The Force is strong with Jedi Power Battles

JPB is THE best Star Wars game ever made. Closely resembling classics such as Streets of Rage or Fighting Force, JPB is an excellent game with great graphics and terrific sound. The control could be a bit better, though. The opening cinema is great. The choice of playable Jedi is a nice alternative to the strict character sets of TPM. Playing as Qui Gon Jinn, Obi-wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, Adi Gallia, or Plo Koon, JPB finally offers freedom in the choice of character selection. The only fault in the game is the problematic jumping. Whatever you do, don't run and jump from a small platform. However, small faults aside, Jedi Power Battles is a fantastic game. You will enjoy it. May the Force be with you. (I'm a Star Wars geek)

Ok...I am a pretty big Star Wars fan, which may hinder one's opinion on this game, but I find this game enjoyable. Because the movie's highlight to me was the lightsaber duels, there is nothing better than being able to swing and deflect with the jedi's weapon. The legions of battle droids are fun to take out, and driving the ATT was amusing, but there are things about this game that can kill the fun rather quickly- for example: level 2 is set with carefully timed jumps, which can quickly prove frustrating. another point is that control at times makes for the worse. when you fight the boss on level 2, you quickly realize that the jedi arent what they are cracked up to be. Even with the fastest character, it's difficult to avoid the bodyslam of a giant maggot. But it's the gratification that once you've conquered that obsticle, that makes the game both fun and challenging. Do or Do not...there is no try....

When I hired Star Wars Eposode 1 Jedi Power Battles (to see if I liked it) I found it to be extremely hard at first. But as I progressed into the game it was surprisingly easy.

Some tips of advice to a new person with Jedi Power Battles do not give up straight away. You should slowly venture into it at a pace you can handle and the first level is in fact harder than 2 or 3.

I suggest when you play Jedi Power Battles you rent it first and do the first level with all the jedi at the same time (one after the other) and use that technique all through the game.

All in all I recommend this game to everyone even though the graphics and game play arent the best and just to prove it I did half the game in a week.

Worse then the Movie

Man, can't the gamemakers at LucasArts ever make a decent game? After the fiasco with the first two games from the Phantom Menace, you would think George Lucas would have fired everyone and hired people who knew how to make good games. Judging by Jedi Power Battles, George Lucas is going for 0 and 3.

Let's start with the good things about the game. First, you can be a Jedi - that's damn cool. Second, you can destroy alot of stuff with a lightsaber, and you have several months. Instead of just swinging it like a blinded yalasmir, you have a variety of real sword moves. Each character (5 available) has unique fighting combos, sorta like Street Fighter. Also you can play 2 players simultaneously.

Now let's go to the bad. First, it's hard. Even at the easy setting, you'll easily die with minutes. Why? Because of the shoddy controls! Apparently Jedis cannot stop and turn around. When you're are running, and a droid comes out of nowhere from behind you, if you move the joystick to the other direction, your character will actually run in a giant circle. It's like he's a car with a 40 ft turning radius! And the worst part is by the time your charcter does a 180, the droids, who've been chasing you the whole time, are now behind you!

You can lock on your enemy by holding down the R1 button, but this feature is useless if you're taking on 3 or more enemies at one time. While you're fighting one enemy, the others will continually shoot you in the back. Then while you're fighting enemy #2, the rest will, yep, you guess it, shoot you in the back.

Then whenever your Jedi does a sword combo, the animation takes so long that droids can run up behind you and shoot you (again, in the back) while you're still doing some lame parry-stab-parry-jump combo.

And whenever you die, instead of restarting where you left off, you restart several screens back, and the same enemies are there also! In the very first level, you'll have to kill several droids, do some jumping (if you miss you die), and then fight a giant robot that continually rams you. If that robot kills you, you continue way back in the beginning, before the jumping, and restart the same droid that had just killed 30 seconds ago! And to make it worse, you only have 5 lives in the entire game, regardless if you're playing by yourself or with a friend. 5 lives for 2 players in a game where enemies constantly shoot you in the back and unnecessary jumping tests is simply not enough,

This is the sort of game you expect from a fledging new company that 1) doesn't have the resources to make a high quality game, or 2) know any better. LucasArts, however, has the money, expertise, resource, etc. to make great games. My Jedi powers tell me that Jedi Power Battles was rushed in development and testing so it could be released in early April, which coincidently enough, is the release date of Star Wars Phantom Menace on VHS.

This is by far the best Star Wars game on the market at the present time. I love this game so much. It allows you to be what most kids wanted to be... a Jedi. When you beat the game as Mace Windu and then beat the endurance round then the game gets really fun, because you have the ultimate saber.

This game is so realistic to the movie. I love it and will recommend it to anyone who asks about it. It shows three jedi that haven't been shown fighting. Plo Koon, Ali Gaddia, and Mace Windu are in the game and none have been shown fighting in the movie, so this is a great introduction to them.

Nothing spectacular here

Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles (2000.)

INTRODUCTION:
Even long after the Galactic Civil War Trilogy of Star Wars films had ended, the series itself did not. The Expanded Universe was born, and from it came books, comics, and plenty of video games. With the arrival of a new prequel trilogy covering the Clone Wars era, it was only natural that lots of Star Wars games would get released. Unfortunately, the market was being so flooded with Star Wars games, that many of them just weren't that good. Following the release of the Episode I film, Jedi Power Battles was released. One of the systems the game got released on was the first Playstation. How is Jedi Power Battles? Read on to find out?

OVERVIEW:
Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles was released in 2000. The game can be one or two player cooperative, features 3D platform-style action, and was released for the Playstation, Dreamcast, and Game Boy.

REVIEW:
In 2000, when this game came out, the thirty-two bit gaming thing was on the way out, and this game demonstrates that very well. Just one look at the graphics goes to show that the Playstation One was nearing its end - these graphics look atrocious! The Playstation is about the only system I know on which the graphics of 3D games seemed to get WORSE as time progressed. The gameplay itself isn't a whole lot better. Most of the buttons let you do different attacks with your character's lightsaber, and there are run and jump buttons for when you need them. Unfortunately, the configuration is godawful. You can't even configure the control to your liking - TOTALLY UNFORGIVABLE in a game like this. You can choose from a few different control styles, but there is absolutely no excuse for not including custom configuration. The fact that the controls are often unresponsive doesn't help things either. And the game's problems don't stop there. The game is frustrating. Not terribly difficult (except for in a few parts), just frustrating. You must complete an ENTIRE LEVEL before you can save, so if you make it to the end of a level and die just prior to completing it, that's just tough - you're gonna have to play the whole thing over again. The game isn't all bad, though - you've got your choice of several different Jedi Knights, and there are plenty of unlockable characters and areas. Sadly though, all of the characters play almost exactly alike, and no matter who you play, you play as if you're undergoing Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon's story from Episode I. Weak. They should have had a custom path and storyline for everyone. Overall, there isn't really anything here to draw in gamers, except for the most die-hard of Star Wars fans who want every game to bear the name. But still, there are better games out there. When this game was released, it was almost instantly obsolete due to the rise of more powerful gaming consoles.

EDITION NOTES:
This game is long out of print, and you can't find it new in stores anymore, but used video game stores have an abundance of copies these days. If you're hunting it down, I suggest checking one of them out.

OVERALL:
Overall this is a good game, but it falls flat when you compare it to other games of the same day and age. And besides, there are better Star Wars games out there, as any fan will tell you. If you're a die-hard fan of the Star Wars franchise, or you want every Star Wars game, then by all means get it (it's pretty damn cheap if you can find it), but don't expect anything spectacular. It's good, but it sure as hell ain't great.

I like it, Not love or hate....Like it!

When I first heard of the concept of this game, being able to take control of the Jedi and go ballistic with a lightsaber, I was happy and felt glad to own a Playstation. I purchased the game this past week and have been playing it as much as possible ever since. Well, here's my two cents: First I'll start with the Pro's. The graphics were pretty decent and the soundtrack is straight out of the movie. For me the game is also pretty challenging, granted I'm also on the easy setting. The gameplay is fun and all, but....this begins to lead me to the Con's of this game which unfortunatly overpower the pro's. The graphics, which are pretty dazzling at times, can also become really really grainy and very difficult to see your character at times. The soundtrack music and few of the Sound FX were very good, but a few of the FX are really downright annoying and confuse me too much. The Jedi you have to choose from are really diverse except, I've really only had any luck fighting with just one of the Jedi. It seems to me that the people that made this game didn't want to call it the Mace Windu game so they added some more faces. The gameplay also gets a bit boring as you slice battle droid after battle droid. They have designed some new characters and villians for the game but sometimes they come too little too late. I think the one thing that bugs me the most about the game is the use of the SAME EXACT PREMISE as used in The Phantom Menace! I would think that lucasarts could've came up with another storyline for us to take the Jedi Knights on. Well, that about wraps it up for me. If you enjoy every Star Wars game ever made then you'll enjoy this one. If you are expecting the best game ever to grace the Jedi Knights, look into Dark Forces II.

Cool game

This is a cool game because it has good graphics and lots of characters and levels to unlock. Its a bit frustrating when the droids just keep coming or when the bosses are to strong.
Unfortunatly if you unlock Darth Maul he will not have a dual bladed light saber. Only a normal red saber.Apart from that it is an awsome game. Just get it.
Hint: Use Qui Gon Jin and choose the X,X combo when being awarded. You will need that combo to defeat Darth Maul. Just keep pressing X to finish him. In the end of the game go back to the charater sreen, highlight Qui Gon and press select to get Darth Maul.

Disappointing

Had read some decent previews about this game, comparing it to Gauntlet and the likes. Unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations. It was great to be back in the world of Star Wars, but the graphics are quite inferior to what you would expect from Lucas and even sub-par for any game with the Playstation technology. The characters abilities are very limited at best. The concept of using a light saber is very intriguing, but when it gets down to it, shooting would be a lot more fun and the light saber is very limited in what it can do. Slash, Slash, Slash. In addition, movement in general is stilted. I played this game on "easy" mode for about ten minutes and decided to play one of my old sword-weilding games, MediEval and had a lot more fun and enjoyed the graphics ten fold. The only reason I give this game two stars is because it carries the Star Wars name. Good luck and may the force be with you.

No one looked forward to this like I did. And when I finally got my hands on it it was a bit of a let down, but that was just at first. The game is great and once you get the hang of the controls you are sure to kick some tail.

The jumping from platform to platfrom can be a royal pain in the @ss but so far I have manged to keep from force pushing my PSX off the TV so its not all that bad.

The combo moves are cool and effective but the droids can be numours at times. Each charater does play differently and not just look different which is very good.

Overall this game is HOT the graphics could use some work but I would assume this is due to the speed of the game. I would much rather give up graphics than frame rates. All of those who hate the game did not give it a chance. You have to learn how to move and control your character and learn their moves in order to truly enjoy the game. Cause once you learn the controls and how to defend and DEFLECT then you can destroy!

The Force will be with you always..... (PS DEFLECT is caped for a reason)
