This game is amazing, the graphics, the weapons, and the plot are just a few of the great things in this game.If your tired of doing the solo game you can battle against simulants with everything from Flame throwers and Fusion rocket launchers to Sniper Rifles and Rail guns.this game never gets boring.Solo missions arn't to easy so the game is challenging and you can play 2 player for up to 30 minutes at a time! This game is worth buying.

I bought this game a few days after it came out, and I have to say, that this game rocks. It takes the PS2 to it's full capacity, with breathtaking graphics, a great story line, and excellent gameplay. It's the next half-life!!! But what makes the game truly awesome , besides it's fantastic gameplay, graphics, and sound, is the that you can blow up ALMOST ANY WALL!!! Have you ever had a door that you just couldn't unlock on half-life or any other 1st person shooter? And you just get so mad you wanna shout? Well, than this is the game for you. for this game, all you have to do is get out your R-launcher, take a well-aimed shot,and......KA-BOOM!!! Your problems are solved. Be warned tough, you cannot destroy well-reinforced walls or doors(obviously). So with this unique feature, and it's excellent gameplay, graphics, and sound; I rate this a 5-star game(I would make it a 10-star game, but unfortunatly, you can't do that). If you buy this game, trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Let me tell you what all others aren't!!

This game is not the best FPS on PS2, it's a good game but not the best. Let me tell you some of the negatives about it. First off the graphics are not the greatest, you can definately tell this was one of the original releases for PS2. Next the multiplayer is sorely lacking, if your looking for a game with a great multiplayer option go with unreal tournament. The geo mod part of this game gets alot of hype, and while it is definately cool it is not all that everyone says it is, just an added feature that deserves slight admiration but nothing worthy of giving the game "game of the year" honors. My last negative about this game is the constant loadings. This is a great feature as well as a negative feature about the game. Red Faction has no levels, it is a constant storyline, so instead of ending one level then loading another you simply load in the middle of walking from one section to another. The problem with this is that it seems to me the time between loads is very short, in some sections of the game your loading every couple of minutes.

Now I'll tell you the positives and then you can make an informed decision on whether or not to purchase this game. The main positive is the story line, I won't give it away for you but for some reason it reminds me a little of Total Recall (maybe for the fact that both take place on Mars). The next positive is the fact that you can save at any point in the game, there are no save points, so if you just got done with a really difficult section then you just save the game and you don't have to do that section again (just watch out becaust you start at the same life you saved at so don't save if you're almost dead). And the last really cool part of this game is the vast aray of weapons you can choose from, 14 in all, and most weapons have a regular fire mode and an alternate fire mode which will do something a little diffirent, such us a different rate of fire on the machine gun or unscrewing the fuel cannister on the flame thrower and using it as an incindiary bomb.

Now that you know some of the negatives and positives about this game you can make up your own mind on whether or not to purchase this game. I was fooled a little with all this talk of "the best FPS game for the PS2" and "the geo mod mode is totally cool" but I will tell you that I do think the game is well worth the ... price tag.

Better Red Than Dead

I have seen the reviews for this game and have seen the live-action videos. I have followed the gamer magazines and have planned to add this game to my collection. It is apparently what Goldeneye was to N64 and what Medal of Honor was to PS1. But, Here is what I can tell you about the game: Welcome to Mars. A mining operation located on the surface is run by the evil Ultor corporation. And you? the player? You are a miner, mistreated by the guards of the facility and have taken the last straw so the flag of revolt is raised and fighting ensues. You fight your way across Mars with somewhere around 15 or 18 weapons (Each with their own secondary operation). You can take vehicles and destroy and annihilate anything almost at will. The game runs at a fast rate from the real-time vids I've seen, so I can expect this game in my collection. I wish to recommend the same to you. Better Red Than Dead

Been There, Done That

The minute the training session of 'Red Faction' loaded up I couldn't shake the sense of deja vous I was having. The more I got into the game the stronger the sense until it struck me that 'Red Faction' borrows strongly from the PC first-person shooter of the year 'Half-Life.' Of course the later is a far superior title even though it was released more than 2 years ago.
Something about 'Red Faction's execution feels slightly lacking. I don't know if it's the boring enemy design, the inconsistent AI or the somewhat uninspired weaponry. I desperately wanted the game to throw a curve ball my way but instead it kept plugging along in a predictable manor, once and a while exploiting it's lone innovative features of blowing holes in walls and driving numerous vehicles.

I really want to discuss the AI. At times it can be incredibly intuitive and puts up a decent fight but most of the time it jogs in circles and then runs away. It's annoying how almost every enemy says 'Don't shoot! I am unarmed!' even though they are holding a gun and most of the time shooting you as they say it. Plus their 'threat/taunt' phrases are totally repetitive and overused. Specking of repetitive, for a good part of the game all enemys's look the same, blue palette swaps of yourself. It gets boring shooting the same people, that are saying the same things and reacting the same way.
The AI for everything else (red miners, scientists) is terrible. I cannot tell you how many times a fellow miner said 'Follow me this way and I'll show you the way out!' only to run spastically away from me and into a guard that kills them. Almost every time.

The general atmosphere of the game is effective but very similar that of 'Half-Life.' The mood is tense but exhilarating. Yet 'Red Faction' doesn't have the incredibly unnerving calm 'Half-Life' has before you are suddenly attacked.
The graphics are amazing, and the game moves at an incredible 60 FPS but dives on occasion. Explosion effects range from incredible (blowing holes in wall with rocket launcher) to sub-par (destroying a huge tank only to get a pathetic ball of fire). Lighting is consistent and effective. Character models are average, except for facial build/animation, which is lacking.

The multiplayer is no Golden Eye. The lack of features makes it's novelty die fast. If only Sony would get their internet multiplayer off the ground. This game could have benefited from an insane online deathmatches. Especially if they found a way to incorporate the vehicles. Though right now this is largely a single player game, the multiplayer feels too half-baked.

The reason this game is so well received is due to the fact that it rips great features from great FSP titles (HALF-LIFE, Golden Eye, Perfect Dark) and roles it all into one neat package. Yes, blowing up walls is fun, but hardly enough to call this title original.

A guy named Parker

This is a true PS2 classic. This is a quality fps, period.

Even today, you can bust it out, and appreciate the Geo-Mod technology, which enables you to destroy the environment, a feature missing from too many games. There's copious blood, a flamethrower, a 'photon' cannon, and grenades. Best of all, this game will destroy your TV sound system with the number of explosions. If you try a deathmatch, the sheer insanity of the pace will blow your speakers and slow down the game considerably, adding to the fun, actually.

This was a moment when they got it just right, and for a few bucks it's a fun game. Oh, and the regular mission game is good as well. You play a guy simply known as 'Parker', who is a miner on Mars, fighting the evil corporation, or something to that effect.

Highly recommended.

Good Solid Game

This game is a lot of fun. There are realistic weapons such as pistols, shotguns, machine guns, then there are unrealistic weapons such as the fusion rocket launcher. It is also lots of fun that you get to pilot four different types of vehicles. The Geo-Mod thing is really cool also, in which you can destroy certain parts of the environment with the more explosive weapons. This last feature however shows up more in the multiplayer than it does in the single player (so far). The graphics are good, not spectacular, but everything looks fairly good. This game unlike many of the other first person shooters for playstation 2 actually has a single player mode, that is just as fun as the multiplayer. The only really annoying thing about this game is that everytime you think you are about to find someone who can help you out, they conveniently get shot by some guard. The other thing is the difficulty. The easy setting is really easy, but the medium setting is 1000 times harder. Otherwise, this is a really good game, and if you liked something such as half-life or quake II, I suggest you buy it.

One of the best!

I am not going to go on and on here. Most adults buying games for their own PS2 do the research before buying, like myself. I do not buy a game unless it has positive feedback. I have had this game for over a week now and have put many hours in it, thinking it was going to end, but it just keeps going, which is great. The graphics are very good, but the gameplay, action, and length of this game make it a good investment. I too have been disappointed by short games for the PS2 so far. My three favorite games so far are Madden 2001, Armored Core 2, and this one. If you like first person shooters like I do, then do yourself a favor and buy it. You will grow to love it. Its one of those games that you start playing and aren't extremely impressed, but as it goes on and on, you go from pretty good to awesome. We all know that the games that are like that end up being our favorites. Still, I look forward to Metal Gear: Sons of Liberty and Gran Turismo 3, but until then, this is a great game to tide you over.

This game was great. Its also the first FPS shooter for PS2 (you know, with a story and stuff) I'll tell you about the good stuff first. Nice graphics, a very good story, a good choice of weapons, you get to drive an assorted range of vehicles, from subs to airplane things, it has Geo-Mod technology which allows you to destroy the evironment, making new doors, tunnels, and big huge holes! This game is really everything you would want in an FPS. But. Now the cons. The graphics can get a bit dark and hard to see. If you have a s-video cable, the problem is slightly fixed. But thats a VERY minor problem, so don't worry about it. Another bad thing is the multiplayer. Its only mediocre. And last, its short. You might end up saying "Wait, wha? Its done? .... If your looking for a challenge when dealing with bosses, they arent all too tough. But anyway, overall this game is definetely a MUST BUY. Its very good. And beleive me, I ONLY buy the best games.

Completely Disappointing

I rented this game, and I'm glad I did, because I was actually thinking about buying. I found the graphics unimpressive, the gameplay stale, and the GeoMod to be completely overhyped. So you can blow holes in walls...great. How about cutscenes that don't sound like they're written by 12-year olds or gameplay that engages? I really felt that this game was, at the very best, just another first person shooter, and a pretty boring one at that.
