Great Enemy Artifical Intelligence

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1
Date: April 05, 2007

The story was good and flowed very nicely throughout the whole game, but the most suprisingly outstanding aspect of the game was the enemy AI. Not too many games out there that i've played have enemies that are smart enough to do a lot of stupid things that drove me nuts and challenge my skills, but this game did. Does anyone know any other game that have great challenging enemy AI that I can play? I'd greatly appreciate the information. And if you haven't tried the game yet, give it a try. It may be older than current games in some ways, but it still got it where it counts, which is in the game play. Thanks, and have fun.

PS2 version is not worth it.

I realize I'm reviewing an old game here and I'm writing this review with 2008 standards. Please keep in mind I am only reviewing the PS2 version (not PC).

If you're one of those fans considering to track this old game (on PS2) and spend lots of money on it -- don't bother wasting it.

The PS2 version is just really frustrating. Some games still look good on the PS2 even to this day. However, this game just isn't worth tracking down and playing it again, on the PS2.

Like most games that are poorly ported onto console, this game is no exception. There are many slowdowns. That is my biggest complaint. It's not that the graphics are so demanding, but it just isn't optimized well.

This game is considered a classic and really took FPS to a whole new level when it came out. However, to fully appreciate that, even in today's standard, go with the PC. Instead of paying $20 or more for the PS2, just for the rare factor (unless you just want to put it on your shelf or something and collect dust), it's better to buy the Half-Life Anthology (where you get many expansions) for less than $10 now. You don't even need a fast computer and everything will be smooth. Plus, you'll get to use a keyboard and mouse -- the way it is meant to be played.

But for better graphics, I recommend getting the Orange Box, which has Half-Life 2 and even the original Half-Life with updated graphics.

So my 1-star rating is for the PS2 version.

half life is a deeply inquisitive game, and sinceI am 98 years old then I do believe that it is a trifle unstrict, like the liberal protestants. i am very stuck oin a bit of the game, i think it's the bit where you have to walk out of the train thing. I keep on falling down the stairs and dyiong.. As for the game, this is not relevant. I can't get past the great big grey monster (it might be a wall!)
I think that this game is a bit lacking on the instructions because, after trying to run it in a cd player, a computer, a microwave, and finally a six year old child, i have found that (with several melted implements, including a disembowelled child) it runs very well in a liquidizer as it provides the most entertainment. The game we play is to see how many children we can mutilate with the flying shards of the CD with only one Half Life CD. However, the game itself is one of amzing quality so that is why I have awarded the half-life hotel with five stars. It is ahotel isn't it? No, well I still renain strong in belief that half-life is only sutiable for the over 70's. I would like to thank Valve for their effort in making the cover of the CD look so shiny and pretty. I could almost see it through my cataracts. I think that's what made me blind.
Ah! Here are those men in white coats coming to give me my big supply of CD's and children, wait a minute it's the administrator (why will u not open the door for me? Nooooooooooooooooooo. This is the end, thank-you for reading

If you tried half-life for PS2 and liked it, you should also get a PC and try the other great mods from the game! they are linked with the same story, but a different point of view from other characters you meet in the half-life game.
oppossing force:
You kno half-life and gordon freeman being the main character? and how aliens and U.S. marine troops are out to get him? We'll in this game, you get to be one of the marine troops, and somehow gets lost from your squad, and in your own adventure! ( in some cases, you see gordoon freeman himself doing the things like you've done in half-life)
blueshift:
become one of the security gaurds in black mesa!

Greatest FPS of All Time

Half-life is arguably the best first-person shooter of all time. When it was first released in 1998, the entire gaming community was blown away by Half-life. The game is more of a movie, with a purpose and plot, rather than a repetitive shoot-em-up like Quake etc. Although its user-interface is much the same as other games, the seamless transition between "levels" is nothing short of revolutionary. Unlike other games with well-defined levels, (each with a different goal) half-life flows from beginning to end, delivering unbelievably graphics, weapons and enemies. This is the epitome of the modern-day video game.

Half-Life is a very good game for ps2 but it has one problem

On the ps2 version i got problems saving the game correctly, you see a LOAD GAME on the menu, though. In the game itself you see Quick Load & Quick Save, for example, save the game, it saves. Quit the game and go to the menu, go to load game and it say's there isn't any game data it says: "No half-life data found on console memory!" Does anyone get this problem? Somebody report to this review soon. Cause i might not beat the game if this has been having to play and beat the game in one sitting....

Half Life
Half Life is a first person shoot `em up game created by the game designers Sierra. Half Life has been named game of the year by more then forty publications. It was made in 1997. It was put onto the PS2 console in the year 2002. ...

Half Life lets you play many modes which are the two player Head to Head, the two player adventure game Decay and the one player Half Life.

The one player game Half Life follows a scientist named Gordon Freeman who works in the Black Mesa Facility. Gordon takes part in an experiment with two other scientists which has a high risk factor. The experiment went wrong and aliens come to the Black Mesa Facility. The aliens kill most of the scientist but not Freeman. His mission is to get out of the facility alive. Throughout his ordeal Freeman finds many weapons.
Crowbar: This can attack enemies who come to close and can smash boxes which can sometimes hold items.
Pistol: This gun has rounds of twelve bullets and is not very powerful. This is the first gun you acquire in the game.
Assault Rifle: This gun you find on a soldiers dead body. It fires a lot of bullets in a very short amount of time.
Shotgun: The shotgun is a high powered weapon which has a secondary and primary fire. The primary fire uses one piece of ammo and takes away forty to one hundred pieces of health depending on where you hit the target.
Laser: The laser is a good weapon for long range battles and takes away a fare bit of health. This is the first piece of alien technology you find in your adventure.
There many other guns you find throughout your adventure which can be very powerful but some can be incredibly risky.

Aliens
There are a variety of over twelve aliens. My favourite alien wears a scientists clothing and has an open stomach. It also has two antennas. It has a variety of colours mostly pink and red. It attacks you with its claws this attack will take away ten to fifteen pieces of health.

Items
Ammo: Ammunition is found in crates or over soldiers dead bodies.
Medipak: Medipaks are found on the floor and in crates. Medipaks will heal fifteen pieces of health to your injured body.
H.E.V Restoration Units. In the game you have a H.E.V suit. The suit will run out of power when you step into situations where you get burnt, frozen, poisoned or being near radiation. These units are attached to the wall.
Health Restoration Units.

Decay
Decay is a two player co-operative adventure game. You and a friend are Dr Gina Cross and Dr Colette Green. You are also two scientists who are escaping from Black Mesa after the accident.

Head to Head
In head to Head you play a friend and the aim is to see who can get the most frags in the allocated time limit. You have a choice of six characters including the three main scientists.

The game have good graphics and very detailed levels. The best is Surface Tension because this is a long level and makes you use the various skills you have mastered throughout the game.
It is long game and you can play on three different difficulties.
Overall I would give it a rating of 9 and half out of ten. I advise everyone who owns a PS2 to buy this magnificent game.

Top 5 greatest games of all time

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 2

Let me just say that after playing this game, you will never look at FPS games in the same way again. The PC version of this is better in every way, but that is to be expected no matter what the game is (usually this is true anyway).

From the moment you step off the underground tram, you are thrust into a world that is very dangerous, and very intriguing. This game, along with Deus Ex, has possibly the best storyline and gameplay of all time. You are in danger every second of this game, and you have to be smart about your actions. If you run blindly into an area, you will 99.9% likely be cannon fodder for whatever lies in wait for you. The government special forces, mutated monsters, and various environmental hazards are all that separate you from freedom...and/or instant death. Be careful how you run around this government facility or you will be reloading a saved game quite frequently.

Obviously, this game is dated now but it is still one of the best games ever created. The graphics, AI, and storyline are incredible. I absolutely recommend this game to anyone whom is interested in a realistic, gripping FPS game.

Overall = Excellent

Three stars for bad sound

I'm really shocked at the use of 8-bit audio for all the in-game dialogue. It's jarring; it pulls you out of the experience. This is the sort of thing they did in the old NES days and I don't think it's justified anymore.

Given the same technology other companies have managed to put together games that look AND sound good, and frankly Half-Life is neither.Luckily it plays well or we'd have a surprising stinker on hand here.

Why did Clive Barker's Undying got killed off?

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 1 / 3

When I heard of a PS2 version of Clive Barker's Undying I began to drool. After a few days I was given the bad news that it was caned. (Bad PC edition sells, they say) Too bad, I think. I am a FPS maniac, you know? Even if this great game was murdered, we still have Red-Faction (which I own), Time-Splitters (whish I don't), the coming up Deus-Ex, Medal of Honor: Frontline, a rumored Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Half-Life. So I go to the store and shell 50 dollars on Half-Life, without ever knowing how the PC game originally was.

Boy was I slapped! I know this game got many game of the year awards and other similar honors, but the problem is that I cannot see how or why. Yes, I know that FPS aren't the most amazing of games when it comes down to story line (With CV's Undying and Deus-Ex as exceptions) and the plots are rather generic. (Experiment gone wrong, etc) But this one had nothing to offer, IMO. I heard somewhere that Red Faction is a lame copy of this game, but I find myself preferring it over Half-Life any day of the week. The weapons are uninspiring and the enemies aren't that amazing at all. (With the sole exception of the Marines and those face-hugger like things) I must confess, though, that the missions are good, but this is not enough to hold my attention for long.

This is merely and opinion, but you sure as hell need to rent it first before you buy it.
