Interesting - I'd buy it again, but no surprises

I think Diablo and Diablo II are two of the all-time best games ever to be made. The expansion is good, but there's not a lot there to get excited about. I'd still buy the game, but only rate it 3 stars. I did have some trouble when I first installed it. You must beat Diablo again to access the new act and the Diablo act would not run at full frame speed although the rest of the game does. This was a very annoying and discouraging first look at the expansion. Does anyone know why the Blizzard programmers wasted time with the online gem activation thing instead of game stability? If you're planning on re-visiting Battlenet with the expansion, you might not bother - it's still very unreliable and you get kicked out of online games routinely.

the greatest game ever made

If you've never played a little game called Diablo II, then you are cheating yourself out of the greatest gameplay experience in the world.

When I first started playing this game, I just had Diablo II, because the expansion hadn't come out yet. In fact I had been playing atleast a year and a half by the time Lord of Destruction emerges. And in that time I had had the greatest experience in my life.

At first I was just a lowely Barbarian, who wore a loin-cloth and hit monsters with my crappy axe. But countless hours of online and offline play later, I was a badass looking barbarian with a thirst for blood. And the online gaming is really where this game shines. For one thing, Battle.net is free. And another thing is that people don't just play this game online, they live it. If my computer hadn't been total crap and stopped working, and I hadn't had to do other things, like go to work and try to maintain a relationship with actual people that I could touch and smell, then I would be going on my fourth year of playing this game. But now that I have recently gotten back online and into the new wave of gamers, I am now, once again, completely addicted.

And when I say new wave of gamers, that's exactly what I mean. Recently I was down at my local EB Games to pick up some games when I got into a conversation with the clerk there about Diablo II. And for the first once, somebody actually knew where I was coming from. You see, he had also played back in the old days before the expansion came out, and also noticed a difference in today's gamers.

For one thing, people nowadays want something from you, even if you have nothing. For example, I was playing with my level 64 sorceress and I was searching all over the active channels looking for an item called a Lum Rune. Finally, I came across a room with a lvl. 83 amazon who, when asked, told me she had three Lum Runes. After seeing that I had nothing she wanted, she told me off and left the room. I mean, come on! Be nice, she had three and I had none. She was like close to 30 levels ahead of me and couldn't spare to drop one of them. Back in the day, people would make rooms just to drop things for free. Of course back then almost everybody who was cool was a hacked character. And things like elixers and the Jamella editor still existed. Nowadays, people think being hacked means to have your stuff stolen. No kids, that is getting screwed. Getting hacked means you have acquired items from the games mainframe and are using them even though you aren't really supposed to for another 50 levels. Being hacked meant you had everything you wanted and nobody was the wiser.

But anyway, about the expansion. It introduces two new character classes, the Druid and the Assassin. Making the total amount of playable characters seven (including the last game's Barbarian, Paladin, Necromancer, Sorceress, and Amazon). Both of which are pretty cool characters. Anyway, the game's praphics got touched up a bit, they are still sprites, but they fit the game perfectly.

I guess the one good thing about not having hacked cheater characters in the new version is you don't have to worry about anyone being invincible when you're dueling them (hacked characters tended to have something like 10 million hit points while the average player had less than a thousand). So if you like your social life, steer clear of this drug, because once you're in, there's no telling when anybody will see you again.

Totally ruined the whole game...

I loved Diablo 2 classic, but I wished I never bought this, it totally ruined it for me. After seeing all the cool items for LOD, I had to have it. Come on, the Windforce at 500 damage, who couldn't resist it? Well, after playing this game for half a year, I'm done with it. The price, at $30, for just an expansion is WAY too pricey. And what expansion? Two "new" characters and ONE extra act. The druid and assassin are just another version of the necromancer and the amazon. When you play this, be warned, you'll encounter a lot of hackers online. They'll steal your accounts and whatnot. No, it hasn't happened to me, but it has happened to several people I know. Talking about hacking, there's a lot of "duped" items might I add. And LOD takes the fun away from the game because now, you'll see "newbs" at lvl 80+! I mean, I can make a character and have him at lvl 99 in 2 days! And it looks like everyone bought items from ebay, because more then half of the amazon's in LOD have the windforce. In classic diablo 2, everything was more balanced out, people had a chance, but with LOD, if you're not a sorceress or an amazon, you're out of luck. You won't stand a chance. There's no variety in this game once you get LOD. I suggest you save your money for a new game. Unless you desperately want to see idiots run around with items they bought from ebay, people hacking others for items (pathetic), the same game with literally nothing new and wasting money, then go ahead and get it, otherwise, look somewhere else.

One of the best games ever.

This game is amazing. It's the kind of game where I figure I'll take an hour break from my piles of homework to play it and end up playing it for 4 hours by mistake. It's very fun, let's just hope the Lord of Destruction doesn't stop me from graduating.

I think this game rocks because I like strategy and action games like this one. I recomend this game to everyone to buy it. At first I didn't like it, but after you play it a couple times it gets a little adicting meaning it makes you play it alot. I think the expansion pack is going to be really good and I can't wait till it comes out!!!!!!!!!!

The "gateway" to RPG addiction

First off, let me get one thing straight:

DIABLO II is NOT AN RPG!!! It is an Action/Adventure game with "RPG Elements".

However, this in no way decreases the fun/involving/depth factor of Diablo II. But still, it does somewhat decrease the options/possibilities of the Diabo II game. For example, to all you girls/women that play Diablo II, don't you wish you could have a FEMALE necromancer/druid/barbarian/paladin? And all you guys/men, don't you wish you could have a MALE sorcerer/assassin (NOTE: male Amazons are sort of an oxymoron, sorry). Second, don't you wish you play through Diablo II as an elf, or a dwarf? Also, in games such as Dungeons & Dragons, you can do things such as thieving from merchants, killing party members (I know most wouldn't, but the point is that you can), etc. My point is that Diablo II is not an RPG (hey Amazon.com, you should read this).

Now, don't get me wrong, Diablo II is an extremely fun and addictive game, and I have spent many hours playing it. But it simply lacks the possibilities of a "true" RPG. And I understand that seeing the scenarios in Diablo II come to life on your monitor is one EXTREMELY enticing feature. But, if you're drawn by the "visual fctor" of these games, and have finished Diablo, Diablo II, and Diablo II: LoD, try some games such as Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Dungeon Siege. These games are extremely similar to the Diablo series, but are based on D&D and have extremeley more possibilities than Diablo II does. One thing that I must accredit the Diablo series with, however, is it's ease of use, and extreme addictiveness that serves as a "gateway" to true RPGs for those who come out of their adventures wanting more. Somewhat like a certain plant to a certain bad type of addiction.

In conclusion to my review, this game is f**king awesome, but it left me wanting more, and I got that from D&D/D&D based PC games (RPGs). So, for the deeper adventurers, go to D&D for the real thing.

Best Game Ever!

This game is better than Diablo 2. Much better. Although you might think 'oh, it's just one act and two new characters,' that makes all the difference. This game, with Act 5, Baal, The Assasian and the Druid, can take over any other computer game by far. A great accomplishment for Blizzard.

Breathes new life into Diablo 2

This expansion adds tremendous new life to Diablo 2 in the form of new items, runes and characters. My favorite new feature is the abilty to kepe your hirelings throught the act and give the weapons and armor as well. They have also upgrade dthe resolution so that you can now play the game in 800x600. If your on the fence about getting this expansion pack then my suggestion to you is to go out and buy it now you will not be dissapointed.

This game online is toooo addictive

I bought this game because a few friends said it was excellent. I didn't actually like games like this before and the only RPGs i loved were the Zelda games. But this game is so addictive it doesn't matter what genre you are into at all. It is one of the largest games out there with thousands of different items to collect which is the best and most addictive concept of this agme and many levels to fight the minions of hell in. This game is not special in 1 player mode and it really shines in the online battle.net option. The 1 player mode should be used as tarining to get used to the game before taking on the challenge of batlle.net gaming. There are 7 characters who all play completely different and each character can built into various different hero types such as a spear wielding amazon and an archer amazon. Once you get into the online community and join a "clan" or play with a few people you meet this game will take overr your life. The feeling of building an empire of strong characters and valuable items is just indescribable and will keep you glued to the game for months and months. I played it non-stop for 5 months and at last i had enough. For it's price this game is such a bargain. The original and the expansion costs as much as one console game. The only let-down maybe after months of this game you think to yourself you played this too mcuh and now none of your achievements matter....BUT BUY THIS FOR ONE OF THE MOST INVOLVING GAM EXPERIENCES AROUND

Great addon for a great game

This addon completes the quest and takes care of all three evils.
It also greatly increases the customizability of equipment and jewels & stones. Adding equipment for all levels of characters and types of characters. It also adds two new kinds of characters. Blizzard did an exelent job improving and expanding Diablo II in this expansion.
