I got REAL sick of the players and reviewers that complained about the ending. It was pretty good and NOBODY figured it out. All the liars that said they figured it out are simply...liars. The gameplay was beefed up and the characters once again shined. Nuff said

WOO HOO!!!

... The previous metal gear for the ps1 was near perfect. The new one improves the old title. For one, it's on ps2 so the graphic possiblities automatically increase. And mgs2 doesn't let you down there. There's also a big jump in story.
Translation: MG1 = so so Mgs2 = Off the hook.
The big disappointment is the fact that this game is a clone of the first one. You basically have missions split up into different rooms/floors/areas where you have to utilize items like sniper rifles and your.... Controls are difficult, but if you played the first one you're already a pro.

Overall, this is probably in my top 10 favorite games of all time. BUY ME.. BUY ME.. but don't buy the first one. If you can own this one you're all set. If you already own the first one.. or rented to beat it, still go out and get mgs2 the advancement in graphics and story will be enough for you.

Easily the best PS2 game of all time!

This game is amazing every detail from its deep rich story, to awesome graphics and gameplay. If you like action, adventure, suspense, gripping and ivolving story and gameplay then you'll love this. After the game, you'll be saying: "Raiden deserves a sequel!"

This is what games can do.

Remember back when 8-bit Nintendo was the system to have? Remember a little ol' game called Metal Gear? At the time it was the only game of its kind. Rather than funning for your enemies Conta-style, it required the gamer to be just a tad bit sneaky.

A couple of years back, Metal Gear Solid was hailed as the BEST game that the PS One had to offer. It totally pushed the limits of the box with its unbelievable realism and graphics. Now that it has evolved into the 128-version, the results are ablsolutely stunning.

Not only is this the most realistic game on the market, it is reason enough to own a PS2. This game plays more like you're watching a Ridley Scott or Jerry Bruckheimer flick rather than playing a little ol game. The story is top-notch, your arsenal is a force to be reckoned with, and the music rocks. Oh yeah, the score was actually done by the same guy who scored music for Armageddon and The Rock. The graphics? Well, .....just buy the game. I don't know how they did it. Once again, I'm completely blown away, courtesy of the group at Konami.

Just Awesome. That's all I got to say.

The best PS2 game? No. A great game? Yes.

Those who are familiar with Metal Gear Solid series have come to expect games that challenge your mind and kick your adrenaline into overdrive. And the sequel "Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty" is no acception to the rule.

This high intensity espionage thriller puts you in the familiar shoes of Solid Snake and later on a newer agent, Raiden. The learning curve isn't a chore, but don't expect to pick up and play right away. Such moves as robbing an enemy guard of his tags or breaking his neck take time and practice. The storyline itself is compelling and will actually have you incredibly interested. I'll keep this short. The United States Marines are now harnessing the Metal Gear technology to build their own super weapon. While transporting the new Metal Gear on a ship through New York harbor the Marines fall under attack from Russian terrorists. Soon they overrun the ship, all while you as Snake witness it happen. Anyways, for the sake of those who haven't played this game as of yet I wont reveal any more.

The gameplay itself is like I said, pretty easy to learn but alot harder to master. The arsenal you are able to harness ranges from 9mm pistols all the way M4 Carbine machine guns. As you stealthily sneak around attempting to complete your mission objectives you'll notice the lush graphics. What I found most impressive presentation wise was how the designers paid attention to even the littlest details. Case and point is when you shoot a bucket of ice cubes, not only do they all fall out in different shapes, but melt at different times instead of simultaneously. I never experienced any slowdown from start to finish, this was very impressive.

Fans of the series will not be let down by the second installation, it has all the great features of the orignal and then some. A great storyline, intensity, good graphics, fun to play and addictive, what more could you ask from a console game? If you own a Playstation 2 console I highly recommend adding "Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty" to your library of games, you wont regret it.

One of the best games ever made!

This game is second only to Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, the updated version. I do not own this game, but I have played rentals. It is difficult, but not boring or repetitive. It has a plot reminiscent of the first game, but is not predictable in the least. The first person view mode is the best aspect of the game, other than the smooth graphics, the ability to jump across holes in the floor, and not to mention that you can take enemy guards "hostage" and make them give you items. You can even shoot a guards radio before he can raise the alarm! I believe this is a must have for anyone who likes shooters, strategy, tense situations, or just plain fun.

THE BIGGEST DISSAPOINTMENT EVER

I gave it a one star because I was a MGS fan(the biggest ever beleive me) , and I am very disappointed about this game. I Mean i loved the first game i played it 100+ hourse beat it a number of times and liked it so much. MGS2 you dont be snake. And the end you wait for the big ending you say now i know whats gunna happen then BOOM it ends and the whole game is pointless. If you never played MGS then you may like it but if you were hooked on the first, give it a rest. I was dissapointed after waiting 2 years. All the screans of snake you see in the first 2 minutes of the game btw.

Don't believe the naysayers!!!!

Ok, so if you're looking for full-out non-stop gaming, then perhaps this isn't one for you. But if you like a terrific, intelligent story line, that doesn't talk down to you, or some nihilistic Japanese folk lore poorly translated to terrible American English. The story is rich, full of plot twists, intrigue, surprises and conspiracy theories dealing with mind control, cencorship, intellectual property rights, etc. The cutscenes, while sometimes a little long and overly verbose, do add to the mystery of what is going on. At some points the story gets actually creepy and it's difficult telling what will happen next.

The gameplay is typical Metal Gear fare, with great stealth objectives and just enough action to keep you interested.

This is the first console game that I truly enjoyed both the story AND the gaming. A sweet combo. This is a movie unfolding before you, in which you play a part. It's modelled terrifically, with gorgeous 3D environments, and great graphics. The special effects are awesome. Throw in some humour and you have a winner.

Perhaps this is too advanced for the underage crowd to fully appreciate, but in my opinion, MGS2 is a cinematic and gaming masterpiece. I can't wait for the sequel they left this game wide open for.

Bad Movie

If you like Japanese Anime, get this game, because it is an interactive movie, and not a very good one at that. The plot, I mean plots, were laughable at best, and had more twists than a corkscrew. It became harder to watch every seven minutes of game play, not to mention the asexual hero arguing with the girlfriend. I wasn't to sure the hero was a man. Neither was the president, until he grabed his package. Things like that, and the girl peeing herself turned this from bad to weird. Oh! and I havn't even mentioned the girl Emma's sexual attraction to her step brother at the time he was sleeping with her mother, which caused his father to kill himself. I have never been so let down with the hype and profesional reviews. The trailers and demos were very misleading. The only reason I gave it one star, was because the first hour of gameplay was good when you wern't watching a ten to fifteen minute cutscene. At best this is an overhyped movie er' game, at worst it is a perverted commercial spot for a certain magazine and toy company who shall remain nameless.
