This game is awesome. You build your theme park from the ground up. Hire staff, position entertainers all of it. Design new roller coasters, upgrade existing ones. The game is easy to learn and play. Just make sure you don't have somewhere your supposed to be when you start playing.

Once I got started on this game I couldn't stop. It feels so real and you get so into it. I love it, and seriously recommend it. If you love this game, get the expansion pack to complete your addiction...
For those of you who are thinking about buying it, I'll explain. When playing this, you become the manager of an amusement park. You can build silly little carnival rides or death defying rollercoasters. You can build monorails and ice cream stalls. It is very like real life, as well: If a ride is too boring, people skip it, or if a roller coaster is too freaky or too nauseating, they'll skip that too. Umbrellas sell better when it is raining. These little details make it hard to remember it's just a game.
About the little people: Some people have certain preferences about their type of ride. To know what someone likes, you can give them a name, track them, even read their thoughts and vital stats.
The one thing extremely unrealistic is this. Watch a person come into the park. Wait a "year" in the game. Then check the box that tells you how long he's been in there. It'll claim he has only been there three hours, or whatever. Also, all the people are guys, with the same haircut and face. That kinda bothered me but in the grand scheme of this game I didn't really think about it.
Hope this was helpful!

I don't really like computer games, but I love this one. It's diverse enough that my nine year old can play easily and I can play with some more complicated features. It's fun to achieve the goals of one park and move on to the next. This game has a number of different features that always keeps it interesting, even when the people turn green and throw up after a coaster ride. I'm hooked!

This is an excellent game. It is great for roller coaster fans and simulation game lovers. It is very fun and addictive. You get to choose from 14 different types of roller coasters to design and build. You also get to design your own log flumes, go kart tracks, car rides, and walk-through mazes! You can also choose from a large variety of rides, shops and stalls, and scenery and theming objects. The game also teaches important business management skills. You have to make sure you stay far away from debt and keep your guests happy. This is truly a great game.

I've played Sim Theme Park, but Roller Coaster Tycoon leaves that game in the dust. Unlike its counterpart, Roller Coaster Tycoon is so much more fun and challenging in some aspects. The only thing the game lacks is graphics. Overall, its one of the most addictive games yet. I have incountered a few minor problems, therefore a patch is still not in a "must need" basis. If you think this is really boring then let me sum it up to this. If you like ok graphics and a complex, hard to understand game, then go with Sim Theme Park. If you like a game with ok graphics, non-stop action and an overall fun and addictive game, definatly go with Roller Coaster Tycoon. (Which I strongly recommend) Thanks!

When I first got this game it was fun but the building options were limited. As you play more of this addictive game, it becomes very fun and you can build more and more. There is nothing I can think of that was left out! Building your own rollar coasters is probably the best feature of the game if you get used to it. At first it is difficult to make your ride a complete circut but if you have no problem with building your own rides then there is no telling how far you can go! It also has enough leavels unlike "Sim Theme Park" to keep you playing non-stop!
The people in the game are very realistic and will barf on your paths after being on a ride that was too intense. You can click on anyone and find out things like how much $ they have, feeling, comments etc.
The biggest problem with the game is clearing all those damn trees for your rides. You can only clear one at a time and is frustrating.
Overall this game is probably one of the best computer games I have ever encountered and is worth much more than it is selling for. I is alot like sim city in that you must manage your $ and not borrow too much. It is not too hard or easy to beat each leval which I think is a feature many people would like!

Great game even if you have slow computer. It is confusing at the beginning but after15 minutes you love it. Not need of a 3D CARD EITHER. works well with a pentium 166mhz ( Very slow). Great game if you are over 12 years old, it may get confusing if you are younger. But overall, worthwhile to pay the price.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Thsi game is MUCH better the Sim Theme Park. STP is not a thraet to RCT. Buy this game not Sim Theme Park.

I've played this game for hours and hours and hours. It is amazingly addictive. The graphics are beautifully rendered, the interaction seamless and the possibilities endless.
You are given the skeleton of a basic them park and a goal (i.e. you need x number visitors in your park by such a date) and off you go. You build rides, designing roller coasters, water rides, go kart tracks etc. All of this costs money and you need to budget in order to afford better rides. The simulation is quite realistic from a demand-and-supply point of view. If you create a roller coaster that is too intimidating, nobody will ride it...better yet, they will ride it and come off green-faced and ready to throw up!
You're up and running in minutes. You don't have to read the manual, but it helps, especially as you advance in the games. The rides are intriguing and varied, as are the scenarios. The best thing for me is that my daughter (10) and I play this together because it's ageless. You don't need the same skills as you might for Sim City.
Try it out. We've been playing it for months.

Don't be fooled by the design, this is an excellent game. There are plenty of rides to build, coasters, merry go rounds, observer towers, 3d cinemas, motion simulators, e.t.c. Park managment is easy, with graphs and plenty statistics to manage your cash flow or park value. The only problem with Roller Coaster Tycoon is the time it takes to pass a year is around 90 minutes. Some of the scenarios require you to do it in 4 years, so expect to be playing for a long while. Though i must say time seems to pass fast because it is not boring. And they just released the expansion to this giving you more rides and scenarios, its really great.

After I started playing this game, I realized that I had a history of Simulation Addiction -- having played five or more simulations, including the recent hit "The Sims." Roller Coaster Tycoon is definitely one of the best sims out there (and there are many other theme park sims to choose from).
The interface takes a short time to get familiar with, but is very simple and easy to operate. The graphics are great (could you use this program to design a real rollercoaster? Looks like it to me!), the levels each have different goals and features. I especially appreciated all the different theme landscaping available, including Greek and Roman architecture, Wonderland theming (giant chess pieces, candy, mushrooms, etc), and Wild West props. The rollercoasters are a blast to build, but not simple to master. After 20+ rollercoasters, I have yet to build the perfect ride.
My only problem was with the 3/4 view -- at some points it's hard to see what's going on with your rollercoaster as it interacts with other rides and the landscaping. This problem was easy to solve, as the view options allow you to "turn off" the rollercoaster supports, landscaping, paths, or anything else that gets in your line of sight.
I heartily recommend this to any fan of simulation games in the vein of Sim City, Theme Hospital, or The Sims. This is a great game with a high addiction factor.
