Pretty Lame considering the Competition

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 4 / 6

This game, considering the competition, is not that great. First, it doesn't prove to be as fun and original as the first Wild ARMs; this is just re-hash of an uninventive battle system. What sucks is that the acutal battles are lame because you only have a few options: attack, skills, and summons(which can only be accessed by few people and can only be done with Tim in your party!). I admit, when I bought this I tought that it was great, but soon the battles got repetitive and the story got bland. I grew tired of finding new and pointless Guardians who could only be accessed with Tim. Normally I finish all of my games, but I probably won't comlpete this one. I knew I should've saved for Legend of Mana or Legend of Dragoon, but still this is okay if you have already beaten Vagrant Story or Front Mission 3. Oh well...

it's an almost perfect game

I hate to admit it, but I'm obsessed with this game. There's only one thing I don't like about it: The search system. It gets so annoying if you keep tapping Square in a place where you think the castle is and it's really on the next continent. Okay, that rarely happens, but still. It gets a lot easier when you get Kanon's sonar thingy. I also like the fact that the enemies wait for you to enter your commands in battle, then attack. I was devastated in FF8 because Ultima Weapon cast Meteor on me twice in a row while I was still telling Zell to cast Meltdown on him. In this game, I only have to worry once I enter the last command. I've never played the original Wild Arms, but I still like this game. If you like RPGs, I suggest you get it.

Awesome Game

I bought this game because I really liked Wild Arms 1 and had figured that sony would keep a good thing going. I'm not disapointed. You can set the difficulty in this game very early on. If you use skill points for HP recovery skills you can go the entire game without using an inn once. If you want it to be harder, you can not invest in any skills and keep it challenging. Even though dungeons are have typicly easy random battles, the puzzles can be very confusing. I spent over an hour in one room because I couldn't figure out a password that was just to the left of my character. Although the story rotates around Ashley, each character builds up depth. I spent tons of time going back to towns hoping for more information about characters. Each character also has their own idividual talents. For example, without Tim, you can't use a single guardian. I could go on and on, but I'd rather you just bought this game and decided for yourself.

Not bad but certainly isn't very good.

I played WA3 before this one and I enjoyed that so much that I had to go back and play the first two. While I could never seem to find the first one, I managed to find this one. While I liked WA3 a lot, this one wasn't as good I thought. True the gameplay elements are top-notch and all, but where it gets annoying are the themes outside the gameplay.

First of all, these characters are actually nicely developed. Something that I didn't very much expect from this game. They were brilliantly done. However, the dialogue was a little annoying at times. There was one NPC character that always started every sentence off with "In my humble opinion" and that got very annoying at the beginning of the game because I ran into him a lot. The dialogue was also weak and didn't get the storyline across fast enough.

The graphics aren't very good for the PSX. This was made in 2000 and we were looking at games like FFIX and LOD then and these graphcis couldn't compare. They're fuzzy. While they aren't that bad, I wasn't quite used to that.

The other major gripe (and the reason I gave it three stars) is the music. The music is by far some of the worst I've heard in an RPG. Seems kind of stupid to dislike the music huh? In an RPG you have to realize that you may need to endure some music for hours. The music in this was enough to make my ears explode!

The other reason I gave this three stars is because the most important element to me was a little shabby. That's storyline. There was a story in this game but it was slow and boring to get to. The story paced so slowly and I couldn't take it!

I was a little disappointed in this game but it really wasn't all that bad. But the music and storyline...something I have to deal with throughout the entire game, were overall weak. So to be truthful this game isn't the most worthwhile in the bunch but for any RPGer its very promising because of gameplay this game is easily a good one to choose.

The good

+Great gameplay
+Good battle system
+Character development
+Not a bad story although...

The bad
-Story moves very slowly
-Music is annoying!
-The graphics aren't the best.

Overall the game is a nice treat for an RPGer but its only worth for me to play through once.

Difficulty is fun, but...

Wild Arms 2 is a nice addition to the famous Wild West fantasy series, but many may not find this as western as the other two. The lack of wild west aspect (save for the wild west music and towns) makes it seem somewhat stale in comparison to the first one and doesn't even compete with the third one. The game's battle system is easy to follow, but the monsters are a step up from the previous game's creatures. More than not, many monsters are faster than your group and abuse that advantage to no avail. The equipping of Guardians to boost parameters and gain an extra ability in battle is a welcome addition to combat and the use of ARMS (special artillery like the ones Rudy used in WA1) makes for some nice gunmetal action. Crest magic is back and comes with more features, including special rare crests that can cut the FP cost for magic or increase the power by 1.5 times. That and the fact you have six members makes this a more engrossing WA than the other two. Each character develops nicely even though one might expect more considering the game's length. If you want to do EVERYTHING in this WA, you're looking to clock in over 70 hours of gameplay.

However, this game is not without its one major flaw: the translation. Practically every line uttered by Ashley and Co. sounds very strange. Why? The game was translated word for word from Japanese which many who know the language know it's going to come out sounding very unusual in English. This has been this game's biggest gripe for everyone and discourages some from even playing it. I admit it was bizarre at first, but that didn't stop me from beating the game. If you can get around this problem, the game is fine.

The music is top notch, full of the usual wild west you demand from this series along with sad, happy, goofy, mysterious, serious and dark themes. It's all in here.

If the translation won't bug you, I would recommend getting this WA highly, especially if you haven't touched it yet. You might miss out on one of the better PSX RPGs of its time.

Wild Arms 1 was one of my favorite games ever, its what got me interested in buying a playstation instead of a 64, (and boy am I glad I did that) This game is just as good as its predecessor. For those of you who played part 1, there will be some items that will bring back memories, dream wand, toy hammer, heal berry, and many others. There are also arms, but what I didn't like is that there is no fast-draw techniques. My favorite part of the game is the exploration. Many people complain about it but I love it. You walk around and someone gives you directions on which way to go, then you hit square and a little radar comes up, and when the radar hits the town, it appears(you can't see the towns until it radars) This makes exploring more fun. Really the only complaint I had, was its too easy, I can kill every normal enemy in one hit with the guys, then I can just use non-stop magic with the girl. I highly recommend this game.

They did it again!

The ARMS are back-only this time they are more common than before. The game is set several centuries into the future from the first, and the old technology is popping up everywhere. You start with the three same type of characters as the first: a jack of all trades, a strong man, and a physically weak sorceress. As the game progresses, you pick up three additional characters, all very well developed with good abilities of their own. Sony didn't monkey with the combat system much, but they did add some cool new attack features (for instance, your main character can turn into a demon knight and do some serious damage). There are more puzzles than I remember from the first game, but not anything annoying, even if your not a big puzzle fan. The story develops nicely, with twists and turns and strange events that leave you guessing, all the while maintaining that tough story/action balance. Five stars all the way!

Okay,I bought this game, and it was really fun. If you enjoy role-playing games with a lot of complicated puzzles you should buy this. However, personally I found the difficulty with regular battles and boss fights to be easy, most normal monsters being a one hit kill. The graphics are just about the same as the origional, and the spell system is the same too. But unlike the first one, there is 6 different characters in this game, all with their unique origional powers. So check this one out! I promise it is much better than the first.

The only RPG to get my attention

This is the most fun and only RPG game I've ever played. Though clearly not the best game, it is very fun with a good storyline, music (although it's kind of repetitive) and gameplay. Many people claim this game has bad graphics but at least the towns and dungeons are perfectly put. And graphics don't mean everything. You start off as a GunWarrior, CrestSorceress or Deserter. According to a plan of a Nobleman, you all meet and form a group known as ARMS (Agile Remote Mission Squad). You battle terrorists and a coming, nearly indestructible threat to save the world. There are maybe a whole lot of talking scenes to this game, but I believe talking scenes are a good way to get involved with the characters and feel the depth of the game. The missions, finding new members (total of 6), and combat is fun and enjoyable. This game is especially great for patient people because your destinations can be challenging but not in a way you want to stop playing the game. Overall, I would give Wild Arms 2: 2nd Ignition a total of 4 and a half stars for giving an experience I can never forget.

P.S. There's also an excellent twist at the end of the game, but I don't like to give up surprises.

A game in itself.Not a sequel!

Great game. Takes a while to get into it, and there are a lots of places where you could get stuck, but the combat scenes look really cool and by golly, if it isn't as good as Wild Arms, it's better. I really like the new vehicles and places. The boss feature looks really cool. Just before you face a boss, their shadow comes up on a red bacdround with their name. Kinda zeldaish if you ask me.The battle weapons are really sweet. My playstation broke so I haven't played it in a long time, but as soon as my playstation gets fixed, this is one of the first games I'll play.
