Once you get tuned in, the most realistic yet!

Having served in the Army Rangers, I must say this is about as realistic as they come. The weapons, distantly blurred ambiguous enemies, and sounds create the unsettling environment combat does. Let's face it, in real combat you rarely get to see your killer (if you did, you deserve what you get!). For all you [other RPG] folks, this game will take a few hours for the eyes to get used to character movements and tempo. It was frustrating at first. Once you do however, the game becomes much more enjoyable. So hang in there! This game is addictive! It seems so realistic that I find now myself quite good at spotting real people on real roof-tops in real buildings. Awesome! The Army should use this for training.

A lot of hype for the bottom line

If you've read the book or seen the movie, then you'd probably expect DF-BHD to be just as exciting and mindblowing. Not so.
Here are what in my opinion are the downs of the game.
#1 - You HAVE to follow the waypoints. Otherwise the mission is aborted. This gives you no freedom to roam around, explore or ambush the enemy.
#2 - A few of the levels are designed poorly and are no fun to play (take the land mine level for example)
#3 - You have limited saves per each level. Saves range from 3-6 and if you run out of saves, you're out of luck.
#4 - The amount of levels is few and you finish the game before you even know it. I finished it in 2 days.
#4 - Last but not least, the game is totally scripted. Everything happens in the same place at the same time. For example, if an enemy blows up a convoy with an RPG, the mission is over. You can then go back to your save game and expect to have the same enemy in the same place shooting at your convoy at the same time it did before.
Bottom line, DF-BHD is a fair/good game, but for me it did not totally live up to my expectations.

Disgrace and Dishonor? Maybe not...

Well, I've seen this game in action and I must say that it's pretty impressive compared to the other titles in the series. For those who want a mix of Counter-Strike, Ghost Recon and the movie itself, look no further. I must say that I understand how Jason Page feels, but rather than portray a disgrace and dishonor to the soldiers who lost their lives, I believe the game instead gives us a chance to relive the courage, valor and bravery of those men who fought hard in those two days. It also helps remind us of the good cause that they fought for - for the peace and freedom of the Somalian citizens. True, many were massacred, and for that reason we can all be reminded of how lucky we are to be living such peaceful and unoppressed lives. If Delta Force: Black Hawk Down were to be considered a dishonor, then I guess Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Battlefield 1942 are even worse off... which of course, they are not.

Almost Ghost Recon'ish, not so much Delta Force

I have the purchased version and I must say that the first thing you notice is the awesome graphics. I give it an A+. Given that, the first problem is the name. Delta Force V: Black Hawk Down. What they should have called it was just Black Hawk down because this game isn't really anything like the other Delta Force games and I know because I have every one of them. So if you're looking forward to a better Delta Force game, stick with Land Warrior. That's not to say that this game isn't enjoyable by any means, it's just not really a Delta Force game. In addition to that I'll detail below the good the bad and the ugly in the game thus far. Keep in mind I have not finished it yet.

Good
+ Incredible Graphics.
+ improved night vision
+ lots of close combat with the "skinnies"
+ Can jump on every single mounted gun available
Bad
- Too linear
- They limit the weapons, sometimes to just one
- Redundancy in the weapons

Ugly
- The way points are a must or you're "awol"
- Not nearly as much freedom to roam like the other DF games

Cloaked grenades?!

A few things about this game are annoying:
In one of the missions, when I select the M16 with grenadelauncher, the grenades fly through the walls without exploding. Perhaps they have been fitted with some kind of advanced cloaking device in order to spare precious monumental bunkers? On more than one occassion I have also found that when I try to kill a hostile my team-mates form a human shield around the target, forcing me to fire at them. On another mission (which takes place in total darkness) you rely on night-vision to see what you're doing and the enemy relies on barrels of fire to see what's going on. So obviously you'd want to avoid the barrels at all cost to prevent your detection and consequent execution. But unfortunately the A.I. is so bad that your team-mates eagerly swarm around the fires, and you half expect one of them to pull out a guitar and start singing camp-fire songs.
There are not enough missions to keep me entertained, the A.I. is entirely non-existent and some of the ammunition is a bit too clever for my taste. The only reason I have it is because it came with a new videocard.

Will blow you away...

I played this at the mall a few days ago. A company that tours the country promoting PC and console games had a large display at our mall with approximately 20 stations, and at each station was a console (PS2,Xbox,Gamecube) and also a couple of "Alienware" PC's both running Black Hawk Down.

Let me say that this is the coolest game I have ever played (albeit for a limited time). It felt just like the movie as you ride in a "little bird" to your first objective. The combat was intense as you try to shoot the guys w/ RPG's and try to stop them from shooting your bird down. It took several tries, but eventually I made it to the ground and got killed shortly thereafter.
Instead of a scope like in the earlier Delta Force games, you get an Aimpoint, just like the real DF guys use. Even though my playing time was somewhat limited, it was great fun. Can't wait for it to come out on PS2 (hopefully!!)

One note though, the game was a little choppy at the beginning, and that was on a fully decked out Alienware PC! If you have a "pip squeak" powered PC like me, I wouldn't even bother buying for the PC. Also, shooting from the bird, you couldn't hear your M4 firing all the time. Maybe it was because of the helicopters noise?? Maybe they'll fix these when the game rolls out.

Meant to be played on a high-end graphics card.

I played demo of it on my old geforce 4 graphics card and thought the game looks ugly and not much fun.
A few months ago when I received full version of the game came as bundle with Radeon 9800 pro I didn't even install it. Few weeks ago one boring weekend when I finally had no games to play I thought just try again since I have upgraded my graphics card.

When I finally started the game I couldn't believe my eye. It turned out to be the best FPS game I have. I think it looks better than Unreal 2, Tomb raider: angel of darkness (DirectX 9 game), Hitman2 or halo.

Single player mission is great as each mission has very different and not repetitive.

Music and sound effect is also a top notch. Although some weapon sounds bit different than real, according to my friend who spent 7 year in the army. It didn't matter to me, as I can't tell.

Pros:
The best FPS I have played.
Fantastic graphics! Best Explosion, landscape and night-vision.
Lots of fun single player mission.

Cons:
Stupid AI. Enemies are behaving like pac-man ghost.
Everything is scripted event. No VICE CITY or DEUS EX here.
Make sure you have high-end graphics card otherwise it would look like 3 years old game.

Overall:
Very enjoyable, exciting game with wonderful graphics.

The Demo for BHD was the best demo i ever have played. You come in with RPG's comming from everywhere. It is very realistic. At least you get team members unlike the other delta force games. The Graphics are good, and it is fun. I have heard good reviews from gamespy and other sources. In the first level you are a 10th mountian soldier in a convoey. And you have to save a un convoey that has broken down in the city. And it is intense. The whole game is intense. The 3rd movie even shows a black hawk being shot down. I enjoyed the demo, and the rest of the game looks even better.

Novalogic at it's very best!!!

From beginning to the end of this game you wil be hooked!! The story is familer, if you have seen the movie, read the book or watch the news. BUT actually going through the missions, one by one and fighting through Somalia, is awesome.
I am hopeful that novalogic will choose to do the Desert Storm series, because they deserve it too!! Real world missions, and great graphics are just two of the reasons this is a super game. I paid full price for this game (something I rarely do) and I was so pleased with it.
Only Tom Clancy, and the Rainbow six series match up to this game, and online it is just as fun. Several games to play online, and plenty of people to play on all levels. America's Army is the ONLY game more fun to play online. My advice in a nutshell? GET THIS GAME you will play it several times through.
