Hard, But Worth The Time

I haven't finished this game yet, but I love it anyway. If you like other Final Fantasy games beware that this game is very different. It's a whole new battle system that involves a lot of moving around and a lot of outside levelling up. This game is very hard, but the story and the characters are great and it's worth all the extra time you spend replaying battles when you lose. Strategy is very important. If you like a challenge, you'll love FFT.

Great game

Final Fantasy Tactics is one of my favorite games-no doubt. It's a wonderful game. I've beaten this game a couple of times and it's sad when the game is over beacause it's a really good game.
Although it's right behind my favorite game Final Fantasy Ix, I have to give it a five star.

Addictive

This is my favorite video game ever. the graphics are ok, the story is sort of hard to follow, the main character is very exciting and its hard to ever get attached to any character except ramza. This said, it's still the best game. The battle system is like chess meets a rpg. From the summons to the spears, everything about this game makes you want to statagize and plan and just generaly validate its title. Buy this game is you enjoy strategy and medival combat. or if your bored. either way.

Brilliant, BRILLIANT game!!!!

Some people accuse Square for trying to make more and more money off FF with this title. Well.... so that's what they wanted to do! They ARE running a business, ya know! What I love about Square is that they always manage to do it RIGHT.

The game's Job System is unbelievably usable and flexible. the combinations you can create with this system are almost limitless, considering you have 5 ability slots, and each one is designated for a different ability type (attack, movement, secondary attack, battle support, and reaction abilities.).

The story - well known for it's truly [awful] translation. Don't let that fool you though!! They translated the story completely and nothing is censored out. So don't even fret about that. To be honest, they pretty much had some *very* bad grammar in some areas, and had a few misspellings. And their extreme overuse of quotation marks is abominable.

Okay, back to the good stuff. This game is not designed for everybody. It's very difficult and geared toward advanced gamers looking for a gameplay challenge. Note the keyword "gameplay". This game is NOT an interactive movie... Remember in the past FF games how tedious the random battles became? You dreaded moving along the map, wondering when the next battle would use up even more of your time.

Well, the battles are the very essence of this game. Without the battles, you'd have a very [bad] movie with no action (the plot is centered to require the battles), and pieces of the story missing, since a lot of plot scenes occur in mid-battle.

All in all, not exactly something you'd get for your 8 year old son (please don't do that - because he won't play it, unless he's some kind of prodigy). For gamers who are tired of games that get old, linear, and tedious, LOOK NO FURTHER!!!!

A game that suffers from its series

I think if this game didn't bear the name Final Fantasy it would be remembered as the masterpiece it is, and not as a diappointment. The game is an innovation. It can be frustrating when your spells don't hit or your potion is off target at the right time, but even that adds something to the game. Th graphics are rudimentary, but the don't need to be flashy. Flashy graphics would probably have interupted the flow of the game. I would suggest this game for people with a bit of a patience and a lot of time.

The best Final Fantasy of all time

I would like to say that this game doesn't get its credit due. Tactics is the absolute best game ever!... The characterization in the game is exquisite. the music is down right mood-setting. The Gameplay is perfect. It actuall puts you in medival times. Ramza is a great hero torn between his duty, and honor as a squire/knight, and his traitorous family. The people that help you along the way are also very powerful in thier own right, but Building up Ramza is the best part of the game. Especially after you equip him with the Excalibur sowrd of Orlandu's... Get the game today, it is great.

You will not tire of this game

FFT is not your traditional FF game. The story is unusual, but still attractive. There's a certain satisfaction following through on the plot. However, the gem of this game is the amazing depth in the gameplay. There are a myriad of job classes that you can train under, and each job confers certain benefits, and the game becomes much more about management of your party than simply random battles. The initial learning curve is a little steep, but after I won the game the first time, I've played it again numerous times, each time working on a different party strategy, trying to maximize certain skills or utilizing certain maneuvers. It helps that the battles require a bit of strategy. The gameplay is very much tactical, and it is very much mentally engaging.

In short, if you like this game, you will end up loving it, because it never is tiresome. Every time you play, there's something different to manage, and you can create parties that are entirely different. And every battle is fun, because you have to use your brain. The beauty of this game is that it is so engaging that it is difficult to be bored.

First i just gotta say this is a great final fantasy game i first played it in 1999 and a month after i rented i went back to rent it again but they didn't have i looked everywhere for it but in 2001 i found it ...i bought it went home and played it the farthest i have gotten in the game is when you battle elmdor on the roof of this bulding in Chapter 3,it is a great game the story line is very interesting the only bad thing about it is that you can only control your charecters in battle but so what this game is great get it if you find no matter how much it is ...

The battles are fun and engrossing (even if the characters are chibified). Yet, while itýs fun, I have a knack for dying. I try to get my characters medical aid, but they usually croak before I can get my chemist to them. Oh wellý
Itýs a great game, and I recommend it to anyone who likes RPGs like Mage Knight.
