. I've been trouble shooting the problems w/ the tech support staff at ubi.com and still no luck. The game has a CD key validation system that does not work for many of us online gamers. They've asked me to disable firewalls, windows settings, download patches, even contact my ISP and check for blocked ports. Way too much work. I'm still trying to get online but it's not looking good. Half the fun of this game is playing online and in Ubi Softs quest to curb software piracy, they have frustrated the honest people who buy their games... One you can burn two hours on and keep wanting more. Good luck to those of you who buy it!

does not come close to previous R6 titles

I have purchased and played every Tom Clancy title to date, both R6 and Ghost Recon. Noticed huge decline in release quality when UBI took over and released GR. It took a mod by the name of "Cold War" to make GR good.

Raven Shield was released with a CD Key verification issue from hell. I bought the game day one and had to switch from DSL to Cable to play MP. After playing for over a month now I have noticed the AI is not as good as previous R6 titles. It offers nothing new and in my opinion less that previous titles. The maps are weak. Yes, the graphics and sound are good, but I would expect them to be.

Bottom line, if you love first person shooters and especially Rogue Spear, prepare to be wowed at first, and bored a month from now. I am now waiting for Swat 4: Urban Justice.

Something is rotten in the state of Raven Shield

ok lets go.

Gameplay-.

First of all you cant save during a mission(wich are very hard by the way) so you are forced to replay the same boring scenario over and over.
If you lose a specialist during a mission, you dont get any replacements, so you could find yourself short on snipers and such later in the game, or replay a mission and try not to lose any men wich is almost an MISSION IMPOSSIBLE.

Missionplanner-.

There is also an overly comlicated "mission planner" but mostly i just use the default mission plans that never work and usually end up in a mission failure.

Recoil-.
Ok i play alot of games with high recoil, and i am all for realism but this is to much.
The recoil on the handguns, smg and rifles is ridiculus.
And to combat that, they have an inbuild aimbot(sjibbí i can let the computer aim for me).

TEAMMATE AI-.

There is no command for your team to cover a direction from wich enemys are suspected to come from.
The game is designed to make AI teammates cover all directions. Thus half the team is looking 12'o clock while taking fire from 6'o clock.
The Teamate AI is very frustrating, as they teamblock you and get you shot in the back, while they cover the wrong directions.

Good bits-.

The graphics are very good and that is always a bonus.
But the game itself is not so good.

Rex Pax.-

To be honest, Rainbow six series was Great when it came out, but I guess it was tooooo great so the sequels looked unfinished and disappointing(not giving new improvements).
I'm not sure this new RS will be Great, but it is different from other RS games. This time they're using the unreal engine instead of the in-house engine. This makes the game look professinal and will give the players new action.
And improved AI. They act more real, like checking their backs for bad guys and do more things than you just ordered to do.
Easy to use controls. You don't need to memorize the complicated short keys to take action, I don't know excatly but it'll be more easy to use.

This game might not be great, but I think it'll give us some new action and fun.
