A Fun Game, But You CAN Get Stuck...

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 5 / 5

Amped 2 is a pretty good game. It has over 15 mountains, tons of challenges, great graphics, and tons of tricks. Its fun for people who like snowboarding games, and its a blast online, playing with up to 8 people. Here's what I thought of Amped 2: by Microsoft Game Studios...

1) Single Player: This game is similar to the original in terms of single player. You start out at rank 250, and work your way up to #1. Only this time, there are more challenges, more tracks, and several new ways to board. There are now 8 grabs (instead of the 2 in the first), and the ability to do a butter. What a butter does is connect 2 moves. So you can do a backflip, do a butter, then pull of a grind. It combines the 2 tricks for a better score. This can lead to a lot more customization. Not to mention the extra 6 grabs...

Amped 2 brings back High Score, Media Score, and trying to find all the Snow Men. It also adds finding the 5 gaps, and pulling off 5 special tricks. Once completing all of this, you can try to out-trick 3 pros, win over 3 sponsors, and do 3 photoshoots (very cool). Each thing you complete increases your rank, and once up to a certain rank (say 200), you can unlock a new track.

One thing about the single player is that it can get incredibly hard. Scoring hundreds of thousands of points, pulling off insane tricks, or trying to impress a very tough sponsor. Fortunantly, with each rank come new trick "point(s)", which you can use to improve your snowboarder. You can increase speed, rotation, air time, blance, and switch (similar to the Tony Hawk series). Spending the points wisely may be the difference between beating and failing the game...

The problem in single player though, is thats its so long, and so hard at times that you just want to give up (like the original). If you do keep trying though, you can beat it. It can just get a bit frustrating at times...

2) Online Play~ The online play is a blast in this game. You can race with up to 8 people in several game types: high score, king of the mountain (pulling off the best tricks on certain hills), and a tournament (which averages out everyones best tricks, high scores, media, etc.. #1, 2, 3...). The cool thing is that you can take you single player character online. So all that work you put in to beating the game is finally worth it. The graphics are great, there are rankings. So online play in this game is awsome. Especially if u love snowboarding

3) Graphics~ The graphics in this game are...amazing. Your character looks almost real (you can customize his or her hair, clothes, snowboard, etc.. And the color of everything). As you board, the snow shoots out from behind. You leave a trail of where you've been. When you grind, sparks fly out from the board. When you hit a tree, you knock snow off. The snow looks real, fun, exicting. Its a blast to board through and pave your way. The tricks look cool and realistic. The mountains you race on have birds, trees, tons of snow, camera men, rails, and buildings. It really does look like a boarding mountain, and adds to the game.

Overall this game is a blast. Better than the first, the online play and extremely long single player make this a great game that will last you for awhile. Reccomended for anyone who loves snowboarding (I might wait a month or 2 and wait for the price to drop tho). A good game that won't dissapoint.

Thx!

Best online game PERIOD. In a world of first person shooters, this game is paving the way for the future of games. It has an advance trick system, where you can link combos together to try an out-score your oponents. Graphics are stunning: character breaths smoke from cold air, sun sets, fog, snowing, breath taking drops, Its like a roller coaster ride.
Many people are on live to play it, so you will have no prohblem getting a game together. The have various online play modes, just ride you compete in a high score rally, or in a session mode you can battle for specific spots on the board, for example, you cna see who can get the best score of one ramp, and claim a star, your characters color will show up, and your openents will have to try and steel it.
The game deffinitly has a learning curve, and has 2 style tricks that involve you triggers and joystick, first game ive every played that matters how gentle you touch the buttons and stick. You will not beat this game in one weekend, it is very challanging, and worth every penny.
SO BUY THE BEST LIVE GAME THERE IS!!!!!!!!!

There are two big snowboarding games on the Xbox - Amped 2 and SSX 3. According to most gamers, SSX 3 is more of an arcade style snowboarding game and Amped 2 is the realistic snowboard simulator. This also explains why SSX 3 usually gets better reviews and has a larger following. Maybe I'm an exception then because I started playing Amped 2 with no previous experience on SSX 3 nor knowledge about pro snowboarding and I quickly became hooked. I have played and replayed so many levels in this game, I now have "Xbox Thumb." If you're not familiar with the series, while you can just play a regular run, the best way is to start a career and slowly but surely you increase your snowboarder's national rank as well as his skills. Besides the numerous fun tracks and mountain runs, there are cool additional games such as photo shoot (you have to follow the hoops for a photo shoot and afterwards, your awesome moves are saved in a film), beat the pro (you follow a pro snowboarder's computer character downhill and have to one up him), and sponsor races (you have to impress your sponsor by doing certain tricks which that specific sponsor enjoys). I've played this game for days and I'm still learning new tricks and ways to interact with the environment. Another cool feature in Amped 2 is the Xbox Live option. You can either compete with other online gamers in a designated time on the same map or just join a server for casual play. I was surprised to find a good amount of people playing the game online. It's nowhere close to the numbers that play popular Xbox shooters but it's not a trival amount either. Overall, Amped 2 really surprised me especially because I've never been into extreme sports titles. Amped 2 is an addictive title that will keep you coming back to perfect your snowboarding skills.

Most realistic snowboarding simulation there is...

Amped 2 is the most realistic Snowboarding game there is. It is more on the simulation side of he sport instead of SSX tricky, which is on the Arcade side. So it depends on what kind of snowboarding game you are looking for.

GAMEPLAY: 4.5 Stars

Amped 2 has a great trick system that has a fast learning curve to pull off tricks, but that doesn't mean you can pull off monster tricks right away. The Career mode is good, you create a character and start with low stats and earn attribute points as you get farther into the game, like spin/flip, ollie, and balance points. There is also a great selection of gear and clothing, brands like Burton and Volcom along with many more. You'll start unlocking new mountains in the game, real-life mountains around the world. I ride at Big Bear mountain and it looks really good with the real runs!!! Gameplay is definatley challeging but can be mastered with practice. Oh, did I mention XBOX LIVE???

GRAPHICS: 5 stars
Graphics are awesome, mountains are detailed, with ability to ride almost anywhere on them. A mountain I'm familiar with I actually ride the runs that I ride in real life, with the same rails and everything!

UNLOCKABLES: 5 stars
There is real life boards, bindings, boots, goggles, and clothes in the game. along with the real life mountains, this is as realistic as you can get.

FUN FACTOR: 5 stars
Though this is meant to be a simulation snowboarding game, it is very fun and you'll find yourself playing for hours just to unlock new things and increase your player stats.

If you are looking for a realistic Snowboarding game, get this one. If you are looking for an arcade style of snowboarding game, with avalanches, trees falling in your path, and huge jumps, look elsewhere, possibly SSX Tricky.

The controls for amped 2 have changed slightly but are much easier than the original. The biggest and best feature for this game is xbox live. The live mode is awesome. It has 1/4-ly and weekly stats and tons of gamers on all the time. All gamers online do not have equal stats. IF you want to score high online you must play the 1 player game and up your players stats. This imho is an awesome way to get players to play the single player mode if they even want to be somewhat good online. The xsnsport.com feature is excellent too. With xsnsports.com you can login with your gamertag and setup contests and packs. Contests can run for a certain amount of days and can be open to anyone or by invite only. Packs adds another great feature and makes clans somewhat useful in a game like this. You can checks your packs stats and see how your pack rates against another pack. Another new trick ability is style. With style you can spin a slow 360 off a cliff and get just as many points as if you threw a fast jerky 1080. Style can also be used while jibbing, grabbing, and doing a butter. The butter was also another trick that was added so you can manual between obstactles and get a multiplier for linking tricks together

There really arent many flaws with this game at all. The controls are right on, the xbox live features rock, and the game is tough enough to keep you entertained for a while.

Best snowboarding game on x-box.

This game differs from most other snowboarding games on the market, in that Amped 2 tries to base itself on real snowboarding. Other snowboarding games (e.g. SSX Tricky), have more of a video game feel.

The game play is fairly simple to get the hang of, if you have ever played snowboarding or skateboarding games before. The goal of the single player mode is to move your way up the snowboarding ranks to #1. You accomplish this by getting high scores, media scores (tricking near media icons), sponsors, and by beating pro.s (a little like follow the leader). As you beat levels, your rider increases in skill level. (i.e. turns faster, jumps higher, etc. etc.). After you reach #1, you unlock "legend" challenges on each mountain. These are incredibly difficult challenges similar to the ones above (high score, media, or pro).

The graphics and sound are really good. The trees and the snow look real, and the lighting looks pretty real as well. The sound is dead on, whether you're snowboarding on ice, packed snow, or even rocks. And, one of my favorite features, this game allows you to play your own music on the soundtrack (although I have to admit some of the songs that came on the game were pretty good).

The online version is good, but nothing special. The game types are: king of the hill, trick race, high score, or just ride. Typically, you'll ride with about 7 or 8 other players. The game is pretty good about not lagging online. The downside is that playing with other players doesn't really add much to the gaming experience - you're still riding and tricking down the mountain.

My only beef with this game is it's a total consumerism sell-out. After accomplishing a goal (such as beating a pro or getting a sponsor), you're "rewarded" with a video of a snowboarding company or a rider you've never heard of. I want my commercials on TV, not on my x-box.

Okay, I have done real snowboarding & played Amped 2 & I can tell you that this IS a realistic simulation, In snowboarding, you really DO gain speed that fast, you really DO get that much air off ramps & you ARE able to pull off a 360 on the flat, the only unrealistic aspects of the game for me were the sparks when you grinded a rail and the way your character slows down. the levels are huge with short loading times, the variety of tricks for an Extreme sport's title is second only to the Tony Hawk Titles. you wont get bored in a hurry, buy this game NOW!

Australia does have snow if anyone think's I'm lying about snowboarding

Amped 1 surprised me. Out of the box I noticed that on a bright winter day, the sunlight caused the snow to twinkle just slightly as a mist of snow flakes kicked up from my board.

Shortly before I hit a lift pole.

D'oh... That game had a tuff learning curve, but i rose through ranks to become a superstar boarder. What fun!

When i opened amped 2 and put it up on my big screen. Oh wow... the snow twinkling was back, but now my player breathed a small mist, the shadows were much crisper and the colors and palettes were so much better, more realistic and more enthralling. The backgrounds and terrain are accurate and fun to explore. In HDTV-mode the quality and effort of the artists is easy to see. The mountains are realistic enough for my roommate to walk in and say "hey four o' clock? I've skiied there!". I'm very happy with the challenging new game types, new mountains and exciting gameplay.

Once again, for true boarding fans, Amped! is the way to go.

I am a snowboarder and have to say that playing this game is the next best thing to being up on the mountain. The controls are perfect, the visuals a great, and the fact that it has multiplayer capabilities (including up to 4 players split screen). This game is a MUST HAVE for anyone who is looking for the best snowboarding game available on the Xbox.
