Different that UT, still a must-own!

Yes, I HAVE played the (beta) demo. Yes, the graphics are, ahem, unreal! Hardcore, talented UT fans will be disappointed by some changes--for example, the translocator needs charging (gasp!) UT2K3 is more team-oriented, and being a sports fanatic also, I found it a pleasing tweak to the play of the original. I cannot wait to see the final production! Storm the stores and buy every copy--the day UT2K3 is released, the 'net will see traffic like it hasn't seen since the Victoria Secret online fashion show! But, if you see Con_Artist on your server, run--I'm deadly :)

Nothing new...

Epic Megagames have really jumped the boat since their heydays, but they were very lucky with Unreal and Unreal Tournament. Both were fantastic and simple games to play which hearld back to the days of DOOM. Now with Unreal Tournament 2003 you get improved graphics and lots of added features from the original game. Strange thing is though, when I started playing the game I thought I was playing the original. The graphics may look prettier but I didn't notice them, neither did I care about the new skins either, this is a shoot it if it moves type of game you don't have time to look at the pretty pictures, you've got to keep moving and that's why this game fails because basically the gameplay is the same as the first game. A huge, but expected, disappointment from this once great game developer.

Unreal Tournament 2004 is coming soon and it looks like it's jumping on the GTA bandwagon by adding vechiles for you to control. I'd say wait for that one, but if you can't wait buy the original Unreal Tournament, it's cheaper and it won't need a powerful computer, UT2003 is a joke.

YOURE KIDDING

Please, anyone who played the original Unreal will know that they took away all the cool stuff and emphasized the crap !

Gone is the wonderful sniper rifle.
Gone is the balance between all weapons (now 2 weapons are superpowerful)
Gone is the stearable Redeemer (the new one steers like a bus)
Gone is realistic movements (one second hes there, next hes not)
Gone is any skill

This game sucks, online and off. Only the bombing run (online) is slightly fun, but is always screwed by guys who make the teams unbalanced.

Absolutely the best game out....

That is until the new Doom is released by Id software.
I've been a Quake'er for a long time. I didn't get into UT until this release. Wow! Excellent maps and game physics. Any gamer whether PC,Mac, or console, will appreciate this game. You do need a pretty good videocard to run this at its intended settings. If you have the equipment, not running at its absolute highest details would be a crime. Get it, you won't be dissapointed.
4 stars because the huge space needed on your hardrive. 1 gig plus and more when you start adding 3rd pary maps and mods..etc.

This is going to be great

UT2003 is a garaunteed hit. It has all the weapons from the original UT (some have been changed a bit, but still stay in tact), and it also has many new features, like skeletal animation. Not to mention graphics, which are sure to be groundbreaking. I will be sure to get this game the day it comes out, and I recommend any other UT experts to pre-order it also (if you haven't already)

need to go back to the computer board

Unreal 03 to me is not so unreal..weopons are ok..not nearly as good as original unreal..graphics are awesome.do not like new sniper rifle. It's like a Buck Rogers nightmare..I wish they had just enhanced original unreal tournament a little bit..I think they went a little overboard.. not really what I was expecting it to be.But the graphics are awesome..thak you NVIDIA..for at least putting in good graphics....Thanks but I'll stick to the original unreal tournament..it kicks A--

I would have to rate Unreal Tournament as the game that got me interested in gaming. It has never been off my hard drive. However Unreal Tournament 2003 seems more like Quake three in many aspects except while Quake 3 had a lot of re-play value I have hardly played UT 2003 since I got it. I hate to say this, but the game is dull.

I also want to protest the shoddy way in which the game was shipped. It came in the old-fashions "big" cardboard box, which in this day and age everyone knows is just wasteful. The box design is ordinary to say the least. The game disc's themselves weren't solidly anchored inside the box, and they were just in plain white paper sleeves, not jewel cases or preferably DVD-style cases. The manual was printed in a pinkish text on white so I could hardly read it, was very short, and contained errors.

Worse still the key for the game for some reason was stuck on the back of the booklet, not on the (non-existent) jewel case as is customary. I can see that many people will probably lose or throw the useless booklet away, and thus lose their key.

Obviously Epic have a deal with Prima to sell their game guide, but really, at this price, I expect the game to be packed well in jewel cases with at least some effort made to create a decent installation and game guide booklet. Not good enough, Epic!

Engine is great, but that's about it.

The people who worked on the engine and graphics for UT 2003 deserve the credit. They put out a top-notch product that can be customized heavily (modders rejoice!). However, they seriously lacked in gameplay and in new ideas. It is almost EXACTLY the same as its predecessor, Unreal Tournament (with minor alterations on weapons such as the minigun and the addition of the game mode Bombing Run). You can spend your money on this if you want, but I would rather have spent my money on a game that has innovative gameplay over a game with only new graphics and engine.

ive got all the games serious sam 2 jedi knight 2 medal of honor return to castle wolfenstein quake 3 unreal tournament tactical ops urban terror and this game is unlike any of them. it reaches new hights with its superior graphics engine, one of the most satisfying aspects of this game is that when you kill someone and their body flys away from you and rolls until they are slumped over in a corner somewhere or laying accross a flight of stairs. the weapons are mostly the same as the original unreal tournament. the models/skins are ok because there are only about 12 normal-looking people, the rest are egyptians (yes, egyptians), aliens, robots, and people that look like freak dead people. the maps are very nice looking albiet a bit big. as for sound, the music can never be as good as the original unreal tournament, which had the best music of any game ever; but the player taunting is very repetitive and gets annoying quickly. for graphics, it is a very demanding game, and i play 1152x864x32, all detail options checked and detail types on high, and i get about average 40-50 fps. all in all, this is a very good game. i recommend you check out the demo first to see how you like it.

It also works in Linux

It might not say it on the box that it supports linux but it does. They thought that it (linux support) might not done before they shipped it, but of course they got it done. I just wanted to let all of you people with desktop linux boxes to know this. Its on the 3rd CD and available for download in the demo form.
