The Best RPG there is!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 9 / 11

This is the best game there is and if you've beaten Pokemon over and over and over this is the game for you. It's a mixture of Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Mario RPG, and Zelda all rolled in one. If you do get the game I would recommend a team of Gigantes, Windbeast, and Madplant. I love this game, it is the best game there is. I just can't stop playing it, it's just so FUN!

This game is challenging but fun. I like this game because I like to go into the mystic world and have the monsters become my allies. I gave it 5 stars because it is the best game boy color game I have ever played. If you like Pokemon you'll like Dragon Warrior Monsters.

NOT A POKEMON RIPOFF

this game is awesome and is a lot more challenging than pokemon. i really like how you can breed monsters to make stronger ones. i use the breeding most. it is cool how at the end of each travelers' gate there is a boss monster that will sometimes come with you.

As a parent I read these reviews for gift ideas, and if you have kids 7-12 years old, I highly recommend this game. My son has several gameboy games including Pokemon, and this is definitely his very favorite. It has over 200 cool monsters to catch and battle. He loves it.

Not just a preteen boys game!

I'm a 26 year old mother with a BA in Sociology, not your typical gameboy demographic, but what can I say... Monsters is an incredible game that can be played on various levels. The game is challeging without being frustrating. You need to yse your intellect to figure out the best breeding combos and strategies during battles. Unlike some other games that can be played on an adult level(Legand of Zelda:Link's Awakening comes to mind) you won't end up getting stuck on some inane point that you need the strategy book to get past, this game depend all on you and you ability to reason and apply logic.

Very, VERY gripping

The first time I played this game I was borrowing it from my brother, but after about five minutes I was hooked! Sure, its similar to a lot of other games these days, but for some reason I can't put this game down. I think that maybe it is because of the way this game is more unpredictable. During an official battle you can't give your monsters commands or use items, very much unlike Poke'mon. The way monsters you aren't training still get experience was great! Especially since monsters have to be at level 10 to breed. This game doesn't boggle your mind with numbers and still is a very cool RPG.

Oh yeah Babe, OH YEAH!

Man, I just finished playing Dragon Warrior Monster for over 80 hours and let me tell you, YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS GAME, PERIOD.
I remember playing this game for 30 hours for the first time, then restarted. Then I played for another 30 hours then restarted AGAIN because I've found the complete monster breeding chart. Now...WHAT KIND OF GAME DOES MAKE YOU WANTING TO RESTART AGAIN AFTER TWO-30 HOURS OF PLAYING, HUH? This is game is simply incredible. I've read some reviews and trust me, this game is NOT A POKEMON CLONE (Actually I feel sorry for the game for being compared with Pokemon, really). I have several other great games I wanted to play, however, I couldn't play them because I was cling to Dragon Warrior Monster for over 100 hours.
So what's so great about this game?

First of all, this game is straight from Dragon Warrior game creators, meaning that you will be getting all the great elements from Dragon Warrior series such as delicately yet addictively balanced game play (that's right, your health points might be only 65, but it's much better than having 6000 health point because it's delicately balanced), continuing sega of awesome music (seriously, give it up for Koichi, the master composer for Dragon Warrior series and you will recognize lot of musics from previous Dragon Warrior games, plus if you are Dragon Warrior fans, you are in real treat!), and story line, which leaves you for wanting more. You know, about story line, it is really something. It starts out with little brother and sister, trying to get some sleep, then sister being kidnapped by this strange creature. Then another creature comes out to help Terry the brother, to find his sister. You know, seriously, this story starts out like a fairy tale. You are probably thinking what kind of exciting story line could I expect from such fairytale-like story line? I don't know what ENIX did to this game, however, everytime you are playing, you just want to play more and more(ok, I know that didn't help much, however, the way the set up the story with music[music plays a big role here] and the way the story line is being proceeded, it's just great). There are areas you need to explore (by the way, every single area changes every time you go there, meaning you won't be bored by same area, same terrain because it's different every time you go), capture monsters, and beat the boss at the end, and tournaments which will literally test your monsters skill to the max, and lot of side quests will just pull you in. I'm kind of guy who doesn't really get into finishing side quest, however in Dragon Warrior Monster, not only it's crucial part of story but it will also enhance your gaming pleasure greatly. There's this big sort of twist at the end and trust me, I almost yelled out "what the!" After saving the sister, I finished all the remaining special areas and beat Monster Tamer Master- (and you are probably thinking "so what's so special about beating Monster Tamer Master?? Sounds corny, Monster Tamer Master??) And you will only know why I'm making big deal out of beating Monster Tamer Master only if you beat him(ok, may be it's only me who thought he was so hard).
You know, to be honest with you, there aren't that much to the story. You are in there to find your sister, and you conquer each areas to be the winner of the tournament, which grants you one wish. However, I was never bored with throughout the story and it's just so fairy tale-like, yet content is very substantial. Well, if you don't play this game, it's your loss for sure.

You know, I know there are really good games out there, and even good RPG for GameBoy console. However, if you are looking away from this game because simply it's a GameBoyColor game, not GB Advance game, then you are making a big mistake. Seriously, I've been playing lot of RPGs from GameBoy system and I would pick this game over even games like Dragon Warrior 1,2, and 3, even games like Golden Sun, which I enjoyed tremendously (that's right, even games like Golden Sun).

Well, I hope that you would get this game and start right away because I'm starting Dragon Warrior Monster 2: Coby's Journey!!! I drooling because I know what to expect. Just make sure you get the complete monster breeding chart because it's so impossible, trying to breed over 200 monsters with mere luck. Mark my word. ENJOY IT LIKE I DID TREMENDOUSLY!
So what am I making such a big deal out of this "outdated" gameboy color game? Well, think of it this way. You got yourself another copy of Dragon Warrior game (Imagine how happy you are) then on top of that, you are getting this Ultra-Addictive monster breeding action. Now, you might think "monster breeding? oh please, been there, done that" Oh, you have no idea what you are talking about. It's just so addictive, sooooo addictive. Monsters are not corny (ok, some are corny) but when you are trying to breed top of line monsters, oh man, you better prepare extra batteries for a long treat.
Ok, I think I said much yet feel that I haven't really conveyed the significant reason why you have to play this game... Seriously, this is a total package, A TOTAL PACKAGE.

Poke'mon gets blown two bits by Big bang!

In this game you strive to find and resuce your lost sister by training and breeding monsters to win the starry night tournament. There are 200 monsters both male and females, who can be breeded to make stronger mosters. You start with a slimy blob named Slib and move up to stone giants, dragons, and jut about anything else you dreamed up in a nightmare. Only one save slot and can only save in certain places is a bit annoying, but you get used to it. Good for a fan of Pokemon waiting for gold/silver to come out.

Better than Pokemon
