Escape from Monkey Island, still the best...

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 3

I had this game when it first came out, but many computers later and a lot of moves, and I couldn't find it.....Thanks to Amazon.com I was able to obtain a new copy and renew the challenging fun I remembered so well. The game is like trying to solve a logic puzzle, sometimes you get the next clue right away, sometimes it takes a bit longer.....The directions and controls are easy to use...The graphics, though not at the same level as some graphics today, still are great....I recommend this game for anyone who likes to pass the time playing logic puzzles, or anyone who wants to develop their skills in analyzing and deduction....No matter what your reason, most of all, HAVE FUN!!!!

I loved every monkey island, except this one

I loved to play monkey island 1 when i was 6 and 7, monkey island 2 was also great, and COMI was my favorite, the painted backgrounds were beautiful, the music was good enough to stand on its own, and the voice acting was superb. Not to mention how well the cartoony graphics style fit into the series. Then monkey island 4 came along and wrecked it all. the graphics were horrible, the 3d animation was terrible, and didn't fit the series at all. the new voice for elaine is SO OBNOXIOUS!... why couldn't they get the old voice from COMI back? The plot it stupid, and the interface is among the worse I have ever used. Every since sometime in the mid 1980's there was this great invention called the MOUSE! Having to use the keyboard all the time was so frustrating! The puzzles were obscure, and had nothing to do with the plot. I hope that if lucasarts makes an MI5, they'll go back to 2d graphics, and add mouse support!

EMI - Is this a last try for the dying genre ?

Well, I don't think so. Escape from Monkey Island can make it alive again. It is the the title of fourth Monkey Island Game where updated Grim Fandango engine with elements of Obi-Wan engine is used to create interface and settings (It means that we won't use mouse anymore). There are over 60 auditioned voices. Some of them we have already heard (like Dominic Armato's). Some of them are used on "old" characters from MI1 and MI2.The humor is outstanding and music one of the best ever heard on computer. So, what are we waiting! Let's sail to the Carribean !!!

If you aren't already going to buy it, try the demo

If you are stuck on whether or not to buy this game...download the demo, it will definatly make you want to buy it

Boring and gross

Playing this game closely on the heels of the outstanding Curse of Monkey Island (MI 3) emphasizes the inferiority of Escape from Monkey Island (MI 4). The Monkey Island franchise needed 3D like Guybrush Threepwood needs another hole in his head. As such, the 3D implementation has ruined an otherwise adequate game. In addition, even though the puzzles in MI 4 are just as oddball as those in MI 3, the "grossness" level has been turned way up. It's as if the target audience is 13-year-old boys and to heck with the rest of the gamers out there.

In a nutshell, if you haven't yet played MI 3, get it and play it now. Don't let MI 4 discourage you from seeing the true gems in this franchise. If you have already played MI 3, stay away from MI 4. Otherwise, you will be sorely disappointed.

Looks wonderful

I downloaded the demo and it looked terrific! I wanted to play the full version so badly that I beat the demo about 5 times! I don't know why Lucas Arts is torturing me by releasing the demo a full three weeks before the game comes out, but I wish they wouldn't. I really want this game and can't wait 'till it comes out!

A bit disappointing...

Though this game is still very good, it's can't compete with "the curse of monkey island". The jokes were not as witty, they were a bit lame really, and the plot wasn't all that great either. I don't like the characters in their 3-D form, plus Guybrush didn't look anything like he did before, which bugged me.
Too bad, this game just didn't quite live up to it's potential. The curse is much better so I suggest you play that instead, or Grim Fandango which is an awsome game.

The amazing Guy!

I played this game on playstation 2 and loved it! Guy is full of stupid and silly remarks. This game has everything adventure, romance (If you call what he and his wife have romantic) and comedy especially. I really enjoyed playing guy and fighting with monkeys. His pet timmy excluded, of course. I think this is an excellent game for all ages.

A disappointing effort from Lucas Arts

Being an avid adventure gamer for many years, I couldn't wait to grab a copy of the 4th instalment of the the famed Monkey Isand series, Escape from Monkey Island. Rest assured, I was the first one in line to buy Lucas Arts' new masterpiece, and seemingly the first to be truly dissapointed. Yes, I noticed the nifty 3D graphics, and wow those endless puns were mighty humorous...but what happened to the logical puzzles? The fun story? What happened to playing a game without a bug or glitch every other second? These unanswered questions plagued me as I watched this lackluster game unfold. To be fair, the game was not HORRIBLE, just far infererior previous MIs, and semi-disgraceful to Lucas Arts, who has published many of my all time favorites (i.e. Day of the Tentacle, Curse of Monkey Island, and Grim Fandango). I fervently urge you to purchase one of the aformentioned games instead of this hastily thrown together mess. For the record, Escape from Monkey Island does NOT deserve 1 star: 2 or 3 would be more appropriate. However, this is my futile attempt to balance the scales and set some confused and askew "adventure gamers" straight. This game is for shame, Lucas Arts! Better luck (and effort) in the future.

escaping from reality into the world of monkey island

since the advent of monkey island rpgs, it has never allowed its fans to be let down. With a strictly no-death policy, unless deliberate in monkey island 3, the antics and movements of the lovable Guybrush Threepwood and his amazing wit manage to hold the attentions of fans worldwide. It is obvious that monkey island 4 will be the same. With better animation than mk3, which was sadly still 2 dimensional.. mk4 will be 3-d and therefore packed with better graphics. Insults too, in the infamous battles will be bettered and funnier. It is a game suited not only for kids but for the general public. Even cynics will find fun in this witty game and its puzzles.
