An excellent example of where PC games are headed. This games utilized base building tactics with first person action in a way I've never seen before. The graphics will not leave you disappointed, and the dry English humor isn't near as dry as it is funny. The cut screen animations will have you rolling.

The game starts as a first person shooter, then it incorporates base-building strategies and before it's conclusion it even takes you through a sports action competition (jet ski races).

If you're a big gamer this is a must have. If you only buy one or two games a year this game provides a nice cross section of everything out there.

Interesting plot, nice graphics and game play

Giants is a good game. Well worth your buck. I've not played online yet but the single player game has had me addicted. It's funny, has good graphics and gameplay. The game really mixes it up, that makes it interesting. The Kabuto cam is groovy-cool too. Lots of extra camera angles and special moves make this game a winner! make sure to download the update.

Giants Is an awesome game, when I started out I thought it as designed to be a kids game. Well its not, the story line is slightly vulgar. Only an adult would truly get entertainment from this game. Graphics are excellent, scenes are wonderful and it's down right fun. Problems: You think Kabuto would be the fun one. Well let's just say that I just ran to the objectives from the boredom. Fortunately Kabuto is the last creature you play, the reaver was the most fun for me as she moves very fast. I suggest this game its load of fun for everyone. Good mission play and lots of laughs. Suggest this game for the true gamer as it will provide a new style of play. Not s must have but I you have a few bucks go ahead and get it you will have fun.

Fun for a while, drags later.

After starting up Giants I was greated with beautiful graphics (though even on a P2 400 w/ 16MB video RAM I had the detail way down) and a hilarious cutscene. At first I was entralled by this game. The whole first campaign (Meccs) was had a nice gradual learning curve, a fun variety of missions, and the funniest cutscenes I've seen in a game in a long time. My only complaint was the base building that seemed to be added to the game to spruce up multiplayer, but is otherwise sorely lacking compared to other RTS games. But it's an action game and that can be forgiven.

Then I started the second campaign, the Sea Repaer's Story. The control was nice and they again started with a nice learning curve. The first few cutscenes were not as good as the Meccs campaign, but still amusing. Then suddenly they gave me a base and I had all the "technology" (or spells for the Sea Reapers). Then after destroying an enemy installation to complete a level, no cutscene. Now I was worried.

Kabuto. Initially I was thrilled. Running around stomping buildings, eating people, and just generally causing chaos was great. Then a little later it was getting tedious. By the end of the campaign I was just racing through the levels as fast as possible because they were so repetitive. Unfortunately there weren't even any cutscenes in between missions. Just one at the start and two at the end so I wasn't even all that motivated to go through those levels.

Is the game fun? Yes, it is. However, be warned that playing the single player game may get old eventually. I honestly haven't really tried the multi player much, perhaps picking up your friends as Kabuto and ripping their heads off could be far more entertaining. It sure sounds like it :).

Absolutely breathtaking...

To start off with this game has some of the most amazing graphics I have ever seen. It takes full advantage of Nvidia and ATI's latest T&L engines with gorgeous results. That being said, you are going to need a serious machine to play this game. If you don't have a Geforce/Geforce2 or Radeon as well as a speedy processor and lots of memory then you are going to miss out on this games outstanding graphics. Fortunatley this game is able to stand on its own without the graphics. The storyline is humorous to the point where I burst out laughing at many of the cutscenes. The gameplay is solid, the designers obviously spent a lot of time with this games engine. I have yet to truly play around with the multiplayer capabilities of this game, but from what I've seen in single player there is real potential for a great LAN game. That being said this game does have a single fault. I have found a few annoying bugs. I am sure these will be fixed in a patch in the near future (they're not that bad anyway) so that shouldn't hold you back from getting this game. If you have the system to support it don't just sit there GET IT!

It crashed during the install!

The game crashed once during the install and again during the opening movie. Once I got the game actually working I found sub-standard graphics, fuzzy inaudible sound, and gameplay that resembled the earliest attempts at doom (if those attempts were programmed by a four-year-old). Not only did this game waste my money, but it took 2 hours of my life I will never get back.

It is fresh! Fun! Bright! Exciting! and very very funny

O.K ...

I HATED this game, HATE HATE HATED it - briefly.

When I first started it up, I loved it, it was fun, funny, had tongue in cheek jokes all over the place.

But then it became really really hard, tedious, you cannot save in the middle of a level so you have to play the damned level again and again and again.

What's more, it is buggy and crashes - even with the patch, it is still a bit buggy (Jan 2000) - so you start the level again.

What I did not realise is that this is NOT a shoot 'em like Unreal Tournament or Quake 3, for example when you are a Mech you send your team in to do the fighting for you.

When I learnt that (from the strategy guide) I realised how much more fun it was.

However it does tend to get tedious.

Overall, a fresh new concept with lots of promise, but the developers are not experienced enough to have made something stable, with ongoing excitement.

Try it out, it is fun! But don't complain if you get bored.

A good game, but it could've used a longer QA period

Clearly, this game was released before it was properly tested so that it could make it for the holiday. The game is LOADED with bugs. That's not bad though because this game is FUN.

The system requirements are unusually high, and even on a powerful system, it is very difficult to run it smoothly. Still, a great game.

Farcical!

Someone, somewhere, somewhen went through a lot of trouble to come up with this beautifully rendered texrured pathetic playing experience.

The stories maybe humourously knit together but it is definitely not what real-time strategy/action gamers would want.

Please look for another title.

KIDSY fun

I wish I returned this game within the alotted trial period. Unfortunately, I kept it. Initial impact is great visuals and sound. The game is somewhat enjoyable and humorous. But as far as actual gameplay and sustained enjoyability, this game falls short. As Brando said in On The Waterfront, this game "coulda been a contender".

This game is an action game where you play as 3 civilizations...each with their own attributes. A 3rd person(Tomb Raideresque) or 1st person(Half-Life) perspective can be used. This game integrates puzzle elements to the combat. Unfortunately, the puzzles aren't difficult and the combat is poor.

This game was very popular and my review is probably going to be an exception...but check out my other reviews to see if you'd agree.
