Oh Monkey Island, how I do love thee. You keep me firmly enmeshed in your silken monkey net though the evil forces of clinical cardiology are calling my name. 'Tis the sweetest thing to grab a cup from StarBuccaneers and while away hours picking bananas and placing them in strategic places...
Only complaint, couldn't they make Guybrush walk just a little freakin' faster? Geez, you can finish medical school before Guybrush gets across the dadgum pirate ship, ARRRRRRR!!!!

Ah, an enjoyable return to the tri-island area....

I recall playing "The Secret of Monkey Island", for the first time, back in 1992. It was very highly suggested to me by a friend. Here I was, in control of this mysterious character with a very odd name. I had no idea who he was, how he got there, or how he acquired such a peculiar name. I knew only one thing about him; he wanted to be a pirate.

Nearly ten years later, I am once again in control of our unassuming hero and, once again, I am thoroughly enjoying the experience. While this game isn't the best of the series, (I enjoyed "Curse" a good deal more) it is, indeed, a welcome addition.

Controlling Guybrush is, initially, a bit awkward. And while I do still prefer using the mouse, I adjusted fairly quickly (being a fan of Grim Fandango, which has a nearly identical control scheme.) The graphics are passable, although I was a bit annoyed by the painfully low-resolution characters. The puzzles, while being a bit oblique and sometimes frustrating, are still very humorous. I was glad to see old characters return (a certain evil, talking, disembodied skull in particular), and old storylines develop (humorously). And, expectedly, the voice acting is as good as ever.

Overall, an enjoyable and frequently nostalgic experience, and a very welcome return to one of my favorite game series.

This is a excellent game. Guybrush is really funny and says things that most people wouldn't think of saying. Pretty much anyone who likes a good laugh would like this game. It's puzzles are mind bending and forces you to think diffrently than what you are used too. The solutions to the puzzles are often very funny. Anyone who likes a challenge and a laugh need to get this game.

If you don't like it then, well, ...

Here we go, one more time, on the wildest ride of our lives. Monkey Island has returned.

Some people don't like it for the controls; some people don't like it for the puzzles; some people don't like it for the humor. I like it for the fun.

MI 4 once more features newly-weds Guybrush Threepwood and Elaine Marley-Threepwood, returning to Melee Island from their honeymoon. However, something is amiss in the Tri-Island Area. First of all, Elaine has been declared dead and somebody else is running for governor - Charles L. Charles (note the initials - yep, you guessed it), and you know the motto - when there's only one candidate, there's only one choice. However, Charles isn't the only problem - a reclusive Australian land developer named Ozzie Mandrill is buying up all the real estate in the Tri-Island Area and replacing it with family-friendly (NOOOOOO!!) joints such as the Lua Bar, Planet Threepwood, etc. as well as re-educating pirates and turning them into productive members of society (double-NOOOOOOOOOOO!!). As Guybrush, you must put a stop to Mandrill's evil plans and save the Caribbean from a fate worse than death and re-animation.

I've heard several complaints about the new interface. Granted, yes, it isn't quite as good as that of MI 3 or even the original two, but I've found that it just takes some getting used too. The controls, I found, were just as good (if not better) than those of the prequel. While many complain about often turning around when they wished to simply walk forward, I simply kept my eye on the invisible boundaries and did fine.

Close scrutiny has also been placed on the self-referential humor. Indeed, you may not understand the majority of the humor if you're a newbie (if you are, get the original three first) but if you're a MI veteran, then get ready for some great humor and voice-acting (again).

Actually, I found the gameplay superb in every respect. Unfortunately, I experienced some lockups on my aging computer. However, if you've got a new and improved computer, I'm almost certain you'll do fine.

MI 4 has been lauded and defamed; I go staunchly for the former with it, though. Get ready for some head-smacking monkey mayhem, folks!

The Escape from Monkey Island is one of the most enjoyable computer games I have purchased. I has all the makings of being an instant hit wit children, from the ages of 11-19. The game includes adventure, excitement, and needing of logic to play. I bought the game for myself after reading the great reviews I recieved from Toysrus.com. After testing the games, I went out and bought it for my cousins birthday. It is a great game.

This game is as good as the rest of the series. I hope they come out with a monkey island 5. The only problem I had with the game was controlling Guybrush when he was walking. The older games were easier to control. You have to play the whole series to appreciate it. You don't have to be a kid to enjoy this one.

What the hell happened to adventure games? They were so big a long, long time back. "The Longest Journey" is an excellent game, but available only in the UK. "Grim Fandango" is getting old.

Americans still have hope with MI 4 coming up. And so is Myst III!! Yea, baby, looks like the adventure giant isn't not quite dead!

Dont bother with this one

We spend 2 days trying to make this game run on our system. Now it will but its very slow and full of bugs. The fact the game comes with a troubleshooting guide that is about 100 pages long should all tell us something. At Lucasarts website there is already an update you have to download in order to make some of the parts of the game work ( they call it minor problems..LOL). The controls are sheer horrible and the 3D characters look and move terrible. I agree with many others that they have been rushing this one to get it out in time for christmas. All in all a huge dissapointment. After all I am a huge MI fan and my heart skipped a beat when I saw they were coming out with another one. But now I wished they had not. Really save your bucks on this one and lets hope Lucasarts learned something from this.
