Can you say.......INCREDIBLE?!

If you like Bond, GTA 3,or MEtal Gear Solid, you've chosen the right game. Amazing bullet time slows down the action like the Matrix and gives you more time to shoot. This game is definitley the best. If you can get your hands on it, you're lucky. This game is a keeper!!!! A+++++

Great Game!

This is the absolute best 3-D shooter out there! It blows away anything you can think of. The only reason (the other game) is so highlighted is because it's made by Microsoft. I think, however, that most gamers will enjoy Rockstar's hard, edgy approach to shooters, though. The comic-style boxed cut scenes between levels are VERY entertaining, also.

Pretty Good

In the first level of the game, Max comes home to his house to find that it has been ransacked and that the bad guys are still there. He goes up stairs and hears his wife and baby crying. They are both then killed in a very dramatic, and a very disturbing way. THIS IS A VERY CREEPY GAME! The content of the game shouldn't be heard by little kids under 10 yrs old. It involves very very crude language (example): " Hey Tony, just kill any motherf**ker that gets off this d**m f**king subway". Many of the bad guys talk like this. their's also very dramatic opening scenes that scare me. I'm 13 and I don't think kids under my age should see this. This game disturbs me; but it is a very fun game that draws you in with many cut-scenes that are very interesting

Graphics: 4-nit the best, but very creepy lighting

immersion: 5-very very deep immersion. I was drawn in after the first five minutes(literally)

Fun-Factor: 5-this game is very fun. using bullet time allows you to not get hurt most of the time

Payback Meets The Matrix

Bottom line, this game rocks. It's a combination of the cheesy 70's style crime drama script of Payback with the action of the Matrix. It's a must play for anyone who loves playing action games, once you get used to the controls.

Immersive, fun and doable for the occasional gamer

If you are an obsessive gamer who spends hours a day mastering all kinds of games, then you'll be able to burn through Max Payne in pretty short order, and the replay value probably isn't very high.

However, if you only occasionally play, then this is one of the best games out there. It will take quite awhile, and it can be tricky, but you never feel like you're in totally over your head. You can save the game virtually at any point (just don't accidentally save when you were planning to load because you were about to die...I've done that once or twice!!).

The plot isn't exactly Shakespeare, but for a game, it's emmersive. The game plays out at times as though you were in a graphic novel, but mostly its a first person shooter with the added bonus of "bullet time," which is fun and certainly helps you out of more than one or two bad spots.

The game is violent, and there is some modest bad language. It feels gritty, mostly because you're shooting people instead of monsters, but it also gets you a little bit emotionally involved. Also, game play is relatively simple, so that novices can pick up the niceties of controlling Max fairly quickly. There's an excellent demo you can play to learn all the basic moves in about five minutes. The game has some atmosphere, and the sound work is top notch.

It's a classic game...just consider this fair warning to highly experienced gamers: maybe you just want to rent it. But for people like me, who don't have time or inclination to play alot, we will certainly get our money's worth, now that the game is priced under $20.

A great stepping stone for games to come...

I have to admit it, I am addicted to this game. I just got it yesterday, and I was playing it off and on until 5 o'clock in the morning (Thankfully it was on a weekend). I would play it for a while, turn it off since I didn't want to get burned out on it so quickly, but not even an hour later, I would be back playing it again. It really is that addictive.

The only thing about this game is that it pretty much is all action (i.e. shooting a few bad guys and going through the door and then having to shoot more bad guys). Don't get me wrong though, I love this game. The bullet time is a great concept for a video game and only adds to the excitement of the game. Although, I'd like to see a little more in this game that you do in other games. For example, in other games like this, you can climb ladders or climb things in general and you can't do that in this game. Like as in Tomb Raider, you can jump, grab onto something, and climb up.

Also, I'd like to see a little bit more puzzle solving, or something that helps you to use your mind a little more. While there is a little of that in this game, it is kept to a minimum. Just going around shooting guys over and over can get a little dull.

The good news is, is that the bad guys are not as stupid as they are in games of the past. They'll hide behind crates and such, and wait for you, or they move around to try and get a better shot at you. That really adds to the game. I also love walking up to a door and hearing them talk on the other side, then walking through and blasting them while they are just sitting around bragging to each other.

All in all, this game kicks (...). I can see myself playing it over and over again... until the next best thing. ;) I do believe the Xbox is one killer machine and has only begun to show us its power and abilities. This is one game that does. Also, I know you probably already have it, but Halo is another one of the better games for this system. As for Max Payne, to paraphrase that old potato chip commercial... "No one can play this game just once."

Max Payne for the XBOX. Good controls, excellent visuals and sound, extremely detailed. But how many mobsters say "freaking" instead of the real word? The "M" rating is supposed to correspond to a movie's "R" rating, so I guess the programmers didn't have the guts to put the real word in there.
The "TRANCE" sections, in which a baby constantly cries and you have to run along a thin trail of blood surrounded by a black void, [is bad]. But an awesome game nonetheless. A must buy.

GREAT GAME

I was amazed by the graphics and bullet time the first time I played it. But I really don't like too much talking in a game. I want to get into the action at once. Good thing you can skip these things. I also hate playing with Max Payne finding his way out of the maze.

And after I finished the game, I tried playing it again but was disappointed by the time limit. There is not enough time to explore and find weapons and ammo.

But overall, the game is great.

sick!

This game is the most addictive game i've ever played. And the only game that I ever completed. I would recommend this game to everybody that owns a system that has this title. Definite five stars! out
