Not bad, but 25 identical levels gets repetitive.

Half Life is a pretty decent game, BUT... every level is exactly the same, there are only about 5 different weapons, and about 5 different bad guys. Not the excitement or variety you'd expect from PS2. It just keeps going and going and going, no cut scenes or change ups.

Dont buy games with steam activation!

The hype gets to everyone, then you just go with the status

quo and not dare post a realistic review so that your friends

or the herd of human sheep look at you like you are a moron.

The game is fun, I have to say. Some of the gameplay though at

times is repetitive, but most of it is innovative/entertaining.

The graphics are NOT the best. Painkiller and Doom 3

deserve that title.

The price is not too hefty for the collectors, you are getting

the old half life, half life 2 and counter strike as well as a

useless booklet and a lame tshirt which I threw away after

the steam activation nightmare.

Those are the good points.

Here are the bad:

The steam activation process is one of the most frustrating

experiences encountered in my life.

It makes microsoft and symantec product activation literally

walks on the beach with your woman compared to the

nightmare that the Steam process is.

You need to be online in order to activate and download

unknown files off their server in order to authenticate.

This can, if you are lucky be done in 30-60 minutes and up to

several hours or days depending on their server.

I can understand Valve's concern over illegal copying, and all

the crackers, hackers, and other useless swine are to blame

for our misery.

I do not copy games or any software

but still must pay for the crimes of others.

I want to put a game in my computer and play it not having to

go through a frustrating activation and endless

verification downloads that do not always work.

This is my first and last game with the steam activation that

I buy. I dont care how good of a game it is, it is not worth it

if you cant play it.

Most time i spent playing my PS2

for u ps2 owners out there, you owe it to yourself to buy Half-Life at all costs! I garuntee u will spend 3 hours a day playing this game. The game is so damn good! The graphics are improved and look almost like half life 2. Plus it includes a co-op game called Half life:Decay. I havent played it yet, but i can safley say that anyone with a PS2 has got to buy this game or else you will miss the most exciting, fun, and entertaining game ever to be released on the Ps2!

A Major Disappointment!

When I asked for Half Life for Christmas I thought that I was going to be blown away with incredible game play and fantastic graphics, but I was very disappointed. This game does not even harness the power of PS2's graphics; its graphics are identical to that of a PS one game that went wrong. Could the beginning be any more boring and tedious? Like the gamer really cares about every single detail there is to know about the Black Mesa Corporation. The controls are pathetic; the plot is confusing, mediocre, and poorly portrayed; the weapons don't have any special qualities; and the multiplayer is just a joke. The audio is also appalling- sharp and annoying explosions that sound and look fake take any sign of hope away from this game. Definitely rent this title before buying it! FPS Enthusiasts Beware: You may hate Vicendi Universal forever!

Seems a little odd...

Why are they releasing this for PS2? Half-life is a great game, but for $50 and if it has nothing new in it i'm not buying. Maybe if it included every expansion or some cool stuff like that it would be good... guess the late release date is because they have to port it. Seems odd. I gave it 5 stars anyway because hl rox.

Please hear me out before you say I'm a strange guy for not liking Half-Life.

I never actually played the game- I watched my younger cousin play the game. Watching him play I got the feeling Half-Life is pretty much nothing but running around -VERY quickly- shooting things. I don't know if maybe my cousin was just really good at the game, or maybe the character is supposed to run around THAT quickly. Or maybe my cousin DID have it on hyper mode. Either way, it wasn't that fun to watch because you pretty much ZOOM through doors and hallways. Maybe it's more fun to PLAY, I don't know.

It appeared from watching him play that basically all you do is run around as quickly as you can shooting the small amount of enemies that happen to cross your path while exploring a big, clunky government facility. There's a bunch of games like that on the first Playstation, or rather, a bunch of games not much different. Half-Life also has puzzles, but they seemed rather simple to complete. It's possible the puzzles are more difficult to FIND than to complete seeing as how the game is so HUGE.

Watching my cousin dash through what seemed like a countless amount of hallways and doors, I got the impression the game wasn't very interesting. I'm a video game fan from the Playstation One days, and Half-Life just didn't do much in the way of separating itself from most Playstation games (besides having better graphics and MUCH bigger and longer areas to explore, of course).

Actually, I was expecting the graphics in Half-Life to look really good because the Playstation 2 is supposed to be a graphically appealing gem, but the graphics in Half-Life were actually not much of an improvement compared to many Playstation One graphics. I KNOW the Playstation 2 has better examples of wonderful graphics than in this game; I'm just saying they weren't that good.

I don't know. Don't hate me for not liking it. I'm sure it's actually a good game and that it's simply a matter of waiting until the day comes when I can appreciate the new style of video games. As long as storylines are dominating video games, however, it probably won't be anytime soon.

This game sucked

i've been waiting for this some time now. i've read up on the ps2 version and it is the same as the original, but with better graphics, of course some of the weapons have been modified some, but they all have the same effect. it does have an extra bonus of a short 2-person mission, but your to chicks. so if you can get over the fact of being a woman in it, i guess it'll be fun. the game has mouse and keyboard support through the usb ports for those that prefer it. sadly, there is no online game included, so we'll have to wait for counter-strike, if they make it.

NO WAY...

Half life is my favorite game... I loved playing counterstrike, Day of Defeat and many of itz other mods... I spent countless hours in internet cafes playing till dawn... however i am dissapointd that a game which is meant to be a multiplayer game is made for single player... i have played the single player mode on my computer, but a Playstaion2 game???!!! First there is no multiplayer.... and i think that reason is enough... half life is game for multiplayers a PS2 version destroyed this game...

probably going to one of the best games on the PS2.

This has got to be one of the best games on the PC right now and i cant wait until it comes out on the PS2 but the only down side about these games on consoles is the cotrols thats why I gave it four stars But but other than that it still an excellent game. When I first saw this game at my cousins house it was the coolest game I have ever seen I mean it has a great story line, good graphics, and massive worlds and on the PS2 its going to be great cause you can play 1-4 players and you dont have to buy four PCs to play the game with all of your friends and that's a major + any way I just cant wait for this awesome game to come out on the PS2.
