Playing it again on the XBOX 360!!!

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 1

I played through Fight Night 2004 back when it came out and had a lot of fun. Other reviewers have mentioned that different boxers have different approaches to being in the ring with you, and they are correct! You'll need to react accordingly or find yourself laying on the mat trying to get the dizziness out of your head.

Playing this on original XBOX was great. Playing on the 360 is also fun, but there are a few graphical errors you'll have to overlook. The front right quadrant of players heads has a graphical glitch that leaves a quarter of the players hair missing. If you're playing a character with an afro, this can be interesting, since they have a 3/4 afro instead of the full thing and you can see inside the hair (it is hollow). Tattoos also fail to appear on the 360.

I read a review where the reviewer complained about mandatory retirement; I disagree. A 42-year-old boxer is really pushing it. He's going to go down. Your body at 42 isn't what it was at 20, especially after you've been through a professional boxing career.

Anyhow, I like everything about Fight Night 2004. It's just pure fun. Make sure you do the training in between fights. If you get good, your stats such as stamina and speed will go up much faster than if you select the Auto Train feature.

At the prices you can get this game for, I recommend owning a copy whether you're still playing on the original XBOX or have upgraded to a 360.

5 words for ea sports

where is floyd mayweather jr?!?!?! the man is the hottest boxer today lightweight champion of the world, regarded as one of the top 5 pound for pound boxers in the world by The Ring, how could you not put this man in the game and include guys like Jeff Lacy, Jermaine Taylor, Kevin Kelley, and Derrick Gainer guys who have absolutely nothing on Mayweather. There's always something like this wrong with ea sports games but that said, the gameplay and seamless controls are unmatched. they really bring the realism of the sport right into your game room and the fact is this is without a doubt the best boxing game out right now.

Surely a Contender

Well let's start with some of the cons first:

I am not a big fan of the ragdoll graphics during a knockdown. The wobbly legs have been overdone to a point of sillyness. Also, it seems everyone bleeds the same way. More ring girls would be nice as well as more venues. I think an option to replay classic fights like Ali v Frazier in Zaire or John L. Sullivan fighting bare knucles would be terrific. Finally, as many have already mentioned, there are a lot of good fighters missing - which can be unterstood since there might be licensing issues or whatever.

Pros:

The soundtrack is excellent. However, if you are not a big fan of rap than I can see how this could be irritating. My only question is where is Survivors' Eye of a Tiger??? The career mode is very well done and the create a boxer options are, IMO, up to par with those of Tiger Woods' 2004. I can see how the controls can be annoying but some people are just impatient and want instant gratification. I guess if that's your main issue than you can A. Change the controller settings or B. Buy Mike Tyson's Punchout for NES. The fighting engine is terrific and no more dumb opponents which raises the bar for boxing fans. I expect even better things out of next years' edition, but for now FN2004 is pretty damn good.

Huge improvement in boxing games

This game has displayed a huge improvement form the last EA Sports boxing efforts in the Knockout Kings series. It might be a little difficult to control at times but you do have total control of your man at all times.

The controls are awesome!!! The total control things works extremely well. I like it much much more than other boxing games where it is just a whole bunch of button mashing. The graphics are good. It's fun to compare your face with your opponents face after each round. I also like it when the opponent is about to be knocked down and you push him up against the ropes. When you finally get the punch that knocks him down, the ropes support him so he stays up for a while. You can continue to beat the living daylights out of him while he's knocked out. I dunno, that's fun to me. One minor putback for this game: the a.i. Sometimes the opponent just runs away from you or circles around you. While he is doing this, the background psins around, and it makes you sick to your stomach. Plus it's hard to hit him with anything when this happens. Other than that, this game is awesome.

Boxing game done right

Just had the game a couple of days and enjoying every minute. I agree with some of the other reviews on the clinching it should be an option, it's just apart of boxing and should be included. Also, lets get a real annoucer but I loved the soundtrack. Also, get ready for sore thumbs the game is addictive, but the toggles will wear your thumbs out (don't get me wrong no pain, no gain). It's a must buy for the boxing fan, sports fan, the game fan. Can't wait to see the improvments for the 2005 version.
