If you played Max Payne, and I'd highly recommend you do before MP2, you'll find MP2 to be just about as good a continuation of the first game as you could want.

I'd recommend playing Max Payne first, simply because many of the same characters make appearances in MP2, and the development of their characters is, in many cases, a continuation from their appearances in the first game.

From a gameplay perspective, Max Payne 2 is more of a continuation of Max Payne than a really "new" game. Bullet Time has been improved, and becomes a more interesting experience in itself than the relatively simplistic shoot-dodging of the first game. You'll also play as characters other than Max, which normally would be really disorienting, but fits within the structure of the game.

I've heard some people complain about the revisiting of environments throughout the game - you'll come back to the same locations several times - but it doesn't feel "lazy" to me. Every time you revisit an area, either it has changed, or your perspective of it has. The areas are never the same twice through, and as a result, it feels more like an evolving place, than a series of "levels".

There's not really a whole lot of other "noir" games out there, and though the over-noir atmosphere may be a turn-off for some, it's one of the things I love most about the series. Max Payne 2 is an excellent shooter, with an excellent story, oozing with atmosphere. Great stuff.

god dam,i have never played the game like max payne 2.when i played max payne,i liked it very much,even the story was so thrilling and it was a blockbuster game and have created a bench mark,no doubt about it,but the sequence "MAX PAYNE 2:FALL OF MAX PAYNE",is orsom.The most likable thing about this game is that it makes the user attach with it.u will find urself emotionally attached,during playing the game when max payne falled in love with MONA SAX,u would find urself as max payne romancing with mona sax.At last when she died u will find tears in ur eyes.The second thing about this game is that,its intense story line up and music that makes u in a thrill ride.The music is so good while playing different levels specially after the level of part 2: blowing up,the music with mona sax in level "out of the window" is chilling and when she finds max payne got shot.i recommend everybody to purchase this game and yes if ur not familiar with max payne u should also go for "max payne".the graphics on havoc engine r very nice,and lightening effects are
wonderful.In the previous version the remedy had used max-r engine ,but this time they have used havoc physic engine and u can find the difference in both the things.

Why doesn't Rockstar update with the times?

The graphic quality has improved since the first one but that is not saying much. My least favorite part of the whole graphic quality of the game is, anytime you see a car, the windshield is not glass, instead it is a hard blue concrete. Also Payne's cutscenes in Graphic Novels is neat, but he talks in riddles the whole damn time! This is annoying. Gun battles are still fun, collision detection is still horrible. This could most likely be called Max Payne 1.5

if you like spy games you will like mgs2, it has a interactive storyline and alot of movies , snake is at it again and he has to infiltrate a tanker photograph the new metal gear and get out before being spotted ....end of story right???? a new player comes in where snake left off.... say hello to raiden, you gotta save the president disarm c4 and go against metal gears and basically save the world i give it a mike rating of 5-out of 5

MAX PAYNE 2 THE FALL OF MAX PANYNE ,NOIR LOVE STORY.
THATS RIGHT EVERYONE THATS THE TITLE YOU WILL BE SEEING ASKED FOR MORE THEN ANY OTHER TITLE THIS UPCOMING YEAR.THERE ISNT EVEN ANY BARKS OR COMPLAINTS IN THIS GAME ITS A PERFECT MASTERPIECE I PLAYED I THINK SOMETHING LIKE 4 HOURS MY FIRST RUN AT IT AND IT SEEMED LIKE 20 MINUTES WENT BY ITS THAT GOOD I FINISHED IT IN UNDER 8 HOURS SO IT PROBABLY COULD HAVE BEEN A LITTLE LONGER BUT HEY DONT MESS WITH A WORK OF ART. BY THIS TIME AROUND EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT BULLET TIME AND ITS JUST AS GOOD AS THE FIRST AND LETS ADD SHOOTDODGEING INTO PLAY A NEW MOVE DESIGNED TO HELP JUMP AND SHOOT IN A DIFFERNT BWAY OF BULLET TIME.ALSO THE STORY IS COMPLETE AND SHOULD BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE ANYTIME SOON MONA IS MAX,S PARTNER IN CRIME AND SHE IS A CROSS BETWEEN LARA CROFT AND BUFFY THE LOOKS THAT KILL AND THE MOVES THAT KILL.JUST AS BEFORE THE CINEMA SEQUENCE IS AWESOME PUTS YOU RIGHT IN THE STORY FOR REAL AND EASY TO FOLLOW AS WELL .BRING IN THE BAD GUYS OHHH YA PLENTY OF THEM WITH TONS OF COOL WEAPONS TO PICK UP AFTER THERE DEAD CORPSES LAY BENEATH.AUTOMATIC RELOAD COOL OPTION YOU CAN ALSO MANUALY RELOAD WHITCH I RECCOMEND BETWEEN FIGHT SCENES.THE DIALOUGE IS AWESOME AND VERY FUNNY AT TIMES BE SURE TO GO SLOW AND PICK UP ON ALL THE CRIME LINGO AS IT WILL HELP GUIDE THRU GAME.THE ONLY WAY TO PLAY IN THE BEGINNG IS DETECTIVE MODE WHITCH LIKE THE FIRST PAYNE GAME YOU CAN SAVE WHENEVER AND AS MUCH AS YOU DESIRE SO THAT ALONE HELPS.ALL IN ALL PERFECT GAME MY CHOICE THUS FAR FOR GAME OF THE YEAR.

Max Payne is not a great game. It's all shooting, no fighting or dirving at all. Its story is so werid and freaked out that I can't understand it at all. I expected better from Rockstar.

I dont want to spoil anything but everything about this game is awesome. I don't know about you but in my opinion this game is better than GTA Vice City. Just go get the game and you will not be disappointed.

I'm getting sick of saying things like. Bullcrap and all that. This time I'm gonna give you the low down about this game. The things that I like about this game is that it has a good story that would make you play this game all night, graphics have changed for the better, I'm glad that Max no longer looks more like Jim Carry. I mean he looks stupid aspecially when it comes to the sad and intense senses. This game was hard because well I haven't tryed it cause I was bragging about how the game sucks. Once my friend came over and brought the game I did the last level and beat it. And when my cousins came over and beat for them two times in a row. At that time it took me almost a day to finish. But when I rented this game it entertained me, which made me play till 3:00 in the morning but it was because I knew want to do cause I played the first. I didn't care that Part 3 on chapter 8 is the last level of the game. Its just one chapter missed so whats the big deal. I'm getting the game for XMAS for Xbox. So please cut this game some slack. I used to be just like you when my friend got the Getaway. Once I watched him play it I thought it stunk, but when I got it I loved it, I would play it all the time. So maybe the reason your saying all this is because that you never tryed it, so try it You'll love it.

Plain and simple this game is just too short. I figured I could get my $55 of satisfaction by playing this game 2-3 hours a day for the next couple of weeks, at least. Well, 3 days, and approximately 9 hours of game play later, the game was over. These additional chapters to the original story line should have just been made available on XBOX live for download. Do yourself a favor and just rent it over a weekend. You'll beat the game and save yourself money.

um sorry skixx the reveiwer kid i thought that was you saying max payne 2 is sweet but part 1 was better sorry well the gamer that said that on here is a complete dumbass this game is won of the best agmes i evered played im putting this won in my all time favorite game list i will tell you about this game when my max payne 2 reveiw comes on here i just wrote it yesterday it should come on here soon and it's long as hell so you know every thing about the game my name is charlie v1 vote for me!!!!
