This game sucks

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 0 / 25

The graphics on this game are horrible. I bought this game with high hopes that it would make me appreciate x-box. Boy was i wrong. The game [is bad]. I wouldn't even rent it. The game play is just plane bad. If you want a good game buy halo for that is the only game that x-box has that is good. X-box has really let me down. I should have bought a ps2

the only game thats worse for the x-box is azurik

This game could have been really fun if everything about it weren't done wrong. the graphics are poor, the animation is incredibly jerky, and so far as i can tell there is ablolutely no story when the movie had an incredible story, but the worst aspect of this game is it is so hard that its more frustrating than fun to play. oh and watch out for the terrible camera which does NOT let you see anything but what is directly in front of you. And the X-box version is supposed to be the best version of this game, so be careful of getting this poor excuse for a game on any system unless you are considering purchasing azurik.

Very disappointing

I was excited about the release of this game for the Xbox but I have ended up very disappointed. Here are a few reasons why:

1. Overall the game is choppy, and I got stuck with an unmovable character within the first 5 minutes of playing.

2. I tested another character to see if he was "a thing" and I got a negative result (he's still human). Ten seconds later he turns into a thing. The test is supposed to be a 100% reliable way to test your teamates. The game just turned him into a thing to get rid of him so I would have to enter the next area alone. He was never infected.

3. I come upon an area where you can hear a nasty monster on the other side of the door. I go to look through the window... And the screen turns black, and then I am suddenly inside the room, with the monster, and the door out is locked. Basically forcing a situation on you... again.

It is not fun to have these illogical things forced upon you, when the point of the game is to figure out how to stay alive and keep your teammates alive. If the game is going to force them to die no matter what you do, then why even try?

There are more reason to not like this game, including the interface and manuals, but I can get by those if the game kicks butt. It does not.

Pretty Good

Okay, so I buy this game, because I really like the movie. Don't buy this game if you don't like the movie. But even if you do like the movie, there a couple things about this game that'll probably dissapoint you. Like the blood test thing. The game gives you these blood testing syringes to prove if your team mates are the Thing or not. But there are points in the game where certain members of the team become Things no matter what, even if you tested him within a couple seconds before he morphed out and had it come up negative. I was really excited about the whole trust/fear levels aspect of the game, which the game advertises in all it's commercials and stuff. But as it turns out, the "who's the thing?" aspect of the game is only about ten percent of the game. The rest is running around finding keys and shooting the random Things that pop out at you. It's got great graphics, and does do some justice to the movie, but it seems like they rushed this one and didn't smooth the edges.

Pretty good

First off, it takes a lot for me to give a game 5 stars. A 5-star would be excellent graphics and a gameplay that I can keep coming back to. It'd basically be online, multiplayer games. But let's cover The Thing ...

Initially, the game was slow on action. It does, however, pleasantly surprise you by turning up the intensity with each level. Not every game has that shift in pace; instead, they'd stick with the pace The Thing kept on the 1st level -- i.e. Silent Hill 2 pace. After about 5-6 levels, I was really liking the game. Graphics resemble Half Life. First looking at the back of the box box, I thought it utilized the Half-Life engine. Seeing some of the creepers in the game, I think so even more. Just speculation. That said, it keeps a Half Life (PC) quality in graphics. Definitely not stunning, yet not bad. You could demand more from a title on the X-box, though.

Gameplay is definitely geared towards the console. You have a 3rd person view, and you can not look up or down without entering 1st person view. In 1st person view, you can not move the character. You basically see your crosshair and can move it freely. That's it. But it doesn't make it a bad game. Being a 1st person shooter fan, I didn't have any problems with this configuration. This said, the game is again geared for the console. Not the PC. Gameplay is nice. There's not exactly "bosses" that you have to measure up to and beat. It works the way that there's an intensifying level of more powerful foes to battle.

The story and missions make complete sense. It's cool that the game gets better instead of keeping a set pace of action. The levels are quite interesting. It's hard to "forget" to pick up key objects, as it might not be in other games. You've got decent supply of ammo and health, a nice arsenal of firepower, complete with a separate inventory where you can keep grenades, medical kits, and other items. As you meet people in the game, they team up and assist you in battles. You can order them to stay or follow at a spot, provide them with weapons and other items. Similarly, some of these people have the ability to heal you. Others are engineers and can fix items in the environment, like the control-panel for a door to a weapons-storage room.

There is one gripe that I have with the game. On the "normal" difficulty, there's quite a long time between save-points. This makes it difficult, and at times very frustrating. For example, you beat a thing perfectly and move on just to throw a grenade on the floor by mistake and blow yourself up or something. Then, you have to go back and beat that thing again maybe not as good as last time, etc. Or, once done perfectly, you enter a room with cannons that start firing at you and you die. It's kinda like you have to die X times to learn the environment before you have recon'd the area well enough to make it through.

GOOD GAME BUT LOTS OF ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT

I REALLY THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE DIDNT LIKE THIS GAME BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT LETS FACE IT THIS GAME ACTUALLY WAS HARD AND TOOK SOME TIME TO FIGURE OUT AND THAT LEFT A LOT OF GAMERS QUITTING RIGHT IN THE BEGINNING.I REALLY DID LIKE THIS GAME IT JUST HAS
SOME FLAWS LIKE THE CAMERA ANGLES ARE BAD AND THE CONTROL MOVEMENT CAN BE AWFUL AT TIMES AND AGAIN THE GAME AT TIMES IS JUST PLAIN HARD AND MANY WILL GET FRUSTRATED AND STOP BUT IF YOUR UP FOR A SOMEWHAT OF A CHALLENGE THIS IS A REALLY GOOD GAME JUST DONT GET MAD AT FIRST WHEN THERE IS NO FIGHTING OR
BOSSES TO FIGHT BUT WHEN THEY DO ARRIVE YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THE GAME BETTER AT THAT POINT AND THATS WHAT MAKES IT A FUN GAME
AGAIN PLEASE DONT GET FRUSTRATED TO FAST AND GIVE THIS ONE A CHANCE BECAUSE IT REALLY IS A GOOD GAME AND THEY SAID SILENT HILL
ANND RESIDENT EVIL WHERE THE SCARIEST OF THEM ALL IM TELLING YOU
THE THING WILL HAVE YOU SHAKING AND WORRIED WHATS GONNA HAPPEN NEXT IT DOES DRAW YOU INTO A VERY CREAPY ENVIROMENT.SO JUST BE PATIENT AND YOULL HAVE A GREAT GAME TO PLAY FOR AWILE.

Great action game but medium graphics

Incredible game, but the graphics looks like PS2,
lot of variables to take care, very friendly interface and easy to move characters, lot of items to pick. Combines strategy with reflex.

Worth RENTING...

If it were me trying to decide what to do with this game, I would rent it. Because like (some) Tomb Raider games once you beat there is not much to do and its not all that fun to play (beat) more than 2 times. The reason I say this is because there are puzzles to solve and stuff like that, which is fun the first 2 or 3 times and then it gets old. And the controls are a little messed up, and sometimes it can get confusing. So if you think you would like this game you should rent it. If you think 99.9% you'll EXTREMELY LOVE IT sooo much then its worth buying.

Good game but room for improvement

This game should have taken advantage of the Xbox platform and beefed up the graphics more. This would have added so much to a game with this type of setting. Regardless, this is still a decent game but it is difficult and requires patience and determination. It would have been nice to have more save points throughout, since it is a real pain to go through the defeat of some nasty just to die a few seconds later by one teeny mistake. Another problem is the controls/camera angles but what else is new with games of this nature. An interesting story line and increasingly challenging game makes this one worth a try.
