Back to the roots..

Finally, we're back out of the pseudo techno wonders of 7 and 8, and back to the basics which we all grew to love in earlier final fantasies. Not to say I didnt enjoy 7 && 8. However, it's refreshing to see this masterpiece out. Being the final Final Fantasy for the PSX, Square has outdone themselves with this game. Easily addictive, and loads of fun. All I can say is: five stars.

Well I must say I had my expectations too high for this one. In games like FF8 you are pumped and excited right from the opening. This one takes awhile to get going and once it does it is very enjoyable. The story is good, but nothing along the lines of Chrono Cross. The battle systems is very familiar from past Fantasies but again, Chrono Cross's was more involving. Now the ATB bar takes almost twice as long to charge. Be sure to buy a lot of poitions! I love this game to death, but to put it in perspective...I liked Final Fantasy 8 a lot better. Partly becasue the swords and sorcery was never my thing. Do not let that turn you off to this game because it truley is a great game.

I bought this game at 3:00p.m. central standard time, I went to sleep at 2:00a.m. central standard time. Not much more needs to be said, except this game is the best of the series by far. The graphics and gameplay are unmatched. If you're a fan, even if you're not, play this game and you will be.

A nostalgic & enjoyable RPG!

Final Fantasy IX is an engrossing and captivating RPG. The game takes place in a magical, fantasy-based setting rather than the more high-technology settings of FFVII & FFVIII. This is one of the most technically and emotionally developed video games out there. There is so much value in the plots, concepts and ideas. All the issues that the characters are forced to face - from self-worth to love - is done in an understandable, intelligent, and touching way.

Gameplay for Final Fantasy IX is basically like the others in the series. I'm glad that the simple equip system is back. One problem with Final Fantasy VIII was the complex magic junction system. This was a confusing aspect to the Final Fantasy VIII, and it distracted me from that game's beauty. Fortunately, that has changed in Final Fantasy IX. Like older Final Fantasy titles, there are 4 characters in your party instead of 3. The Limit System is now called the "Trance System." Characters can be appointed certian gained abilities in the form of a Crystal System.

One of the most astonishing aspects of Final Fantasy IX has GOT to be graphics. Most of the scenes and settings are prerendered. The attention to details, as far as animations are concerned, are awesome. This whole game is colorful, beautiful, and breathtaking. As far as the CG sequences are concerned, it transcends any other game that I've ever seen. It has to be seen to be believed! All the CG scenes are beautiful! The graphics are excellent; lots of eye-candy!

The music and sound is another great aspect of this game. The music in any and all Final Fantasy games are so emotional and atmospheric. With Final Fintasy IX, not only is the sound great, but with remixed music, it even brings back so much nostalgia from the Super Nintendo Final Fantasies. I really like that! The music in this game is really moving.

Overall, I thought Final Fantasy IX was really enjoyable. It's a great RPG.

A return to greatness

Final Fantasy IX is here, and all that is old is new again. Square's developers have once again outdone themselves as far as technical execution and visual artistry, building a fantasy world that I could be content to simply stare at, remembering years past when all these things struck an internal chord for the first time and wondering how a game console could hold images this beautiful. This installment of the series has perhaps been the most anticipated among die-hard fans of the series, signalling as it does a brief return to some of the visual designs, gameplay elements and overall spirit of the FFs we grew up on, and they won't be disappointed in the slightest. In that regard, this game combines the finest of the past and present, the fantastic themes of the classic games brought to life by the technology of the PlayStation. In terms of its gameplay and structure, Final Fantasy may be showing its age, or perhaps more precisely a lack of evolution to suit that age, but the series' trademark formula has hooked fans on three generations of consoles now, and it looks prepped and ready to conquer a fourth in short order.

This is by far the best final fantasy game made! It is going back to old school fantasy, semi-comical characters, magic, weapons, and everything! Play control is great, music is traditional final fantasy and the story line is outstanding and the actual graphic scenes are totally amazing. I was a fanatic for final fantasy 7 but this one is by far the best one made. Don't pass this one up, this is a MUST own for ANYBODY...even if you do not like RPG's this is a must try.

Square has done it again! They never cease to amaze me. I have been a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series, and it keeps getting better. In this, the "final" installment on the playstation console, Square has gone out with a bang! The graphics are the best I have seen on the playstation...proving that the developers and game designers are still pushing the envelope and trying to deliver a quality product. The game-play and depth of the game are awesome and engrossing. From the first opening scenes you are pulled in and carried along on one fantastic ride! Fans of the Final Fantasy series will love the "old school" elements, as well as some brought over from FF7 and FF8. Those not familiar with the genre or series will have no difficulty jumping on and learning from scratch...everything from the online stratgey guide to the in-game help will allow players of any ability to enjoy the game and its many surprises. This game is great and belongs in the game library of EVERY playstation and PS2 owner out there. Buy this game and prepare for many sleepless nights trying to save the world.

Great Expectations

Being an avid Final Fantasy fan, I bought Final Fantasy IX as soon as it hit stores in the U.S. About an hour into the game, I was as confused as when I turned the game on. I missed the character development and the sheer intensity which F.F VII and VIII started off with. I felt that the beginning premise of the game was weak, and therefore I wasn't drawn into the game in the same way. While IX has impressive movies, I feel that the storyline was sorely lacking. All the hype lead me to expect great things, but all I found was a big letdown.

WOW, awesome game!

Wow, this is an AWESOME game folks. I highly reccomend it, it is fun for veterans and rookies alike. If you love the series you'll love this game. If you haven't even heard of the series, where have you been, under a rock? Even if you have, you'll love this game! Now hurry up and go buy it! This price is 5 bucks higher than stores (because of shipping), so you might want to buy it at a store.
