Wild Arms 2: 2nd Ignition is one of my favorite game after the Final Fantasy series. I've played half of the game ( japanese version ) and from what I saw everything look great, although I don't understand the language but I can tell you that WA2:2I has a great storyline and they also feature lots of new additions, Like you can name all the characters that are involved in this game, that's crazy with over 20 characters and you get to name them one by one. This RPG also improves a lot from the first Wild Arms. Everything is in 3D now except for the characters. This is also one of the game that you have to twist your brain to solve the puzzle aside from the Alundra series. By far this is the most beautiful RPG I've played after final Fantasy series and Chrono Trigger. I recommend this game to all those hardcore RPG gamer & get ready to solve all those great puzzles.

Oh, the horror...

Okay, so maybe this game is PRETTY good, but it lacked a lot of the appeal from Wild Arms 1. For instance, the opening animation sequence is a lot less artistic and the character designs are a bit less midevilish than the first version. I really loved that opening anime sequence too... Another thing: I wish they would've kept the original characters! Rudy Roughnight, Jack Van Burace, and that one girl with the really long name are the ones that define Wild Arms. This game is more of a separate story than a sequel, though most would probably consider it better fun. The graphics are amazing, but only for the backgrounds. So far, I have only seen two games that have succesfully animated their characters: Zelda (not to be biased) and Jade Cocoon. All the other games have these emotionless little sprites that look like bugs. Visually, the only thing amazing about Wild Arms 2 is the backgrounds and the characters attacks. As for play value, I generally thought it was okay. Puzzle games are just not my thing, but I can take a little bit of that. Don't get me wrong, this game is mainly RPG, but it has more puzzles then the first version. The story was good, and the gameplay wasn't too long or short...for me... Now that I've said all the important stuff, I'll be raving about the character designs (this is because I'm a sort of junior character designer) They pretty much stunk. The anime part was VERY bad. I disapprove of small eyed, large footed animation. I mean, Ashley just wasn't as cool as Rudy, and his hair doo was way drab. Lylka was cute enough, but that umbrella thing? Strikes me as kinda lame. She doesn't seem like the kind of person who'd be a sorceress. Brad was fairly cool. I liked his story, and his character design was good. Not terribly cool, but good. **remembering how cool Jack looked** The supporting characters weren't much better, with one exception: Kanon. GREAT idea. Butt kickin girls are always good, but Kanon manages to be original at the same time. I mean, a bounty hunter who can take out her foes in one hit? That's cool. But WHY OH WHY did they give her blue hair? Ashley and that one other girl had blue hair. Besides, it just doesn't fit her personality. This may sound stupid, but she would've been way better with black hair. As you can see, I'm just SLIGHTLY obsessed with character design. Oh well. They DID have a lot of characters to work with.

Wild ignition or false start?

As a fan of the original game I couldn't believe it when I found a copy of this at my local importer. Feeling proud that I had secured a copy of this game I returned home and began to play. At first the game seemed all to similar to the previous version. The menu system in battle and on the world map and gaming fields were pretty indifferent. But this isn't a fault, the game was liked because of the simple and easy to follow menu. What I did notice this time around was the way the graphics in-game had been improved. Instead of being very blocky and ugly they were smooth and curved. The characters as usual in Rpg's had changed and the game environment had moved on from the last version. The magic rules have changed as well. Instead of needing Magic Points to cast spells, this time you need so many force points. While they don't sound that different here in battle you notice the difference immediately. You see the force points don't decrease unless you use a characters force skill, meaning that in theory battles are very simple because you'll never be able to stop using magic. But when you need to start using force skills the points soon begin to deplete and unless care is taken with the points you are granted the battle is soon turned against you.

However there are still some problems that have been in existence since the last game. One of the major ones is the way that if you encounter a new enemy for the first few times, you will find that it is almost impossible to run away until you take your three controllable characters up levels. Also the map system seems needlessly complicated, this time whenever you need to visit a new town or ruin you will have to find it by using a tiny radar this means that you can end up spending ages going around in circles as you try to discover which way to go. This arouses the fear that many gamers will think that it is pointless continuing and boycott the game. This would be shame as the game itself is very good and provided you stick with it and persevere about the faults you will find decent enjoyment here.

They did it again!

The ARMS are back-only this time they are more common than before. The game is set several centuries into the future from the first, and the old technology is popping up everywhere. You start with the three same type of characters as the first: a jack of all trades, a strong man, and a physically weak sorceress. As the game progresses, you pick up three additional characters, all very well developed with good abilities of their own. Sony didn't monkey with the combat system much, but they did add some cool new attack features (for instance, your main character can turn into a demon knight and do some serious damage). There are more puzzles than I remember from the first game, but not anything annoying, even if your not a big puzzle fan. The story develops nicely, with twists and turns and strange events that leave you guessing, all the while maintaining that tough story/action balance. Five stars all the way!

A good game, with a few flaws

Wild Arms 2, for the most part, is a good game. Anyone who has played the original Wild Arms will note serveral differences, but some of the differences make this a rather frustrating game.

The game starts off the same way as the original one - three seperate people with seperate quests. Atfer going through the intro, there isn't any indication that anything is wrong. Lilka's choice of weapon is a little odd and Ashley and Brad both use ARMS. OK, but I prefer the combo of Rudy Cecelia and Jack from WA. Another problem is that you have to wait to use the ARMS and magic until you reach a certain force point. Although this eliminates MP, it gets really annoying having to wait to cast Ice on a fire creature when the same thing blasts me with a fire attack. Same problem with the ARMS - have to wait until the FP is high enough. This creates problems when you get into a tough battle and have to wait a few turns to use the big guns - and the critter hits you with confusion, sleep, et al while waiting.

The idea of personal skills is great - get immune to all kinds of stuff, and power up your character at the same time.

The force skills attained by the characters are OK, but some of them are a waste. Ashley's Access is a powerful force, but you have to be at condition green to use it, and I'm usually too busy pounding away with the ARMS to really use it. Tim's FP shift is another more or less useless force skill.

Searching for items it OK, but searching for cities and dungeons seems to be more annoying than anything else.

There aren't as many magic spells for Lilka in WA 2 that there is for Celilia in the Orginial WA. The powered up versions of the simple magic in WA 2 aren't really worth the effort to find them

The graphics in WA 2 are better than the orginal one, but I don't worry about graphics too much, preferring gameplay and fun over graphics.

Don't get me wrong - this is a good game overall There are a lot of little things that make this a good, as opposed to great, game. I do recommend it, but rent it first! =)

Awesome Sequel

Wild Arms 1 was one of my favorite games ever, its what got me interested in buying a playstation instead of a 64, (and boy am I glad I did that) This game is just as good as its predecessor. For those of you who played part 1, there will be some items that will bring back memories, dream wand, toy hammer, heal berry, and many others. There are also arms, but what I didn't like is that there is no fast-draw techniques. My favorite part of the game is the exploration. Many people complain about it but I love it. You walk around and someone gives you directions on which way to go, then you hit square and a little radar comes up, and when the radar hits the town, it appears(you can't see the towns until it radars) This makes exploring more fun. Really the only complaint I had, was its too easy, I can kill every normal enemy in one hit with the guys, then I can just use non-stop magic with the girl. I highly recommend this game.

Pretty Lame considering the Competition

This game, considering the competition, is not that great. First, it doesn't prove to be as fun and original as the first Wild ARMs; this is just re-hash of an uninventive battle system. What sucks is that the acutal battles are lame because you only have a few options: attack, skills, and summons(which can only be accessed by few people and can only be done with Tim in your party!). I admit, when I bought this I tought that it was great, but soon the battles got repetitive and the story got bland. I grew tired of finding new and pointless Guardians who could only be accessed with Tim. Normally I finish all of my games, but I probably won't comlpete this one. I knew I should've saved for Legend of Mana or Legend of Dragoon, but still this is okay if you have already beaten Vagrant Story or Front Mission 3. Oh well...

Wild Arms 2 in my opinion was an overall great role playing game that I really enjoyed. I've played lots of other RPG's but this one is one the best i"ve plyed in a while. Its battle system is easy to catch on to just like any other RPG such as Final Fantasy 8 or the first WILD ARMS game. This game also has some great characters the each have some cool special abilities that seperate them from each other. WILD ARMS 2 also has a great story line to compete with all the other well known RPG's out these days. And thats my review of WILD ARMS 2.

An above average RPG title

Wonderful graphics, A few puzzles, some interesting battle methods and quite importantly the ability to have the computer auto-fight against those annoyingly weak but ever present 1st level monsters that show up in any game to annoy an umpteenth level super power.

Okay,I bought this game, and it was really fun. If you enjoy role-playing games with a lot of complicated puzzles you should buy this. However, personally I found the difficulty with regular battles and boss fights to be easy, most normal monsters being a one hit kill. The graphics are just about the same as the origional, and the spell system is the same too. But unlike the first one, there is 6 different characters in this game, all with their unique origional powers. So check this one out! I promise it is much better than the first.
