Not as good as the original

This game had excellent graphics for its time and is a pretty solid buy... maybe. If you can find a way to ignore the abysmal control, you will most likely enjoy it. Other than that, don't even think about it.

PE2 is much better than the sluggish PE

People have have ranted and raved that the first Parasite Eve is much better than the second. They are extremely wrong. I can go on for hours listing what makes the second better than the first but I'll list key differences:

There are no "days" in the second thank god, It gets to be a pain where your playing and you get near the end and then the next "day" comes out. It is very distracting.

When your facing a monster you just shoot and reload like in the second, while you have to wait till your bar is filled up in the first. When your in the heat of a battle, you don't want to wait to have your bar filled up just to be able to shoot, use a PE, or use an item.

The monsters are comic-like in the first, but in the second they are actually creepy and weird.

Everybody says that the radar in the second is painfully annoying, but I would not only like to see the monsters, but see where they're at also so I dont run into them by surprise like the first.

The story is also a huge difference between the two. Inthe first you keep returning to the station, musuem, etc. Parasite Eve 2 might do this for a little bit but it's refreshing to be in NEW ENVIRONMENTS. I swear in the first it gets boring really quick minus the other flaws.

Weapons are another huge difference. In the second, weapons are original and can for certain weapons can have attachments. In the first there are very similiar guns you use all the time.

Ok for creepiness, they are close, but the only thing keeping the first close to the second is EVE herself. After that, the second is ten times more creepy.

All in all I give PE2 5/5 stars

PE is a lousy 2/5 stars

Oh and all Final Fantasy's are stupid and should be terminated.
Peace!

Entertaining, but doesn't connect to the first game

Parasite Eve II is a game that I'll NEVER sell. It's one of my many classics I have in my PSone game collection. It may not be as good as the first but I still find it fun and entertaining.

The game starts 3 years after the Manhattan blockade incident. You play as Aya Brea, who has just transferred from the NYPD to the FBI-MIST unit in Los Angeles. MIST is a special police force dedicated to hunting down NMC's and preventing them from spreading. When she's just about to turn in for the night, her partner, Pierce, informs her of strange activity going on in Downtown Los Angeles. When she gets to the Akropolis Tower, she finds weird, deformed creatures and must find out what they're doing there.

I did enjoy this game, even though there's not many connections to the first game. I really like the weapons (especially the bonus weapons) and the Parasite Energy attacks. 3 different endings and 4 additional game modes make you want to play this game forever and there are a few cool plot twists. For me, I was a bit disappointed in the storyline but I enjoyed the game overall. Play it for yourself and see how you like it.

-thumbs up-

I used to rent this game a lot when I was younger. I can't remember why I didn't just buy myself a copy, and I also can't remember why I stopped renting it. There was probably a part that I couldn't get past and I lost my patience with it or something. Either way, it was a fun game to play back in the day.

Bear the patience for an "annoying" survival horror.

Parasite Eve II took longer localisation than other Square titles like "Vagrant Story" and "Chrono Cross",yet the title is a great dissapointment as if it takes only some few months for the process.I'll brief on pros and bummers on this title

Pros: -Sharp pre-rendered backgrounds(like RE) -Some of the most memorable stunning FMVs(sorry,Aya's not completely nude, guys!) -lots of weapons -replayability last longer

Bummers: -Freakish controls -Storage system annoying unlike RE.Expect loads of repetitive trips to load/unload items and buy weapons -FMVs too little, not memorable as PE I -boring music score -[poor]translation(please,Square,not on FFIX! )

That is all of my brief review.Overall, not much to expect of this title, expect it like a B-graded game.

Nag, Nag, Nag, just play the game.

.... If you`ve ever, EVER played resident evil, you know what you`re getting into. The controls are very similiar. It takes five minutes to learn. The only hard part is the square and R1 switch. So you draw your gun with square and fire with R1. Big deal. It`s not that hard to learn.

The games plot rules, directly tied into the ingenious mitochondria idea. Anyone can quickly figure out the cells functions, and it ties directly into the game. The animation is flawless, no complaints, many compliments. The game itself is quite difficult too, but in a good way. In most other games, you die hardly ever. You would be fighting the Neo-Super-Ultra-Mega-Reviving-Killing-Mutant-Bust-Through-A-Wall-To-Kill-You-Boss, and that trusty Rocket Launcher would take it right down wouldn`t it. Not in this game pal. You get no such rocket launcher. All the guns in the game are certainly powerful, but no gun in this game takes a boss down in a shot. Maybe it could be strong, but no 1 shots in this game. Unless you play through multiple times to get the ultimate weapon, (Which I will not disclose, no, it`s not the Rocket Launcher, thank god). But by the time you get that you might as well be taking on the last boss with a bayonet anyway. Ammo is EXTREMELY plentiful, which is good because you can now use that shotgun rather than saying, I`ll use the mag on the boss and the handgun on enemies, and the shotgun collects dust.

The game didn`t quite score a five because of the few traits which run along with any other survival horror games, namely resident evil. The big mutating monsters are cool, but you can only take so much people. The trademark sign of the Magnum, and the grenade launcher have seem to have become a symbol in these games. The rating system at the end with A, B, and S rating are just overdone. But these are minor flaws. The one major flaw in my opinion is the "Attaching system" where you attach items to your armor to use them in battle. It becomes bothersome in long boss battles to have to sacrifice a crucial restoration item, just so you can switch your gun or its ammo.

To sum it up, the games worth a good hard look. I advise either buying it on sight, or it`s even better if you can rent or try it out first. The game has definite long night hours in it. You won`t put it down for a while. If you do buy it, good for you, but if you don`t, at least play it once. P.S. Remember to save EVERYWHERE, you`ll thank me.

Why did they mess up a good thing?

In the first Parasite Eve the fighting system was wonderful and easy to get the hang of, though still challenging. While this second edition to the series had an equally superb plot, cut scenes, and game play, the fights in this game ruin just about every moment. Instead of enjoying the game for the beauty of what it was, most of my time was yelling strings of bad language at the television screen as I died for the fifth time because of the bad controls and hard to handle fighting. Sometimes there is such a thing as leaving well enough alone, and that's what they should have done with their first fighting system and controls.

wow, PSX's standards were just lowered

OK, I dont even know where to start with this game. I guess i'll start with the "pro's" since it'll be such a small list.

Pro's: This game has an incredible storyline, one of the best I've ever seen or played. Although not very realistic, it keeps you stuck to your seat, which is normally good, but in this game, your trying to get out of your seat. the CG's in here are nice, although very few of them. The background graphics are probably the only thing that was the better than any game i've ever seen. Well, those are the pro's, now for the con's... this is gonna be long...

Con's: First off, the character graphics are horrible. They display no emotion, not even close to human physics movement. There are no voices, not one, during your entire playing experience. The battle system is horrible, as the enemies become extremely strong, and they can come in groups, which make the chances of winning even harder. Plus, when you start a battle, you fight exactly where you stand, so if your in a tiny corridor when you begin your fight, you'll be in that tiny corridor. At first, this may seem cool, but when you get trapped in a corner with a ... pistol, and two huge monsters are whackin you upside the head, it becomes clear real fast that fighting in the same area, and not goin to a separate fighting field like most RPG's is not in your favor. The normal screen, when your just walking around, and even fighting is horrible, as there are pre-set camera angles that can't be cahnged, most of the time the camera angle is pointed at you, so it gives the game a more "movie like" experiance, even in battle, it'll be like this. So many times you have no clue where you're going, and when your fighting, you have no clue what your shooting, as the enemy is always ahead of you, and you canrarely see ahead of you. See my point? The invntory screen was made amazoingly bad, as you will spend an enormous amount of time trying to navigate around the menu, just putting things in the right order. Also, there is no character leveling up. So I don't even know why they call it an RPG. There are very few cinematics, and the cinematics are very short. How did this game become known as the, "Cinematic RPG" in the forst place? The bosses are either extremely easy, or terrifyingly hard. as many times, if you get hit once or twice, you'll die. The game is also one of those, "Run to the end of the map, grab an item, then run all the way back to the beginning, just to grab aother item, then do it all over again.. and again... The game is also very short, as I beat it in eleven hours.

Overall, this is how i put it to my firend. The game is so horribly made, so stupidly put together, that you want to burn it or something. Yet the storyline is so good, so grabbing, that I ended having to play such a horrible game just so I could see what happened. When I finally beat it, I was thankful that I knew the storylinecould say that I beat it, and never had to look ator think about that horrible game ever again... Ahhh bliss....

Where's the ZERO STARS option? same title; Different Game!

Parasite Eve 1 was beautiful. It had the feel of Resident Evil (creepy music, dead bodies thrown everywhere), but with the turn-based battle system of a Final Fantasy game = FUN. PARASITE EVE 2 is *nothing* like that. It's no longer an RPG, so it's no longer fun. It's just another hack-n-slash lamer game. In other words, button-smashing. What fun is that? None at all. The beauty of RPGs and PE1 is that you use your brain to defeat the monsters... and Square took away that beauty in the sequel. Sad.

A severe dissapointment from the original

Let me start with this. I bought a playstation, a memory card, and the game JUST to play Parasite Eve I. (1, not 2.) I had played it at my friends house and become totally wrapped up in the beautiful, amazing storyline when she moved to another state, taking my progress and everything else with her. I only had a N64. It took me no time to consider; I immediately ran out and bought the game.

I love Parasite Eve I. It's the most unique, beautiful, fantastic, depressing, amazing game I have EVER seen. Close to the 4th day, the characters are rubbing off on you, and you really feel close to them, as though you were actually Aya. There are a few times where you get in a laugh or two due to what's being said, I.E.: (small spoiler) "Is he really a policeman?" "If you mean, have we scientificly proven it, no." It's just an amazing game! I could go on for hours about it!

But. I bought PE 2 soon after I got PE I, because of course, I wanted the sequel. I expected more of what I had loved in the first- I'd already seen pictures and information, but figured that it could only get better. I was wrong. The game's CG movie graphics have become better. But, there is a huge difference. In PE I, you start off the game by having several movies lead in past the statue of liberty (beautifully done) and down to the theater, where we meet Aya and her "boyfriend", about to go into the opera. In PE 2, we hear her talk about what she's been doing over the years, and see a flashback while she shoots things in the shooting gallery. Okay. This is my opinion, so don't kill me for it. I have the gameplay system. The shooting is obnoxious, you can waste a million bullets on something because they're just barely out of range. If you have 2,000 bullets in your pack, but not in your pockets, you CAN'T RELOAD. This absolutely kills me in boss battles. And the first real boss battle wtih that ugly-faced dude with all the "mystery" behind him is so obnoxious! He's laughing and snarling through-out the whole battle, in this really stupid way. In PE I, you battle with a preeeeeeetttyyy evil chick, who's singing OPERA through the whole thing! Get the difference?! the PE powers bite. What the heck happened to liberate?! What's aya's excuse for forgetting LIBERATE?! Anyway, if you like games where you wander around, shooting REALLY ugly monsters and people, go on ahead and play this game. I own it, but haven't played it since I hit the desert, because I became so bored with the storyline. Oooh, wow, a crying girl in the bathroom. Oh, gee, she turned into a monster. BIG SURPRISE.
