this game is terrible

I didn't like anything about this game. Looks exactly like halo on old xbox. Nothing compared to the new games on 360.

Great FPS

This is a great game, both single player campaign and online multiplayer(campaign can be played cooperatively, which is nice). Online play is fantastic. Very enjoyable. Must have game for any Xbox 360 owner.

Finish the Fight! It IS finished... right???

Yes, it is finished, and what a ride it's been! (<--- major cheese huh? =P) So as you've heard everyone else say, HALO 3 starts right where HALO 2 left off. Master Chief is embroiled in the conflict to end all conflicts aiming to be the savior of the universe.

First off, the story is... just a continuation/conclusion of the HALO saga. Don't really want to say anything here because this is a review, not a walk through.

When you first start out, you might be a tad bit disappointed with the graphics as I was. After the first 15 to 20 minutes, however, you really begin to appreciate the visuals. There is SO MUCH STUFF that is rendered on the screen at any given time (eons more than GoW), and all of it is really very detailed. The only stuff that disappoints is the character models... very generic and last gen.

The sound is... wow. It's a huge part of the atmosphere of this fantastic finale. While you are playing through for the first time, my bet is that you won't really notice it all that much, but take the time and listen. You have to appreciate the fact that you are not only getting a great game, but an entire orchestral musical score made specifically for it as well.

The game play is classic HALO style run and gun. Nothing really all too new or fancy except the new "deployables." These X button wonders are really a lot of fun to play around with and there are found in a good variety. During my play through on heroic (PLEASE DON'T START THE GAME ANY LOWER THAN THAT!!!), I need to use them quite often. They were pretty much essential for me.

*BUT* Who buys HALO just for the campaign? The proof is in the pudding... oh, excuse me, I mean the proof is in the multi-player! That's where the gold is. It's a (much) bigger, better, and shinier version of HALO 2's amazing frag fest, and it certainly is no slouch. Lotsss of maps, weapons, vehicles, and death! Did I mention the "Forge?" Well, I wouldn't want to write another 5 paragraphs (and you wouldn't want me to either I bet).

So stop reading my (fantastic) review, and go out, or in, really, and PLAY!

About what I expected

I give the game a 9.8/10, it is worth the money! I have spent more time on this game than I have since I owned a Nintendo in 88. It is over-hyped, and that creates people to expect the game to put them in cardiac arrest while playing it. BioShock has better graphics and a good story, but I don't think it is as fluid as BioShock as far as the controls go, with the multiplayer capabilities far beyond BioShock. For the money and time spent playing it I think it is the best game ever! Don't listen to the haters, they probably own a PS3.

Halo 3 has a great interface for the first person shooter. My only complaint is that it could have more levels. However, if you bump it up to the harder stages it is truly a masterpiece.

Sweet

I only have the regular game..no special edition set. I decided to add a 5 star review here because the game is sweet and there are too many sony fan boys bashing the game.

A wonderful space opera

Halo 3 caps off a thrilling space opera that can put the Star Wars story to shame.
At first I thought the story was quite lacking but then I researched all the background on Wiki and then went back and played through all three games and the story is very solid and thrilling from start to end.
The controls are top notch and the graphics are beautiful. You can definitely see the graphics upgrades when playing through all three games one after the other. Also people have complained that the graphics are not like Gears of War but then Gears graphics do not fit this style. also remember, Gears takes place over a fairly linear and cramped environment where-as Halo games have vast amounts of wide open spaces. I give the Halo series and Gears both 5 stars.
There have been some complaints on the length but I personally like the shorter 9-11 hours length. You can finish it in one day and feel a certain sense of accomplishment. Don't get me wrong 20+ hour games and RPG's at over 100 hours are awesome but I like the shorter hours for these games like Halo and Gears.
Check out the very detailed and in depth back story on Wiki and read the books A+ also.

Just what I expected

This is an amazing game!!! The people who have given it unfavorable ratings are either comparing it too much to Halo 1 and 2 or they actually didn't play the game. If this was the first Halo ever released and people hadn't been spoiled by other games every review here would be 5 stars hands down. You will be glad you bought Halo 3 if you can put the comparing part of your mind aside. Enjoy!

No Suprises, Still A Solid Game

Halo 3. The conclusion to the revolutionary game that started it all.

Is it fun? Yes

Is it worth buying? I think so.

Is it innovative? NO.

Is it revolutionary? NO.

Is it just more of the same? Basically.

Don't expect to be amazed by this game. If you've played Halo or Halo 2, then don't expect surprises. Some people have cataloged this game as "Setting the bar of future First Person Shooters", and nothing could be further from the truth. This is a great game but it's not innovative. Halo: Combat Evolved was innovative. Gears of War was innovative. Halo 3 is basically more of the same.

One thing that I would have to disagree with the detractors though is on the story line. Most people who love everything about the game absolutely DESPISE the story line. They say every negative thing about it.

I myself found it quite engaging.

The story may be somewhat hard to follow for those who aren't familiar with the events of Halo: Combat Evolved or Halo 2, and even for those who are, if you don't FULLY read the terminals that are scattered through out the game, you won't get the full story. Without spoiling too much, you get to learn a lot more about the Forerunners, about why some of their installations were known as libraries, why you hear terms like "indexing" a lot, and even how life started on earth. Every line spoken in the cut scenes during the campaign has something to do with the big picture. Especially with the prophet of truth says about "steeling" yourself for what "needs to be done".

For those who appreciate astronomy, physics, and deep space travel, the science part of it is pretty entertaining. It's awe inspiring to imagine a forerunner installation (The Ark) so far away from the Milky Way galaxy (2^18 light-years according to the "oracle"). The science and story of the game, I found very profound and intelligent despite what others say.

Multiplayer? Come on, its HALO! Multiplayer delivers but it could've been much better. The map selection for team slayer games seems to cycle between the same 2 places. Same thing goes for team slayer.

There's a lot of content to this game. Did it live up to it's hype? No. Far from it. But its STILL a good, solid game worth buying.

To Much Flood

Halo 3 is a good game in campaign mode but much better online. The graphics are great (you will need a good display to enjoy) the campaign is short with way to much of the "Flood" for me. But if you like mindless beings with long tentacle arms that wobble, grunt and then jump at you I suppose you will find Halo 3 great. Me I like the covenant grunts and the like, they at least have personality. If you are buying this game for the campaign mode I think you may be let down. BUT if you are buying it to play on Xbox Live then you will be happy as this appears to be what Bungie and Microsoft have spent all their efforts on.
