Excellent update to Delta Force

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 8 / 11

I found Delta Force 2 to be an excellent update to the original Delta Force. The new weather effects and weapons certainly make for a more enjoyable and atmospheric game.

I did have a problem with jerkiness initially, but found that lowering the resolution to 400x600 fixed the problem. With a better graphics card (mine's only 8Mb) this problem shouldn't occur. I also found the network game play (over a LAN) to be very good, with no lag or any other problems.

It's a gung-ho first person shooter trying to be realistic

One thing that you have to keep in mind when you play Delta Force 2, is that the game is not super realistic like Swat 3 or Rougue Spear. And that is where this game takes its dive.

Delta Force 2 is supposed to offer a realistic quality, wind and distance effecting your accuracy. But, I still haven't seen that done in my game. This game shouldn't be bought as a realistic team fighter, but a gung-ho Rambo type game. Sure you have teammates, but they are useless, and usually die. Also, hostiles who wouldn't spot you in a million years, some how do. But, when you are completely visable, and out in the open, many times hostiles won't even react to you. Also, the graphics are not improved, but rather the same as the first Delta Force. Multiplayer is crude, and often times uneventfull, with simple maps. Really, this game is just an add-on to the original, so if you have the first Delta Force, don't buy this one. If you don't have the first one, and you are in to charging into camps, sniping everything in sight, and a really easily beatable Campaign mode, come on in!

a slower Delta Force 1 with a few new weapons

Delta Force 1 was a great new addition in the first-person-shooter genre. The experience of fighting outdoors, being able to see hundreds of feet away, ducking behind bushes, hiding out on a hilltop and sniping people far away from you ... it's one of the best online experiences I've ever had. Now we have Delta Force 2 ... and nothing much has changed. Some new weapons, new maps, and new single player missions. Unfortunately, the graphics are more demanding, causing slowdowns on many machines. If you have a 32-bit 3D card, you're lucky - those are the only ones the game accepts as of now. All in all, this is still a great game with the best online action around - I recommend it!

Disappointing

As a huge fan of the original Delta Force, I was eagerly awaiting the release of Delta Force 2. I must say that I was sadly disappointed. I expected some improvements over the original. Granted that you have new weapons and a little more functionality, the game falls far short of what I was expecting. This should of been an expansion pack to the original. I have shelved it after only playing it a hand full of times. My advice, borrow a friends copy and check it out before wasting $$ on a retail version.

Great game. NovaLogic is quickly fixing the minor glitches.

I've always found NovaLogics games to be extraordinary, particularly their graphics. DF2 is just outstanding. Although there were some minor glitches when I first received the game, the manufacturer seems to be working diligently to fix them; same thing had happened with DF1, and everything was quickly corrected.

Internet play is amazing!

A great follow up.

When Delta Force came out I had to have it. It is one of the few games I kept coming back to, that and Half-Life. So, when I heard that Delta Force 2 had come out in the States I had to get it.

My opinion is its fantastic. What did it for me in the end was I was hiding behind a wooden building when a armoured vehicle with a heavy calibre machine gun started shooting at me through the building. And the ability to straith a tent with you gun and kill inside. Brilliant.

Fun One, player AWESOME Multiplayer!

If you like any other shooter games,I.E. Rainbow 6 or Hidden and Dangerous, you'll love this game. The one player game is mediocre. But the Multiplayer is Awesome. With up to 50 players battling it out it gets pretty crazy. Also, I would get this game if you like to paintball.

Excellent Simulation

This game is one of the best simulations of actual special operative ground combat. The review was pretty harsh on the fact that you cannot see the enemy from a long way away. When somebody is wearing adequate camoulflage, you cannot see them from very far in real life, which is what I think this game is trying to simulate. This game isn't going for the futuristic shoot-em up space alien look. Another realistic feature of this game is the gravity field. This requires you to adjust for range when shooting over a distance. The addition of grass to the scenarios adds even more realism. Weather also adds to the effect of the game. One thing that annoys me though is that on missions where you have to ride in one of the Blackhawk's to go somewhere, the gravity field is still in full effect. It is extremely easy to just slide out the door because the game doesn't take into count any of the other forces that would be plastering you to tthe floor of the aircraft as you make a hard turn. Also, the MK23 .45 sidearm doesn't seem to be very effective against enemy soldiers. It can take 4 or 5 shots at times to put somebody down. Last time I checked, that .45 bullet was almost the size of the .50 bullet the M-82 sniper rifle shoots, just going alot slower. It would normally only take one .45 bullet to put somebody down. Thats why SOCOM picked a .45 over the M-9 9mm that the rest of the military uses. Another thing that annoys me is that you have in your inventory a rebreather, underwater guns, and a camera when there seem to be no missions where you would use these devices. Maybe novalogic is planning on coming out with a mission pack later, but I was really wondering what you were supposed to use these for. Overall this game is an extremely good simulation. It is quite graphic intensive and can really slow your computer down when things start blowing up and dust starts flying everywhere, so make sure you have the necessary resources before you invest in this game, but the resulting realism is great. I would like to see better canopy control when you are inserting via parachute. As it is the canopy ride is almost the same as running except you can't stop. I would also like to see More of the extra resources special operatives have; such as gunships overhead that fire missions can be called from instead of the copperhead artillery rounds. AFSOC has cycled out all of its special ops blackhawks. Though the army still uses them, the AF uses MH-53 Pave Lows right now cause they are bigger and qiueter. These are also being cycled out when the CV-22 Osprey comes online. Novalogic might get ahead of the power curve and start showing some of these in any DF sequals the are planning. All in all this is a really good game and I recommend buying if you like realistic ground combat and your computer can handle it

A Good Game For Some

I like this game.In fact I go in cycles when occassionally I will sit down and play it online for hours. It has some flaws. If you want high resoloution Quake 3 type graphics and just a regular first person shooter this is not for you. This game sacrifices good graphics for great gameplay. Its graphics do some interesting things no Quake game ever can.For example you have fields and you can see each individual blade of grass and hide in the grass as in real life. You do not run around jumping over rockets and being shot hundreds of times by robots and live I tell you that much. You can die in one hit just like real life. The kevlar vest you can use on this game saves you alot of the times. You have a complete and open environment. One thing that disappointed me is when I first saw it it said new weapons and I loved Delta Force One and wanted to see what sort of amazing weapons they had for us this time.None really, you get another M4 with a shotgun mounted instead of grenade launcher. Now in real life these shotgun attachments are basically for blasting down locked doors,in this game you will go into rooms with locked doors but you can not open them or blast them down.In the instruction manual it even specified the shotgun was for removing doors.Well that is what I expected but did not get it.You get an underwater assault rifle and pistol, these are basically useless.I expected they would have some primarily water mission that would make use of the new diving suit and underwater weapons. The underwater weapons are not that good on single player and dont even try them on multi player! The fun on this game lies in its multiplayer mode.Huge battles against other people. The only thing dislikeable is that almost everyone uses the M249 SAW on multiplayer so you stand little chance with the other weapons. You can do fairly well with the M4 on multiplayer but still its best to just get the SAW.So if you want a first person shooter with abit more realism you may like this.

I like this game......

I have gone backwards in my delta force experience having bought DF#-landwarrior first and then buying up the first two just to have more missions to play. It is certainly been worth it! All the delta force games take place out doors which makes them different. It's realistic action were you have to snipe your way around the perimeter to make your way into a camp to complete your mission objective. Of the three delta force games i own i think df2 has the most original and interesting missions.

You like missions? Well in this game you get over 40 of them! I wish rainbow six would give you that many. These missions are part of two campaigns that form a certain story line or you can play them as "quick missions" in any order on your own. Many of those missions are also available in multiplayer so you can play coop with a buddy. The missions take place in a variety of weather conditions day and night and the challenge is being able to take out all the terrorists because that one guy you missed will take you out and remember one shot kills! Sure you can respawn but that just means starting the mission all over again from the beginning. That is the challenge in delta force the sheer number of combatants you need to take out and the large area in which they use. For example in one of my favorite missions there is a downed pilot hiding in this snowy wilderness. To fly him out safely you need to take out a camp containing at least 25 of the enemy and destroy three SAMs. Getting most of the terrorist scum is easy as you just take a position up top and start picking them off but it's hard to get them all and some are out where you can't see them easily. So patience is key because as soon as you leave your cover somebody will get you. It took me a while to complete that mission and twice i was 99% finished just having blown up the SAMs only to get sniped.

You don't have a huge number of weapons to choose from but what you have is fantastic and you'll find yourself using one of the sniper rifles or the M4 machine gun which has a grenade launcher. You won't use your hand gun much and you have the choice of delayed or frag grenades. Satchels are available for blowing up large things like those SAM sites and you can use extra ammo or a vest as one of your options. Because methodical, longer range warfare is the order you have a really nice alternative to games like rainbow and half life were most of your action is confined to a small space. It's the pace of the game that i really like and it's a blast to pick off some terrorist from 300 meters away.

The multiplayer is a whole new ball game because you're going to have quite a few people trying to get you. The last time i played at nova world there were 900 people in there so you never have to wait for some action. You can play deathmatch where every man is for himself or team death match. Capture the flag is a blast. You really can never tire of this game!

Drawbacks? Well the graphics are not an improvement over delta force one though they are pretty cool. You do need to update the game all the way because there are a few problems that needed to be fixed and you'll want to maximize your resolution. The game can be just a bit choopy and sluggish at times which brings me to why i only have a 4* rating.

In all the delta force games you are placed in an outdoor enviroment that is enormous. Often you will have to run for a minute or two just to engage the enemy or reach their camp. In all these games you feel like you are spending too much time running around and that is especially a problem in multiplyer were you run for ever only to get killed and have to go back to where you were . DF3-landwarrior remedies this problem a little by making the characters run faster but in this game you seem to plod along at a slow pace. That's especially true when running up and down steep mountains.

Over all delta force2 is a fantastic realistic shooter with unique characteristics. It's a great compliment to some of the other great games out there. I own rainbow 6 and rouge spear and this makes a nice alternative. Certainly the price is right.
