I'm 13 and in no way corrupted by this magnificent game

This is one of the greatest games ever made. Seriously. You are free to do anything you want to, from beating up a pedestrian to flying a helicopter through a huge city. But first, let me get one thing cleared up: This game is NOT about killing innocent people. It is basically about a small time mercenary who gets hired by different people to do jobs for them. Yes, some of the jobs are about "wacking" a certain individual, but they are usually people who did or were going to commit a crime that someone would be angry about. You could do all the missions in this game without hurting any innocent people. It isn't the game that's bad, it just matters who's playing it. And about the prostitutes, you can pick them up and the car does bounce up and down, but you can see inside the car and clearly see that the people are just sitting in their seats. Yes, I know the concept is that they are... you know.... But, it really wouldn't mess a kid up that much. And there is some language, but come on, it is the same as what you would see in a movie. So if there's an 11-13 year old who wants to get this game, it should be OK, as long as they understand that it's just a video game.

Does Xbox deserve this game?

Sound:4/5: Both of the games in this pack have great music and sound fx. While you are in a car or on a bike you can choose between many different radio stations. The radio stations have a variety of songs and advertisments. My only complaint about the sound fx are when you can here people on the street talking. They say the same things over and over again and can get on your nerves.

Graphics:5/5: The graphics of these games need no work. The car models and detail of the people and objects are about as good as it gets. Definately not plain or boring at all.

Gameplay:5/5: I have played vice city and gta 3 both on ps2 and xbox. To me, the xbox versions have much better gameplay. It is simple and easy to learn but at the same time, there are many different actions to take.

Features:5/5: There are many things to do in this game. First off, there are about 70 or 80 missions to do which are all very fun. Even after you beat the game there are more things to do such as purchase properties and do side missions or even just screw around and kill people for fun.

Overall: Xbox definately deserves this game because they are gonna sell alot of copies and go big. For only 50 bucks you get 2 of the best games ever made. This double pack can keep you busy for months(or at least weeks). So if you dont have it already, get your @$$ to wherever you buy games and pick it up.

A revolutionary concept as it was meant to be

Anyone who has ever even so as touched a video game controller has probably experienced the conceptually ingenious, yet controversial game series known as "Grand Theft Auto." The artistically acclaimed visuals, the sense of freedom, and the easy-to-pick up controls have attracted players worldwide, and now that this mastery of programming has been introduced to a system with more power, the game can finally be played as it was meant to be played.

One would have to live under a rock to not already know what the whole purpose of this game series is, but for those that somehow haven't been informed, it is a free-roaming game, meaning the player is allowed to wander anywhere they wish to in the virtual world. The player has the capability to hijack any vehicle they wish, interact with (shoot, stab, cut, maul or slaughter) anyone they see on screen, and overall live out a life seperate from their own. There are also scripted missions the player can work at to keep themselves occupied if the running around gets boring (which it doesn't.)

Now for the controversy. Though many people steer away from this video game simply because of the violence, it is not nearly as explicit as it has been accused of being. Though the game gives the player the ability to steal cars, kill civilians and rob jewelry stores, the game is definitively cartoony, meaning that any 12 year old kid with half of a brain can immediately see its artificiality. In other words, stop overreacting, moms. I'm sure the last thing a parent wants to hear out of their son or daughter is, "Go shoot that hooker," but still, it doesn't mean they will go out into the real world and try the same thing. The games are intended to have a distinct atmosphere and to leave the player feeling unrestricted. Whatever else they do is out of their will.

Now, one might ask, "Why buy it for X-box?" The answer is obvious and simple. The games are included in a package of two for the price of one, and now that the visuals and physics have been updated to utilize the power of the X-box, the game is finally being played as it was meant to be. The trees around reflect off of the passing cars. The player can practically see every pebble in the pavement below his or her feet. Everything is smooth, like a painting, and the resolution (number of pixels displayed on-screen) has been increased, meaning there is more detail, further increasing the feeling of the player actually being there. As for the physics, everything reacts to everything else in the environment; cars dent more realistically, street lights fall down more realistically, and if the player manages to dent the hood of their stolen car open, the entire engine is rendered down to every last detail. For simpletons, this may not be considered that much of an achievement, but for people with an eye for art, "Grand Theft Auto 3" and "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" are a calling.

It does not matter if you already own the series for the Playstation 2; playing the series on the Xbox is almost a new experience that should not be missed by any hardcore or casual gamer. "Rockstar Games" have definately out-done themselves with this little package. Make their work appreciated and pick up a copy as soon as you can.

Great game, but has pitfalls

I really enjoy the Grand theft auto series, and I've actually been playing it since the original titles. Whereas it is completely true that this game is ground-breaking in almost every way, these games have some major setbacks too.

I bought the double pack almost immediately when it came out, because I had played GTA3 before and I desperately wanted to play Vice City. The game was absolutely phenomenal. The new freedoms were amazing--the helicopters are fun, the motorcycles are amazing--and all the new gameplay elements contribute to your feeling of taking over the town.

I had some problems with the graphics--most of the time they are nice, but occasionally clipping or other glitches became too much. The areas are also too crowded, you never got much opportunity to just unleash that engine and fly around town. It was fun buying property--but there are bugs in the game on some of them. Some save points don't work right, and some safe houses are useless.

The most annoying factors occur when you desire a certain car: it just seems like the game knows what car you want and purposefully hides it from you. My BIGGEST beef with the game is this: after putting in well over 20 hours of gameplay--my game just became corrupted. I saved in the mansion on Shellfish Island (which is a small island between the 2 larger ones), and every time I tried to leave that island, the game froze and made an annoying noise. I thought maybe my disc was damaged, but when I tried another copy I was dismayed to learn that it had to be my save.

The game is too long to rent, so my recommendation is to buy it for another system or don't pay much for it. I've also heard that using codes and then saving corrupts your save as well.

A tale of two Grand Theft Auto's

Grand Theft Auto: Double Pack - Circa 2003

GOOD:
- You get Grand Theft Auto: 3 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, in one package (two different discs and cases)
- Some of the graphics and models have been improved (like car engines, rain effects, and some structures)
- Play all your custom sound track from your Xbox hard drive
- Quicker loading then Playstation 2 versions

BAD:
- While some of the graphics and models have been improved some look just as bad as the Playstation 2 versions
- For some reason this game has a habit of lagging at certain times (usually when a lot is going on at the same time)
- While you can play your custom sound tracks from your Xbox hard drive there is no random play option and all song are broken up the way you left them on your hard drive
- Targeting for shooting is odd to say the least, and not half as good as it should be

IF IT FITS YOUR TASTE:
- Adult or at lest mature themed world and story, comes off like a crime themed comedy
- The world famous go any-where do any-thing "crime simulator" which has you doing missions that range from killing mob members to selling ice cream
- "Sand-box" gameplay allows you to follow missions at your pace and when you want as well solve missions the want you feel fit
- Ability to steal cars plans boats tanks and other vehicles

GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- Grand Theft Auto: 3 (PS2)
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2)
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- These are basically the same games from the Playstation 2 sold together as one package deal with some minor improvements
- You can find similar versions of these Grand Theft Auto's on the P.C., which there is a ton of custom user made content on the Internet

WAY TOO MUCH FUN !!

I have never seen a game that is so free and open. It takes days of play just to learn the city streets and interesting places to go for...Well, Whatever you want to do. I really like this XBOX version more than the other formats for many reasons. The graphics ARE better. There are more cars to take, The custom radio stations and the insane car stunts you can try, just to list a few. When you get into a car the radio is on. You can click onto one you like or in this game, load YOUR favorite songs from CD. It is easy to do, No MP3 files or computer downloads. Just you CD's saved into your XBOX memory. In certian areas you will see ramps in some very starnge places but back up and hit them! See how far and how dramatic you can send a car into air, Just get out and run far before it blows. If your insane stunt is good enough you will see it in slow motion and also earn money for it. Speaking of money, you new players out there. Watch the...Let's give the nice hooker a ride impulse. Every second she is in your car ='s money lost. Another tip to new players. Don't point your gun at anyone who is important unless you intend to fight. Pulling a gun on a cop, Or gang member with friends near by is a bad move unless that's what you want. If gang members come after you and a cop is around, He and they will be on you. Cops don't seem to side with you in this one. Also, If you kill a cop you better run (NO drive) fast and far. They don't seem to care if you speed or run lights or kill bums or hookers but they take cop killing seriously. This is why you have to learn the streets.
It is really true This double pack should keep you going a long time. You HAVE to play it alot just so you don't miss anything. Anyone that tells you you can learn and see everything in these games inside of a few days is full of it! GTA 3 alone should keep you interested for weeks and weeks. Vice City is even bigger and more involved so start with GTA 3 and go from there.

AMAZING!!!!!!!

all i can say right now is, wow...... GTA 3 and GTA: VC are amazing games. The graphics are superb and well-done. All those people who are giving this game one star because of all the violence, obviously haven't played the game themselves and are only going off what they've heard about the game.

The best of the best!

Grand Theft Auto has always been a hit on PS2 which includes GTA 1, 2, 3 and Vice City. Now Rockstar has decided that the hit series will make it onto Xbox. YES! This package comes with Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto Vice City and they are both games that cannot be missed!

Graphics: The graphics in GTA are superb. And whats better is that they are Xbox enhanced making the graphics even better then the ones in the PS2 version. The chracter models are pretty good, not the best, but still very good. The only thing in terms of graphics that might need a little bit of work on before GTA San Andreas comes out for Xbox is the actual background animation. But other then that, the graphics are great!

Gameplay: The gameplay is probobly the best aspect of the entire game! The controls are fairly easy to get used to and there is so much that you can actually do! From random shootings, to cop chases/fights, to even playing basketball! Did i mention.....Uhh, maybe thats not suitable for a review! To wrap the gameplay feature up, it is definetely one of the best out of all the Xbox games and adds to the reasons why you should definetely pick this one up from the shelves!

Audio: The soundtrack in GTA is also great. With songs wih rock/rage rock theme to them, this feature will have you sitting down listening to the music rather then actually playing the game!

The only problem with this game is that there is no online support which i thought was a real bummer!

As a result, this game is DEFINETELY not geared towards kids, however if you are over eighteen and you do not have this game yet, two words, GET IT!

The PS2 Classic Makes It's Way To XBOX

Grand Theft Auto 3 was the blockbuster that came out of almost nowhere. GTA 1 and 2 where little known PSX sleepers, but they where sure a blueprint of what was to come.

DMA Design aka Rockstar North took the GTA 1 and 2 forumla and added a 3rd dimension. Little did they know it was going to explode into such a mainstream event.

Both III and Vice City will have a few improvements on XBOX. The first and most noticeable being the improved visuals. No longer will there be trademark PS2 'jaggies' or stiff animation. These problems have been cleaned up for the XBOX releases. You will also be able to use custom soundtracks from your XBOX hard-disc. I can't wait to be running people down while blasting the Pixies "Got Something Against You".

The controls have been re-mapped for the XBOX controler. From what I've read online these are the controls:

Left Stick: Walk/Drive
Right Stick: Look Around
D-Pad: Cycle Weapons
Left Trigger: Aim/Brake
Right Trigger: Attack/Gas

A: Run
X: ? (I can't remember)
Y: Hijack Car
B: E-Brake
Black: ?
White: ?

Well I forgot some, but those are roughly the XBOX controls.

GTA III and VC will be great on XBOX. Should you buy this if you have both for PS2? Probley not, but it might be a good rental.

This game is hot

Buy it. Quit reading the review, go buy it. I've been playing it for HOURS and want to quit my job so I can play it more. But then the electricity would go out... so I'm limited to 12 hours a day. This game is GREAT. Quick loading, smooth graphics, and better than the PS2 version... buy it. NOW!!!
