Amazing Game! I thought it was very bold to spin a love story in a shooter but it works. The graphics are WAY improved in Payne 2 and the plot is cool film noir. The developers have added sniper missions and escort missions for variety. Yes the game is short BUT I haven't enjoyed a game this much in a long long time. By the way you get to play as mona!

It was way to short

OK< I played both Max Payne 1 and 2, and my opinion is that 1 is alot better then 2 due to the fact that it was harder and longer.... I did like 2 don't get me wrong but that game is way to short.... I like it what I was Mona for a few times, that was good, and different.... That graphics were good, I'd say better then the first.... I did like the story line, even though it was a love story what I call a chick flick.... But it all comes down to this, it only took me 2 days to clear it, and it was way to easy, I think my friend who never cleared a game yet, would clear this. All and all I give it a 3 star rating, just for the fact that it is a short game play and way to easy.

Well, I guess I could sum up this game a simply pure melencholy fun. Starting with the graphics I found that Max Payne 2 held it's own against its predecessor and delivered more. The interactive environments will knock you off your feet. It was so great to dodge to the left and bump into a stack of boxes and make them fall. It sounds simple, but it is a great bit of added reality. There are no real improvements in the addition of weapons. The story, in my opinion was better than Max Payne 1. Although I found it easy to figure out was going to happen next. Leading to the last problem of the game, it was too short, like most games now days. What ever happened to games like Super Mario World and Contra that took weeks if not longer to beat? I beat it in about 3 days. I highly advise playing on the harder difficulty settings, which means that you'll have to play the game all over again. Bottom line, if you liked Max Payne 1, try this one, but rent it until it gets down to $20.

Great game

I bought both Max Paynes and enjoyed them both. Max Payne 2 was great. The only draw back was that it was short but that only irritated me because I was enjoying the story and twists so much. If you enjoy games that actually have a plot then this is one for you. This is one of the best games I have bought up to date.

Already waiting for Max Payne 3!

Max Payne 2 may be shorter than the first one but everything is so much better in this game that it will leave you more than satisfied.

First of all, let's talk about graphics. If you're into PC games than you might simply look at Max Payne 2 on the X-box and say that the graphics are just okay. But if you're anything like me you will be deeply satisfied with the detail of the graphics in this game. While Max Payne 1 had good graphics, Max Payne 2 has graphics that are sharper with a lot more attention paid to the small things. In this game you can brush up against things and knock stuff over and shoot bad guys into crates (which look very cinematic in slow motion). I love these features and gives the game a much more realistic feel than Max Payne 1.

Next, the sound is superb. The voiceovers are fantastic (just like in the first Max Payne). The background music gives a very haunting mood to the game and really gets you into the story. Also, the sound effects are crazy. The sounds of gunfire are intense and are some of the best gun sound effects that I've ever heard in a shooter game.

Now, let's move on to the plot. While Max Payne 2's plot isn't quite as captivating as Max Payne 1's was it still draws you in due to some fantastic voiceovers and character twists. The ending of this game is reason enough to get this game.

For those of you who played the first Max Payne and like the gameplay you will be pleased to know that the gameplay has basically remained the same.

Now one thing I see not being brought up here is Max Payne's nightmare levels. Players of the first Max Payne might remember those pain-in-the-@$$ levels trying to jump from one very thin board to the next wondering what the hell the point was. Well, you can now rejoice because while Max Payne 2 does have the nightmare levels, they don't have any frustrating challanges like that anymore. This time you basically get to walk around and enjoy what goes on around you and get more into Max's head at the same time. Bravo!

I have heard some people complaining about Max Payne not being innovative enough but I don't see their points. Why mess with a winning formula? The graphics are great, the characters are captivating, and the controls are some of the most user friendly that I've seen in a shooter in a while. Especially now that the Max Payne 2 is only $10.00 there is absolutely nothing to complain about!

Max Payne 2 will not let you down especially if you loved the first Max Payne game. Get it and enjoy it! I guarantee you that once you play it you will, just like I am, be waiting quite impatiently for Max Payne 3!

Max Payne 2 - the makings of greatness

Max Payne on the PC was one of the craziest games I've ever played. I still play it once in a while for nothing more than its all out gunning madness. It truely was a visceral experience from front to finish, which came all too soon. That is probaly my biggest gripe with Max Payne 2 is that it is also somewhat short. Though, there is greatness to be found in this game. The is depth to be found in it's simplicity. The run and gun tactics make for one intense experince that you will easily want to relive. Graphically, Max Payne 2 on the xbox is pretty sweet. There are no reflective effects such as the ones found on the PC and sacrifices have been made in the explosion department, but its likely you wont notice. The game looks and plays too good to complain. The story is deep and lost me on a couple occassions, still this made me want to replay those levels. No matter what your reason, you will want to revisit this game even after beating it quickly the first go around. Xbox shooter fans, do yourselves a favor and buy this game. It is one heck of an experience offering some of the best graphics, rag-doll physics, and gameplay around. Highly recommended.

Well, they are successfully mimicking Hollywood...

...by producing dull paint-by-numbers sequels. The original Max Payne was inventive (with its bullet-time interludes and playable nightmare sequences) and moody (pulp comic storytelling and Noir York backdrops), and held my attention despite some pretty serious gameplay and difficulty balance flaws. Unfortunately Max Payne 2 has retained the flaws and added nothing new to the experience.

MP2 is still too easy with Bullet Time assistance, far too many health and ammo powerups, and an overall simple level of play. I'm just an average shooter player, but I breezed through it in a few hours. And maybe due to less inspired level structure than the first (warehouses...ughh), it felt shorter. The complex time-warped romance of MP2 is disorienting and silly, and by the halfway point I had been jerked around by so many false flashbacks and faked death scenes that I really couldn't care less if Mona lived or died.

Yes, the graphics are nice and the storyboarding and character expressions are more realistic, but it will take more depth and innovation to hold my interest in the Max Payne series.

Max Payne 2 is awesome but...

This game kept me occupied for quite a few weekends. The graphics were stunning, the story was awesome, and the fights reminded me of scenes from the original Matrix film.

I do, however, have a few complaints:
a) the AI is sometimes a bit messy
b) it was way too short compared to the original Max Payne, and while the story did have some undertones carried over from the original Max Payne, it was a huge departation from the first Max Payne
c) the secret ending wasn't as incredible as i thought it would be

Fantastic

If you have played the orginal Max Payne then you know how good the first game was and Max Payne 2 is no different. The Game contains the same comic cut scenes but Max's Film Noir narration has been toned down a little (or maybe Im just use to it by now.) Like the original, the opening scene to MP2 is not in the begining of the game but in the middle. If you have not played the original I suggest you get a copy and play that first because MP2 picks up right where you left off so it assumes you know who and what has been going on. The Graphics are improved dramatically now object in the enviroments react to getting shot or pushed, and bodies fly around like rag dolls when there is and expolsion near by. The Charecters are less pixalated and have more sharper faces, their mouths move too (i.e. no more "Mr. Poopy face") Max seems to have aged a lot more, he looks more classic detective then Gen-X like he did in the first game.

My only real gripe is that the story was too short and it leaves you wanting more, but I highly doubt their will be a Max Payne 3.

I also must warn you: The Playstation 2 version of MP2 is horrible, the poor little machine just can't do it justice, it has choppy framerates and LONG loading times. So get it for PC or Xbox, if you have no other choice you can still get it for PS2.
This Game is MATURE, and not just with violence, there is sex, and INTENSE language (Vinnie Gognittie's new favorite word is: F***). Leave the kiddies in their rooms for this one.

All in all this game is one of the best I have ever played next to the first one.
