Jumpgate Rocks. Here's Why.

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 2

Jumpgate has new challenges every time you get in the cockpit. From landing your first time at a station, to getting kills in deep space, the game is difficult, yet very fun. Jumpgate has types of missions for everyone. Want to be a rock hugger? Jump in your cockpit, grab a mining laser and go! Wanna rule with cash? Start out by delivering cargo. Wanna just hang out with friends and do whatever? Start your own squad and do what you want. Just be warned. The game is HIGHLY addictive.

Great game...but hard to learn...

I was on the beta test team and during that time the good foaks over at netdevil added more weapons, equipment, and ships and they will continue to do so...but like it said hard to learn... you need to read the whole manual to learn how to do the most basic things, but once you get past that the game get easy to use. With this game you can pop in for 1 hour and do some missions thenleave it for a week and go back in with no problem

ELITE - The MMORG

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 2

This is a fantastic game. The true follow up to Elite. Recent changes to the game (the tutorials etc) make a big difference to new players and make the game much easier to get started with.
It can be a little dull initially, but then all MMORGs are. Unlike most MMORGs this one is not purely about combat.

I can't wait to get mine!

As a beta-tester of Jumpgate for the last 2 years of developement I've seen this project grow, have growing pains, and overcome them. I have got to say this is the BEST space combat/trading/exploration/mining game that I have EVER played.

The flight model may be hard for those who are accustomed to an atmospheric model, ie the typical flight simulator, but once used to it, the "physics" of the game are easy to deal with.

You will start with a basic ship, configured with varing strengths and weaknesses based on the "faction" that you choose to join when initially choosing your pilot.

My only qualm about this game is if you wish to have a additional pilot, perhaps of a different faction, you will have to pay additional monthly charges.

NetDevil has created, and 3DO is marketing one of the most engaging space sims that I have come accross to date!

Truly excellent. . . the next generation of massively online

I have been a beta test for Jumpgate for almost a year. This is the game I have been waiting for since Privateer. Yeah, it's kinda slow at times but that's when you can stir up your own trouble :-)

Forget swords and sorcery give me Barracks and Morning stars (for the uninitiated that big guns and missiles).

An open-ended space-sim roleplay masterpiece

I started playing Jg about a month and a half ago. I've put many hours into the game and have progressed to a relatively high level. I think I have a pretty good handle on the game and can review it a little better than someone who has played for a few days and quit.

JG is a MMOG that is expected to last for at least 3 years. Things move a little slow at first but you need to learn what you are doing to be able to survive in higher levels. I guess you could say there is a steep learning curve. If you're looking for a shoot 'em up space game with no roleplay, look elsewhere.

As I play more I find more and more that roleplaying is an integral and necessary part of the game. There is no set story line per say but a general outline that the players can work within. Much of this roleplay takes place on the jumpgate bbs. Players meet there and make in character posts that actually sway the in-game plots. An example is Squad A declaring war on Squad B in a neutral sector or things similar to this. The plot is only limited by your imagination.

As a matter of fact, the web content outside of the game is just as important as the in-game content. Features on various sites such as best profit calculators, asteroid coordinates, commodities info, etc. are all accesed by alt-tabbing out of the game so you can check these resources while still playing.

If your looking for an extremely involved game that requires more thought with your actions, Jumpgate is for you. Hope to see you in game.

BEST space game available

I played many space sims, starting with X-Wing and Elite, ending with Descent (all of it) Freespace 1 and 2, Tachyon and others. This game beats them all by far. It is so unique, because of one simple fact - other pilots in the game are not stupid AI, but people, like you and me. They all have their characters and behave differently. You can join in squads with them or fight and kill a guy, who wasn't nice to you. There is no limit to the game. It's a real jewel - one of its kind.

OK, It's actually pretty fun

Well, I have to amend my 2-star review of this game. It's pretty much got me hooked, and I have a fun time with it. The developers have made a few changes to the game that perk it up a bit, and the game is deep enough to where you can grow into it. The only remaining problem I have with the game is that it does take a while to figure out how to really enjoy it. When you first start out running transport or mining missions it can be a bit tedious. The solution I found to this is to occasionally enter the "simulator" mode and get some heated PVP combat practice. Joining an active squad is also quite helpful to game enjoyment. The game continues to be actively developed, so it continues to grow and improve. If you give it a chance, this one's a winner!

This game ROCKS!!

I have been playing JumpGate for over a year now and I must say that the game has yet to get old. It has to be the best money I've spent on a PC game yet. The Graphics are great, the sim is so real you feel like your realy there. The best part of all is the people that play it. Some players like to RP(Role Play) their charater while others are just themselfs. This gams is just to great to discribe...
