A GREAT GAME

Crash Bandicoot The Wrath of Cortex is a great game. Konami could have cut back on the loading, but the wait is worth it. The graphics are great and the levels are hard. This crash is really worth the money. Trust me you'll love it.

This game is realy realy realy realy realy realy realy bad.

Me and my husband are avid fans of Crash. We own all of the Crash series so we had to have this one also. Overall, we are very disappointed with this game. The most annoying default in this game is the loading time. IT IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! It takes about 1 minute to load every level and 1 minute after you finish a level, but we decided to finish the game out and see if at least it's worth playing after all the loading delays. We are about 80% done, and I have to say overall, I'm still disappointed. There's something missing from this game that the other Crash games had. Maybe its the orginal creator Naughy Dog? There are some new levels that are fun like Crash in a crate ball that is very fun but somewhat hard to control when you're going for the time relics. And there are 2 helicopter levels that are very frustrating to operate because the up and down arrows that we are all used to using in the swimming levels are the opposite in these levels. I wouldn't say the game is too easy or too hard. Some of the levels are easy but they are also very long. But we have had trouble on a number of levels. I think the time relics are very difficult to get in some levels. The water levels are tough as there are are spiked skulls that drop off from the top of the screen that you can't see until you are right under them and a lot of other creatures that come out from nowhere. If you go very, very slowly you may get lucky and get through it although it will take many tries, but the time is pretty tough to get without getting killed a hundred times. I do like the bosses in this game much better than the other ones, probably because I don't find them as difficult to beat, HOWEVER, a few are difficult to figure out HOW to beat. I would think a little kid would have a hard time figuring out what you have to do to beat the boss. It took me and my husband many, many tries on some to figure some of them out and we're in our 30's! As far as Coco, I'm disappointed in her role also. I loved her in the waterskiing levels and with her Tiger in Crash 3, but those levels are gone in this game. She does snow ski and snow board in a couple of levels but overall her character is wasted. She has a karate kick but doesn't have any of the other features that Crash has, like the tip-toe and double jump. She is also very hard to control. I don't care too much about graphics so I can't comment on that, but my husband thinks they're great. So overall, its an okay game, but not a must have. If you have Crash 3 then I wouldn't bother buying this game because it's very similar. I would suggest only buying it if you want the collection, but I guess the best advice to give is to AT LEAST RENT BEFORE YOU BUY... And it pains me to say this, but if they come out with another Crash game, I will have to think twice before buying it. Me and my husband are now anxious to try something else besides Crash, so our next investment will be with Crash's original creator, Naughty Dog, "Jax & Daxter". I hear it's a lot like Crash and hopefully it will not be a disappointment.

Naughty Dog genuinely cared about Crash and the games he starred in. When you bought one of their Crash games you could be sure of endless fun. The same cannot be said these days. Sony are only interested in hiring Crash out here and there for quick earners to any software company who can switch on a games console, and Travellers' Tales are a software company who will do anything for a quick buck. That's not to say this game is a total disaster. It has a nice cartoon intro sequence and is quite fun to start with. But it isn't long before he game becomes repetative, irritating and tedious. Given the ridiculously long loading times and the graphics, well below par for a PS2 title, this should be a budget title, was either rushed out or made on the cheap. Originality rarely rears its head. There are some Marble Madness type games, but mostly it's all seen-it-all-before stuff - the ice level, the eastern level, the aeroplane level, the jet-pack, the jungle, the being chased by something nasty. It's like someone with no idea what made Crash games so good was trying to re-create levels from Crash 2 and 3. Difficulty is achieved by dodgy camera angles which make judging distances nigh on impossible, and by the fact that you often can't see what's just around the corner until it's too late. The game includes a racing level which, due to impossible twists and turns and holes you can't see until it's too late to do anything about them, is one of the most frustrating things you'll ever play. I can find no sign of the minigames, Coco only appears once or twice and her levels are nothing special, and the new characters and the inter-level character speeches are pathetic, lack any of the wit, imagination and thought of the character chat from Crash:Warped. If you're a Crash fan, be content with the PS1 Crash games. This travesty isn't worth the bother. And if you don't own any of the Crash titles then buy the older games, now available on budget. Even Crash Bash offers far more long-term value than this worthless piece of pure commercialism. Everyone involved in this game should be ashamed.

A few annoying things

I play most of my daughter's games; this one is no exception. A long while back I played a Bandicoot game on the PS1 and liked it. However, this one has a few extremely annoying problems:
1. Of course, the load time - very discouraging
2. When paused in a level, sometimes I accidentally hit the analog control and press X, thinking that it's still pointing to "Resume". Unfortunately, there is no yes/no confirmation to go back to the Warp Room and it kicks you out, having to endure another 3 hours of load time.
3. 3D perspective is quite bad sometimes. At times, you don't know if you are in front, behind, or aligned with an item. I have fallen into holes way too many times just because I can't determine where I am.
At this point, I am just playing it to finish it (I have all the crystals - I'm going back to do timed mode) just to see how it ends.

I thought Crash games were cool?

Well, I have rented this game. Had my PS2 memory all set to go. Man! You people wouldn't believe how long it takes just to exit, or when you have a game over, or if you want to save. A mintue to load up every time. That is a shame. The graphics were awesome, but graphics I am afraid kids, doensn't make a great game. It is the gameplay that does. Too long of load times. Boys and Girls, this was to me, a very dissappointing game. I LOVED the other Crash games, but unfortunately, Crash loses all his fir on this game. Bottom Line: This game does BITE. B-I-T-E. (...) Try it before you buy it. This game is almost exactly like Crash Bandicoot 3: Wrath of Cortex. They could of added a multiplayer game to it to make it a unique Crash experience for the PlayStation 2.

Love to wait?

Have you ever gotten home and wanted to play that one game that you just got a new code for, don't do that with this game. Unless that code makes the game load faster this game is annoying. If this was the first game I played on the PS2 I would have returned the PS2, and gotten a Game Cube or X Box. The graphics are not that great, and I hate the controls. When controlling Crash you feel like you are in a BMW M5 convertible that can only go a top speed of 30mph because of an engine problem. Everything about this game is slow. I wonder if the people who made this game were slow in the head. Other than that the game is fun. It is another Crash game, nothing special. But the loading kills the fun.

If you played one Crash game, you've played them all.

If you've liked the previous Crash Bandicoot games, you'll like this one. The gameplay is exactly the same, just different levels. Crash Bandicoot was the first game I bought for the original Playstation years ago and The Wrath of Cortex was the first game I bought for my PS2. The only thing I did not like about this game was the horribly long loading times.

I almost didn't buy the game for all the complaints about load times. Since I've enjoyed all the other Crash Bandicoots I took a risk and bought this one.

The load times are not bad at all. The longest one was about fifty (50)seconds. Not bad for the excellent graphics and sound you get in exchange. Overall, the game met my expectations and even exceeded them at times. The bosses were more difficult! That's a plus in my opinion. Even Cortex was more difficult!

I recommend this to anyone especially to Bandicoot fans.

everything is great but the LOADING SUCKS!!!!

I would have gave this game 5 stars if the loading wouldn't take like 2 minutes. It has lots of challenges, but if you try to get 3 gems it would take more than 20 minutes because the loading takes a lot and while you try to make the gem or relic and the tries it takes to get the gem or relic, men it takes more than 30 minutes. If you are not fan of crash bandicoot don't even bother!!!
