It started off good....

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 2 / 4

This games started off with great promise.... until I got through about 10 races and realize that most of the courses were simply made longer for the harder races. It got repetitive really quick to run the same races over and over. The cars you unlock don't look all that much different from each other either, which just makes me not care about playing it anymore. The music was good though, great to race to. If you are looking for a really good racing game, go for need for speed. If you are a Ridge Racer fan, go for this.

This game rocks

I dont have a PSP but I played this game at my friends house. The graphics are awesome like a PS2. There is lots of cars, and tracks. Also the career mode is really fun. Im going to get a PSP and this game. You should get this game if u have a PSP.

This is obviously a tremendous "Ridge Racer" game in all-time period. Although PSP is much smaller than PS2, it has the good graphics that every people want. The game itself is good and exciting. It provides all the circuits that I played before from 12 years ago in 1993 to 2000 (10/26/2000). For the circuits, I still like the short circuit from Ridge Racer 1 because "it never gets old." Sounds true, huh? So, no matter what, this is the game, baby!! :)

Lots of fun...Excellent game

In all honesty, this game is a lot of fun. The new nitro feature is awesome. I have been pleased with this game and I have been playing this almost everyday.

Great game with great graphics!

I loved this game even though I still haven't finished playing it. I don't really bother playing for new rewards and stuff, I just play the Single Races and the little extra game they have with the annoying music! Graphics are great, music is really good, even though the volume is a bit low(as stated in my PSP review) but overall I give it a 4/5. I really do recommend this game for car-racing lovers.

Awesome!!!! Just Awesome!!!

Great Launch Title!!!

I have virtually every Ridge Racer release starting on the Playstation console (don't have the N64 release) up through the PSP (no X box 360 release yet) and enjoy all these titles immensely. Ridge Racer IV was my first title that I played, and certainly my favorite. (Especially the soundtrack, see below!)

This title is certainly impressive, especially for a handheld version. I am quite impressed with this offer up. I did have a few gripes, but overall, it was certainly very impressive.

Radio Dial
Wow! I LOVED the soundtrack of Ridge Racer IV, and would you believe it, they brought it back for this game!!! I can't believe it! I love, racing along, on these new tracks, portably, listening to the wonderful tracks that I've been listening to on my playstation console for over 5 years!!! Do you realize how long I've been looking for this soundtrack on EBay, and other on-line shopping websites? A long time! Sold out, always!!! Not available!

Major Gripe:
Too dark. As you know, this is a portable game. This is the only game that is too dark to play, in many cases. As most hand held games are required to play, in many different "dark" and "light" conditions, if the game is too dark, it is impossible to play. One major reason for this, is the type of game it its. A "fast" racer. If the brightness drops on a platformer or golf game, for a second or two, no big deal. But when you're in the middle of a tunnel, and the light is not quite right, than, bam, you hit the siderails and you're dead in the water. This game is not quite a sim, but even an arcade game needs a 'breather' and you don't get it, knowing your darkness problems.

Playing this game, brings back memories of the original GBA, with no backlight. Remember that? Yeah, it sucked. Fortunately, this game system has a backlight, but its not quite enough. I will say this: I really love this game! But I hope the producers make it more bright next time! That would be fantastic!

Awesome game! Love it! Buy this, and keep in mind my comments about it being dark, and you should be okay.

when in doubt, just keep drifting

the problem of this game is this.. simply by deliberately drifting the car, you can avoid hitting the boundary, hence the reduction of speed.. although drifting too recklessly could slow you down.. but a well managed but a bit aimless drifting can help avoiding penalty.. and put your car back onto the right direction and track... which i think is a flaw... this makes the game a bit easlier to finish.. and a bit routine

It's racing without the ridges

This is the first game I bought for the PSP and it's a great one. It really shows off the power of the system, the sound is incredible, the graphics jaw dropping, and it's immensely playable.

One minor gripe though is that the basic tour is waaaaaay too easy. Your car easily outpaces anything else on the track and finishing in first place, a mile up the road from the competition in all 30-odd races is no problem at all. Knowing you're going to win every race and spending every lap out in front on your own gets a bit tedious. The Pro section is a bit better however - although could still be a bit harder to get that podium finish! The controls are nicely customisable and intuitive and the cars have suitably different handling characteristics to make the game challenging.

But overall a great PSP game - really playable and a huge 'wow' factor from all my mates - well impressed ;-)

Best PSP Game to date

This is the best PSP game out right now. Lot's of action and excitement. The courses are very visually appealing and well thought out. The additions of the special cars are nice too.

The only beef I have with this game is that the last stages are too hard!!! There is no way most people can bet the computer. On one of the races, it states that only 1 of 200 will be able to complete this track! That's just crazy.

Over all a very good game.

Bad disk

My PSP was not able to read from this UMD disk but once. I had problem when I first run this game, it wouldn't read, but for some reason 5 minutes later it was fine. I left the UMD in my PSP for a few days and played the game, it's a good game, just like what I have expected from namco's ridge racer series. But after I poped that UMD out about a month ago, I was not able to get the game to run anymore. I have 8 games, all of them except this one are fine, the PSP firmware is up to date, the UMD itself is clean, no scratch at all.
