This game is wickedly psychologically bone-chilling

Silent Hill - when i saw this game on the shelf at first i was skeptical cuz it looked like something that was a rip-off alot of horror movies etc that are out there. But i just decided to try it out anyway, just cuz i'd alreddy played everything else :P
Whoa!! let me tell u that this game is off the wall!! it totally freaked me out with a few of the scenes where there were viciously mutilated bodies strapped to blood soaked walls(alternate midwich elementary was the worst!) then there was the creepy ... music that got louder sometimes for unknown reasons that just made start freaking out and thinking i was just gonna die right there. It just felt so realistic. And the way harry mason(the main character) was just a normal person eg: he actually got puffed after running a block. And he actually got freaked out about the whole thing too, which added to the overall intensely scary, eery feeling, that this was actually real. I actually had to sleep in a different room than where i was playing the game, cuz i was so damn freaked out. And i didnt have the gutts to play the game after 10pm. it was just to damn scary!!!!!!!!!! putting aside that it is the best dam scare ive had in a while, the puzzles in this game are excellent. theyre like somethin u would see in something like the mummy - but demonic style.. they made me use my brain!!! and thats a big complement.. speaking conclusively - If u want to get a scary, fun game with a good soundtrack and mindboggling puzzles, with lots of mutant monsters to kill - then this is the game for u, believe me u wont be sorry....

A perfect thriller

This game is a perfect game for all horror lovers. It's great for its large 3-D enviorment and sound effects. I think what really captures the horrifing mood of the game is the music. For those of you who have played the Resident Evil series, this game goes above and beyond them. This game is a must buy!

Holy Christ!

I know that everyone said it, but Silent Hill really is the scariest game I've ever played. Its constant psychological assault leaves you gripped (sorry for the lame pun) to the controller, going around the next corner even though you are almost positive something is waiting for you just out of sight. Chances are you know the story by now, so I'll just go into gameplay. As I said above, this is a scary game. When it first came out a friend rented it and brought it over. It is the only time I have ever seen two teenage boys scared in the middle of the afternoon in a well-lit room (stupid hospital, wait til you get on the elevator again and you'll see what I mean). The gameplay overall is fun (though nervewracking) but it does have a few problems. The controls are the main problem, but if you're used to Resident Evil it shouldn't be too annoying as they are almost exactly the same. The fog is also kind of annoying, even though it does add to the tension, mainly because its obvious its covering up the godawful draw distance. The only other problem I had was with the voice work. I realize almost every game has some problems, but the pauses between each sentence during the engine-driven cutscenes are aggravating and only make you want Harry to forget about his daughter and leave so he will stop talking like that. Overall, its a solid game that has only a few problems. Great rental and, if you can find it cheap enough (Electronics Boutique wanted $25 used-ripoff-check Blockbuster, I found mine $10-$15 cheaper new) go ahead and buy it.

Welcome To Hell

The unofficial motto of this game is "play with the lights on". If you get it, you'll see why within the first 10 minutes of play. The world shifts between our "normal" world, if you can call it normal, (i.e. monsters, all roads out of town collapsed, and fog so thick you can't see you hand in front of your face) to a hellish alternate world brought about by a demonic cult. This game's got everything-great puzzles, cool battles, scariness factor throught the roof. Resident Evil fans, prepare to pee your pants! This is THE scariest game ever. (By the way, if you've seen the video "Stupify" by Disturbed, the room in the mad house is taken from a S.H. scene...)

Oh My God! Wow!

Oh my God! Wow. I say that because I just played the original for the first time having been made a fan of the series after beating 2 and somewhat curious to learn more about the tie-ins with 3 after finishing it. I just can't believe how much of Silent Hill 2 and 3, built on as powerful a system as the PS2, was actually not new in regards to the PSOne original. I didn't know what to expect when I started playing this but it just blew my mind how little Konami did with the series since the original besides using sharper graphics.

The sounds of the wierd air raid siren signalling the shift between worlds. The way buildings go from the foggy real world to the dark, rust-stained alternate world. The fetish with floors that turn into iron fence-like grating was actually pioneered in the original. The fact that every Silent Hill has a mandatory hospital visit with those crazy bent over nurses. Man! After playing all three it's like the pot calling the kettle black when SH fans start accusing Resident Evil of being recycled and the "same old same ol'." It actually made me a little disappointed by the franchise. Oh well, I'll always treasure the first time I beat SH2.

A bad forgery of Resident evil

Iv'e had Silent Hill for about a year and beaten the game and obtained all of the endings, but this game just plain sucks! The controlls are horribal and you have to use a flash light for most of the game! Even when youre not in total darkness you can only see about 6 feet in front you! Now I'm a huge Resident evil series fan and I would definitly choose resident evil over this game. One of the most disturbing thing about this bad excuse for a game is that they have nude zombie children that stab you with kitchen nives what the hell is up with that? If you want a good horror game get ant of the residnent evil series EXCEPT THE FIRST ONE.

very good

Silent Hill doesn't jump out at you from all sides, or leave you in boredom. Instead, Silent Hill is a slow leaning curve into gaming hell.

Harry Mason is off on vacation with his daughter, Cheryl. Everything is going smoothly, and his destination, Silent Hill, is drawing closer, when a someone walks in front of Mason's car. Turning frantically, his car is thrown into a ditch. When he awakes Cheryl is gone. His search for her will lead him through Silent Hill's diserted streets into a hellish world, where the town's secret is found.

Silent Hill is a good, disturbing game who's puzzles may be the best part of it. They aren't all the search and find type. Most of Silent Hill's puzzle actually take brains *gasp* to figure out.

With a good replay value, Silent Hill is a definate buy for the sirvival horror game fan.
