Well actually

I give this game a fair rating. Though you can download the game for free at jossh.com, buying this game is pretty optional if you want the 30 day free instead of the 10 day free trial for this game.

Anyways, the problem with this game is that the graphics are way out dated and the developers refuses to up the sys specs to just make the graphics better, but the game play is excellent with its unique flight engine, especially when its challanging when it comes to hauling commodites. As for the playerbase for this game, sadly, theres not enough players for this game to go around so thats the reason I left jumpgate for a reason. Another reason is that the size of the universe is small. Plenty of useless ships in the game which are not PvP worthy. Plus, it would also take ungodly amount of your time to just practice PvP in the simulator. There is too much work, not enough play. It's like doing your 2nd chores. Dying in PvP is quite expensive as well. The only type of playerbase that is left are the hardcore players.

The learning curve for this game is kind of hard compared to the other space games using arcade flight engine.

If you are new to this game, and a fairly experienced pvper that wants to cause trouble only in the deregulated sectors or play a role as a pirate, I would recommend that you don't do it until this game gets a lot more players just because the whole player base would go after you.

The last I would like to say is that at least they improved the light fighters to make it go faster than fighter class(which is level 26).

I wish my luck to the developers to start putting this game into marketing soon.

This game is frustrating because when you purchase it it seems like a good buy but the actual truth is that you can only play it multiplayer online and, when you decide to get online to play, first you have to pay a registration fee and then a monthly usage fee and not to mention for the time on the internet through your local internet provider. Overall it is a bad program design UNLESS you are willing to pay all the fees.

This game ROCKS!!

I have been playing JumpGate for over a year now and I must say that the game has yet to get old. It has to be the best money I've spent on a PC game yet. The Graphics are great, the sim is so real you feel like your realy there. The best part of all is the people that play it. Some players like to RP(Role Play) their charater while others are just themselfs. This gams is just to great to discribe...

Do not buy this unless you are prepared to pay the server

This game requires the player to pay a monthly fee to the server. The game can only be played in multiplayer on the server. Unless you are willing to pay monthly; do not purchase this silly game...

Well, I have to amend my 2-star review of this game. It's pretty much got me hooked, and I have a fun time with it. The developers have made a few changes to the game that perk it up a bit, and the game is deep enough to where you can grow into it. The only remaining problem I have with the game is that it does take a while to figure out how to really enjoy it. When you first start out running transport or mining missions it can be a bit tedious. The solution I found to this is to occasionally enter the "simulator" mode and get some heated PVP combat practice. Joining an active squad is also quite helpful to game enjoyment. The game continues to be actively developed, so it continues to grow and improve. If you give it a chance, this one's a winner!

Incredible!!

Through sheer scope and magnitude 3DO has created one of the most impressive games to date. Every time you log in you are guaranteed a new experience as the combination of software upgrades, and player agendas ensure an ever changing environment. This game is not for the individuals who can not commit the time, and effort through the first several levels as initial game play is slow and frustrating. However as soon as you begin upgrading your personal resources, weapons, and financial resources this game really takes off. A must have for anyone who enjoys combat flight SIM's with political overtones.

This is a great game!

BEST space game available

I played many space sims, starting with X-Wing and Elite, ending with Descent (all of it) Freespace 1 and 2, Tachyon and others. This game beats them all by far. It is so unique, because of one simple fact - other pilots in the game are not stupid AI, but people, like you and me. They all have their characters and behave differently. You can join in squads with them or fight and kill a guy, who wasn't nice to you. There is no limit to the game. It's a real jewel - one of its kind.

Locks up on 2 different computers

I was really looking forward to playing this game, but every time I try to dock or crash into something, the game locks up. I've tried it on two different computers, both of them fairly up-to-date, and had the same problem. Jumpgate support was not very helpful. They offered to exchange the game but wouldn't give me a refund. I'm not interested in any of their other games so I guess I'm out of luck.

(...). There are some inbalances which result in most of the top pilots belonging to the same faction. There is a 10 hour safety period where noone can kill you if you have just started, which helps a lot. Flying takes a lot of getting used to. Without a joystick it is nearly impossible. I found it annoying that when I selected joystick+keyboard as the control method, all of the controls were on the joystick. I had to assign the controls that would intuitivly belong to the keyboard back to the keyboard. Luckly the controls are 100% customizable.

If the game had worked 100% then I could give it a more complete review.
