a game for an average mind

I think this is one of the worst adventure games I have ever played.

- Here in this site there are alot of bright reviews mention about the unique, creative and wonderful and etc. etc.. story. Especially the one that appears on the top of the reviews Foolishness!! This is a complately non creative - rip off - story full of HQ clichees and some banal romantism so you may be impressed only if you're a pre-teen or a quite low-intelligent adult female.

- camera view and controls are abysmal !!

- gameplay (actually there is no gameplay) is terribly dull, repetetive and boring, no challange no rewards
- the score is limited repetetive and played by a fake orchestra, the pop songs are some crapy dawson's creek populism.

- graphics are simply OUTDATED areas are limited character and face animations are pathetic, some fools who dont have any clue about todays standarts call this game stunning, and I say Bull S!!! even HL2 or Oblivion cannot be called stunning

- the way too Short: 10 hours. And finally after 10 hours of non sense THERE IS NO ENDING!!! yes indeed a smart selling strategy!!

TLJ was great, this game is an overblown crap. The real interactive adult movie-game (if you're looking for one) is The Indigo Prophecy

Solid, but not spectacular

This is a good game, but it's not as good as the original The Longest Journey.

The game is certainly enjoyable. The story, characters and acting are all pretty good - certainly good enough to keep you engaged till the end. The new 3D graphics look good and the interface works well enough. However, the game did not impress me as much as the original, so I was a wee bit disappointed.

First of all, I found that the central character, Zoe, was not as well-acted or engaging as April was in the original. Sometimes I got the sense Zoe was just reading lines. You will still like her though.

Secondly, April Ryan is unfortunately not as engaging as April was in the original either. The designers have deliberatly changed her character from happy-go-lucky teenager to embittered rebel leader. I didn't find this very convincing. More importantly, it also means that April has become a lot less fun. She is still very well acted but her lines just aren't as good. I kept willing April to make one of her trademark wisecracks, and most of the time she just said boring stuff like "I need to go over there", etc.

In general, the game is less zany and humourous than the original. There are plenty of attempts at humour, but the writing isn't quite up to the standards of the original and it falls a bit flat.

My next criticism is the remarkably easy gameplay. Although superficially it looks like an inventory-based, puzzle-solving game, real puzzles are actually few and far between. For example, most of the time you'll only have one or two items in your inventory, so what to combine with what is a no-brainer. And the game babysits you throughout with hints and directions, in effect telling you exactly what you are looking for, where to find it and what to do when you get there.

The last criticism is that sometimes the plot is downright confusing. Things happen in it which still don't get adequately explained by the end. Which is may be no wonder, because there is no end. The game ends abruptly with all the loose ends hanging in the air, evidently in preparation for a sequel.

The interested buyer shouldn't be put off by these criticisms though. These are only failings in comparison with the original, which was a suberb all-time classic. And though Dreamfall isn't very challenging it's still fun to play through it, like watching a good movie.

So all in all, a solid four stars. Not quite top marks but still a good game.

Very Sci Fi

I just finished playing this game. There are so many plots and storylines and some are so far out there that i could't reall understand the whole thing. I still think part 1 was the best. The way this game ends makes you question if there will be a part 3. I hope so because i'm left hanging with a lot of questions. The scenery was great, mostly neighborhoods that were run down and rainy and winter or underground. The controls were cool but sometimes the camera angle got in your way when you are trying to fight someone. Unlike part 1, you can die in this one and i died at least 30 times but the game automatically saves b4 that is possible so you can try and try again. There were funny parts as well but i found this game more terrifying than part 1 lol. Some may find that as a good thing, for me i prefer more adventure safe game :) Overall i was eager to play it everyday after work so I still enjoyed it. the story though was too complicated for me lol so now im trying to find forums where it's explained better for me. If you you didnt play part 1, play that first or 2nd it's far better (but shorter). This game was surprisingly longer than part 1 which is good, i finished part 1 in a week this one took me a few weeks to finish and puzzles were fun to play.
BE CARFUL: I bought this game for my PC which is the same pc i played part 1 on, and it is not compatible so i had to buy the XBOX version and borrow an XBOX from a friend. Now i got this brand new PC game that i cant play. I'm quite dissapointed about that, my PC is not that old and is quite new and i was unhappy with the requirements for the game, which include very expensive video cards. REVIEW the specifications first!

I know this wont be a long and full review sorry, but I have to say something. This ending was the worst ive played in years !!no endings at all where givin to you just a bunch of questions.not one question was answered in this game and for that i give it a bad score.i felt it was a complete waste of my time.ok, its fine for tv where we can see the closing within a week but for a game that takes 4-6 yrs to make, this is completely ridicilous.

Imagine a game that is the greatest adventure game that you've ever played in your life. Then imagine a game with the most incomplete, unsatisfying, and unbearable ending you've ever seen. Now, put them together and you'll have Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.

If a sequel comes out soon, I can bear it. If not, I can't! While I'm waiting, though, I'll give it five stars.

A story unmatched in gaming history

They usually add "for a video game" to "this was a great story" when talking about adventure games, but you can remove that in this case. Dreamfall has one of the most mature, intelligent, compelling, emotionally resonant stories I've ever experienced. The story will leave you crying out for more when it's over, and the genuine attachment you feel for the characters will leave you remembering this game for a very, very long time. If you like good stories at all, DON'T MISS THIS GAME.

Why mix bad fighting with adventure? I used to love the adventure genere with puzzels and turnbased gameplay. Now adventure games must be action adventure. Please make a pure adventure game.

-- I can obviously see that there are people rating this game at 5 out of 5 on both scales... yet there are numerous people bringing up serious issues with the game. So, either the people rating it 10 out of 10 are biased, or just want to pat Funcom on the back, because even the majority of people who have rated the game 10 out of 10 talk of "work arounds" for the controllers, for the consistent loading on the screen, for the clumsy controls... you are given work arounds.

In 2006, there really shouldn't be "work arounds" to being able to use the mouse and keyboard... they've been around a bit.

Work arounds is not quality.

And everyone who is raving about the game is mainly talking about the story, how grand it is, etc, etc... well, if that was the case, get a book. Because the challenge of the game should be playing it, not trying to actually use the controls to play it.

Even with a GamePad it's not great -- though you'll see folks say it works great with a GamePad -- but that's because it is so terribly bad without it, an Atari 2600 Joystick would be better.

If you haven't bought this game, and you're reading all these, you'll kick yourself for buying it if you do.

To give a disclaimer, yes, the game can be finished... with much effort and annoyance, it can be. But is that the point?

Seriously, you want a good story, get a good book. Watch a CGI movie if that's what floats your boat.

But if you believe people giving this 10 out of 10 when they acknowledge the issues with the controls as well... well, then, I've got some swamp land in Florida that I can sell ya... cheap.

Going Going Going... Ohhh they fell short....

I have to say from what I've played this must be one of the most disappointing games I've ever played. This game seems to boast its fighting system, side quests, and 3 person game play but it really does fall short.

First off the fighting is... Pathetic. It's more of a fill in. The fights are suppose to be hard, epic, and versitile. I didn't really find any of that. Your a moving stone wall who swings punches, swords, stalfs? By just tapping the quick attack you can win every battle without a even noticing. Since this is really Kian's area I was expecting at least he would have a better fighting system than April and Zoe, but no they're all the same.

Sidequest? Where? I never played one sidequest what so ever. Ether I missed them or they fit into the story so well they turned out to be the main story. For example: There really isn't one because I can't tell. (note the (-_-) face)

This is probably the best part of my bashing. The characters although different really don't make me jump for joy. Kind of drawl. Zoe really annoyed me. As the main character her action in the storyline was sub-par. Not to say she didn't do it but it wasn't a big deal. Oh cool you broke into a broken down motel, a crazed toy company, and a Russian manufacturing line/lab. Over and over you see?. April was a bit more fun. But I think its more because she was waging a war so there's a lot of exploration involved and a group of revolutionaries. Her attitude was also a fresh burst from the doom and gloom Zoe. "Oh no my friend is dead" say Zoe. "I've been fighting a war and still manage to crack jokes here and there" says April. (Again (-_-) face). Kian was the best very prim and precise but not afraid to follow his gut. He was an iron wall and got into more back alley fight although the fights sucked. He really is well rounded. But he doesn't have that pep like April which is the only down side (besides him being a master swordsmen and the fights still sucking <.<).

The only thing I can say is okay are the graphics, and the story which fell short because of it's ending. Come on.
*Spoilers skip if you want*

April is lanced in the stomach and falls off a dock!?! At the same time Kian just gets captured and drops off the face of the planet?!? Zoe never finds Reza and finds out she has a sister who's a ghostly entity online (ok maybe that's good)?!? To bad she's put into a coma and dreamnet still launches! (Note: That all happens in the last few chapters otherwise I like it).

*Spoilers end here*

So I pretty much say it sucks. It's like reading a book accept it would be beter on pages (hint). Yep some people aren't going to like this. Haha to bad. I don't like your game and you don't like my review. I think were even :).

Before you click "Buy" or "Add to Cart" or whatever the button says, make sure the game supports your video card. I have a GeForce 7300LE, I know it's crappy, and I've tried rolling back my driver to a version that supposedly fixes the incompatibility, but I haven't had any luck. The game supports ATI cards though.
