What was Squaresoft thinking?

When I played the first Parasite Eve, I couldn't wait for the sequel. When it came out, I ran out and got it right away. I got home and put it in my Playstation. I loved the graphics, but why did Aya get all muscular for no reason? I wanted Aya to stay in New York and stay with Daniel, Maeda, etc. But instead she was in Los Angeles with people who hardly help in the game at all, I played the game, hoping it would get better, but the storyline was really messed up, the graphics were excellent, but Aya's controls were all confusing. I think this would be a good game to rent, but don't waist your money buying it.

this game is gangster, this game makes me angry sometimes, with the stupid dog zombies that takes 20 hits to kill, like you dig when you trying to figure out a puzzle and you keep running into these Stone Cold Steve Austin looking Dogs, the graphics are tight you dig,you got these powers, see what im saying? the worst thing on this game,is when your fighting 3 zombies dogs at the same time, see what im saying? just run like mug. but sometimes you'll have to fight them, see thats that phoney, these monsters are stupid, see you dig on RE(Resident Evil) the monsters on RE are fun to kill,on PE(Parasite Eve) these monsters its best just to run.but heh heh i forgot you'll have to kill them to get your points up to get stronger are you'll have no chance. see what im saying?

(the turning). how the characterlook it's alright, the text i didn't like,i mean compare this to the first parasite eve game. it's a whole lot better than parsite eve 2. wut a waste of my 20 dallar's

PE2 is sort of like FF8 in compareson to the game that preceded it. In my opinion the games before these 2 (PE & FFVII) are of much better quality mostly in the plot area. Parasite Eve, though short had an extreamly good plot that ended in a sort of cliffhanger. Which left you to belive that there was going to be a sequal. Unfortunatly PE2 does not continue PE like part 2 of a 2part episode. It basically takes the main character and a few tid-bits of the early plot and makes up another story in a way it's like a remake of the first one. This game is worth buying(unlike ff8).

First off the first game was awsome. Although anyone without a game shark probably couldnt make it past the burner this one was far better. The graphics and cinematics are the best ever. And the plot is so awsome. But i don't wanna spoil it for you, my recomendation is BUY THIS GAME!And buy it here.

An improvement over the first title.

It may play like Resident Evil, but PE2 is actually quite original. I liked the first game and how they accomplished such a storyline, and I'm thankful the PE2 turned out much better than I had anticipated.

The storyline is more involving than Parasite Eve 1; instead of the hectic slowpacing and that damn bar that recquired it to fill up before you can fire, Square rid PE2 of all of that [stuff] and developed an all out action adventure. It is still an RPG, mind you, even if you can fire whenever you like during battle. With a beautiful heroine and a handsome hero (though he turns out to be not-so-hero-like in the end), the game resonates fun and good scares.

top-notch survival horror

Opinions about this game seem to be divided into two groups. One group is made up of the RPG fans that loved the first game and typically dislike (and subsequently write bad reviews about) this sequel. The second group is made up of survival horror fans, many of whom found the gameplay and battle system of the first game tedious at best. Square apparently listened to the complaints of this second group and made radical changes to the battle system and gameplay, resulting in a top-notch survival horror game.

Basically, this game picks up a few years after where the first one left off. Aya is now a member of an FBI taskforce known as MIST, which has been created to control and wipe out the population of mutant creatures left over from the New York City incident. From there, the amazing plot (complete with twists, turns, and disturbing undertones) unfolds as you battle hordes of mutant creatures with the usual assortment of guns while progressing through several diverse areas.

As for the gameplay, the controls have been changed to resemble that of a typical survival horror game. Fans of the first game will likely hate the new controls. Anyone who's played the Resident Evil or Silent Hill series or any similar survival horror games will feel right at home. The gameplay is definitely far smoother than the first game, conforming more to the Resident Evil mold and dropping the slow and clunky movement found in the first game.

The battle system is also in real-time now, too, much like other survival horror games. This is a huge improvement in my opinion, replacing the tedious RPG turn-based system found in the first game (albeit to the dismay of some of the first game's RPG-loving fanbase). Unlike other survival horror titles, though, there is some strategy involved in fighting just about all of the enemies...not to mention a considerably larger variety of enemies than most survival horror games. Each enemy has a unique attack or effect, leaving you to dodge the attacks of more powerful enemies or take out certain enemies first to avoid being blinded. This really makes the battles considerably more captivating and less monotonous than the typical "keep pulling the trigger until the monsters die" survival horror games. This also makes the game quite challenging, as standard enemies (most having a ton of hit points and dangerous attacks) can sometimes be as deadly as the bosses.

Not all RPG elements have been removed, though.. You'll still gain experience points which, rather than making you stronger, will allow you to revive an array of magic powers that become necessary for survival as the game progresses. These are called up in real time during battle with a few button taps. You also have hit points rather than the infamous survival horror green-red color scale. Then there are BP, bounty points collected by killing enemies that can be spent on weapons/armor/ammo/items... Note that your GPS will allow you to see what locations on the map contain enemies. After certain situations (cut scenes, boss battles, etc), more enemies will appear in various rooms, setting up an RPG-esque "clear out all of the red rooms on the map to collect all of the experience points" type situation (which also adds to the fun by setting up an addictive "I'll just clear out a few more rooms before I go to bed" scenario).

Graphically, the game is one of the most impressive on the Playstation. The FMVs are amazing.. The in-game graphics, are leaps and bounds above those in the first game. The backgrounds are beautifully rendered and detailed. The character graphics on the human characters as well as the huge array of animal-like/insect-like/humanoid enemy creatures are quite nice (and at times a bit creepy..the horse/camel creatures with human faces being a notable example). The non-stationary camera angles are well done, especially during a standout sequence near the very beginning of the game.

Sonically, the game is also top quality. The music, where it is present, is usually low key ambient material that does a great job of creating atmosphere. Most notable are the minimalist music and ambient sounds found in the desert. There is no voice acting at all (other than a few laughs), which I found somewhat disappointing (although, in all fairness, the amount of dialogue probably would have necessitated an extra 2 discs just for the audio files). Weapon sounds, doors, cars, and other environmental sounds all sound as they should. Some enemies also sound particularly creepy, like one variety that laughs maniacally as you kill it.

As for replay value, there are a few endings (or, more precisely, variations of the same ending...bad, normal, best) and extra modes to explore (including both an easier "replay" mode and a few more difficult modes). The game itself can also be a bit longer than most survival horror games if you take the time to collect experience points to revive your powers.

Overall, this is an amazing game. RPG-oriented fans of the first Parasite Eve may be disappointed (as you can see by some of the other reviews) since, let's face it, this is a straightforward survival horror outing. If I just described you, a rental might be wise. However, it's a must-buy for survival horror fans or fans of the first game that don't mind a more action-oriented format.

It's all in the ending when it comes to RPG games and this one was unimpressive.
