Oni, way to real

Oni is a very beautiful game with all its stage and caracters. However one may try to put how good the game is, it will be hard to prove so in practice. I am confident to say that I am quite a hard person to frustrate, but this game annoyed me so much I almost broke the controller. Its much too hard to get used to the controls(use all buttons) and to fight the opponents it is impossible. They always comes in bunchs and with weapons, which makes virtually to kill some of them! The weapons are one of the worst things in the game. It's so hard to aim and get the opponent that its not even funny. Plus, they always have the recoil, which can be said to make the game real, but only ... you off. I would strongly recommend you to rent this game before buying it, because I made the mistake of buying as soons as it came out and I can say that I WASTED MONEY ON THIS GAME! So if you wanna try it, go ahead, but do not buy it if you haven't played yet! You will regret!

Siphon filter continued

When I picked this game up from the local rental store I was not sure what to expect. The back graphics were not forthcoming on the game and many of my friends had recommended it. To keep this review short I will refer anyone that has played the game siphon filter to replay the game in order to understand what Oni is. Using a dual motion control that has been used in time splitters and 007 the game offers allot of control while sacrificing pliability. I am sure that many more adept game players can use this system but for those of you that want an easy game to play this is probably not it.

Continuing through the levels a rather simple common plot of conspiracy unfolds with each great revelation coming as subtle as an elephant, but does keep the desperate gamer playing. At least as long as it is possible, now I know that there are people that have beaten the game but I found the jump in difficulty between one level and the next to be too extreme and prevents many people from enjoying the plot that has been building for such a long time.

In conclusion I would highly recommend this game to be rented by anyone that wants to play it. There is not enough replay value to it to match up to its price tag and for those of you that like such a game will be able to beat it in the weekend that you rent it for.

...is ONI.

You see, I actually borrowed this game from the library for PC, after hearing several bad reviews about it (seeing if they were right, heh). However, after burning it and playing it, I was engulfed in ONI's world...for an hour or so. Then it became difficult, unless you abused the several combos that were built in the game, which made it extremely easy.

But all in all, ONI seems to be a normal adventure game. Sure, you're in a third-person perspective and you fire guns and everything. Maybe the storyline is a little original. ONI would be extraordinary...if it were not for the fact that most games have that "extraordinary" ONI touch. Tch. Skip it, unless you want to be entertained for an hour. Then dump it.

Oni is such a class game, although the Graphics are a bit [plain] looking but the gameplay is awsome, the Story is class also and so is the plot. I don't usually like PC gaming i usually prefer Consoles. I don't like the PS2 cause i think its a bit over rated just cause its made by sony doesn't mean its the most excellent console in the world but if your into Third Person, Shooters, hand to hand combat games or Anime you'll enjoy this game it kept me going i could play it all night and not get sick of it.

Not worth a dime

This is the worst PS2 game I have ever played. Boring, repetitive backgrounds, uninteresting weapons and characters, awkward control scheme, all on one disk. I bought this game used a while ago for $12.00 and I still feel ripped off.

Did I mention the graphics? This game was released close to the time of the PS2 launch, and it shows. There are also some serious clipping issues.

Simply put: Oni isn't worth your time.

A decent action game but.....

Oni is an excellent game in terms of storyline and action. The game takes place in the future as a renegade cop by the name of Konoko. As the story unfolds Konoko begins to learn haunting secrets of her past such as the situation with her family, her past life, and her true identity. This is where she goes berserk and renegade. Konoko possesses a variety of martial arts moves/skills and learns new techniques as she progresses throughout her quest. Such skills she learns such as Weapon Disarm, and Rising Fury Punch are certain to come in handy in the latter parts of the game. So where do Oni's flaws lie?

GLITCHES- When I heard of the glitches Oni contained, I had no idea (for most games contain glitches regardless of how beautiful they may appear)they were this bad. Fallen characters can be seen throughout other sides of walls. I noticed at times when I'd punch a character near a wall that they'd sometimes get stuck in between the walls and wouldn't be able to come out. There is also a bad glitch to when Konoko presses a generator (to access a locked room) at a certain angle, she'd sometimes get stuck and continue to keep walking into generator uncontrollably. Because of this glitch, I was forced to reset the game and start over from a previous save data.
SLOWDOWN- While some parts of the game run at lightning-fast speed, others don't. With more than four characters on screen at once, the game moves at a horribly slow pace. This is an exception pain in the @$$ when trying to escape from the clutches of three or more enemies surrounding the player all at one time.
No platform grab implemented- Often at times, when forced to jump from one platform to another I would miss by mere centimeters and die, forcing me start over due to the not being able to grab onto a platform when close to it. This got so bad at one point, that I was forced to use a cheat code to play as a characters that could at farther ranges than Konoko such as the ninjas.
No multiplayer mode- The game was promised to contain one and never did.

While these flaws are tolerable, I still enjoyed playing Oni, due to it's excellent plot. I finished the entire game and was left wanting more. I'd advise anyone who is a fan of Japanese anime to give Oni a try.

Do please rent this title

Despite all the reviews I read on this game, I rather enjoyed it. I did however beat the whole thing in less than 24 hours, owing not to my gaming prowess, but rather to the lack of having a life. Ha ha ha. Anyways, I thought the 3-D environments were interesting, and easier to navigate due to their sparse nature. They gave the game the not so distant future feel. What was difficult was when you actually fought. The controls are a bit aggrivating, and the enemies skill at exploiting that fact get better with each level. You can forget about using weapons at long ranges until you get either the rail-gun like weapon, or the screaming cannon thingy. The screaming cannon is one of the more creative innovations in weapons I have seen in games. Basically you shoot it at your target, and it stalks the poor person as it drains them of life. Some victims actually whimper, and say things like I don't want to die.

And for all you saddists out there, there are "innocent" civilians you can beat up and kill. They whimper, and beg for their lives too! Just make sure you don't start abusing them until they give you something, like hypo's, or ammo clips.

Lastly there are codes available for this game. Some make you tiny, huge, help you to change your character, make your head enormous, or make you invisible. They enhance replayability.... Another down side is that they removed the multi player feature before release. Too bad, it might have been fun. Overall, I think the game deserves 4 stars for entertaining me, and making me laugh out loud at a few points. So rent it first to see if you like it.
