great graphics, but.....

First off let me say that i've been looking forward to this game since Q2. I've never played Unreal but plan to soon, so i'm not knocking this game for that reason.

The graphics are great...if you have the right 3d card. I have an ATI RAGE PRO that's done real well with most everything until now. Occasionally the game will freeze me in one spot on the level and i can't move, although i can fire. If i exit the game and then try to re-enter the game the graphics will be totally scrambled unless i change my display settings to 16 hi color 640x480, or reboot my pc entirely. Just because the box states that it works with certain manufactures cards doesn't mean it will work well.

As far as playing is concerned if you don't have internet access don't bother. The best part of this game is the multiplayer aspect. The solo deathmatches get very boring very fast. There is no level playing field, you can't adjust any of the computer bots to do better or worse....and most of them have a much better aim than you'll find yourself having.

In single player mode you'll basically find yourself running around in circles trying to kill the bot before the bot gets you. After the initial wow of the graphics fades there isn't much more to experience in single mode.

Don't get me wrong, i like the game but it was not what i expected. If you expect something along the lines of Q, Q2, you'll be very disappointed.

Well..

I have both Unreal tournament and Quake 3. Even though I like Q3 I think UT is a better choice. Single player in Q3 totally lacks.. it gets old quickly. The multiplayer is nearly unplayable unless you have something better than 56k or something over a 600mhz processor. Don't get Q3 if you have less than a 500mhz processor..unless you have a VERY good video card. You won't be able to enjoy Q3's best quality..GRAPHICS. Im not putting Q3 down it's a revolutionary game and a good high action deathmatch... I still enjoy playing it online with other people. But check out Unreal Tournament first. UT beats Q3 in most aspects.

A must have game period

Quake3 is awesome. Most people say it's because of the graphics or the dynamic gameplay. Most people will go on and on about the skins and maps that come with the game but the real reason why this game kicks is because of it's community. I started playing the quake games in the early days but I only played them. Up until quake3 I had never thought of getting involved with a gaming community but this game opened new doors. Everything from the maps to the skins to the gameplay can be edited. There are millions of skins and maps to keep you busy and when the game starts getting stale for you, just download a mod. There are more mods for quake3 than UT because q3 is more open. You wouldn't believe the satisfaction you get when you stand over a pile of gibs in your own skin on your own turf all created by you. I hope id keeps up their attitude toward gamer creativity because its what puts this game on top.

WHich to buy Ut or Q3

For a long time Ive been wanting to get unreal tournament.I did not want to get quake3 because my bro had it.After playing both,I learned i should have saved the money.UT is a slow game that seems extremly boring. The internet is bad,and the old taunts played over and over. With Quake 3 It is a fast moving game with many unique bots. From the soldier from Doom to a undead skeleton. This game ia awsome. Also there are a good selection of guns that are easy to tell what they are.The gibs and blood are extemly realistic and make it so cool.In UT the blood is so cheaply animated.all you see are a couple of little red pixels. Also in Q3,the internet is one of the best ways to play because you can meet many people and use items that you cant use in singleplayer.Like the grapplehook. One flaw in quake3 is that there are not as many game choices than UT,but who cares,The game is always fun.Q3 really did take their time to make this a very good game.Im planning to buy quake3 so throw your Unreal tournament copies out because you will never get sick of quake3.

GET READY TO TWITCH AND STRESS

Multiplayer fragfests seem to be the latest trend in gaming, and Q3 supplies as much blood and gore as any fps out there. Everyone has read about how great the multiplayer is, so I'd like to focus on the single player game.
Unlike the majority of the reviewers, I think the single player game absolutely rocks. As you battle through the 25 arenas and five difficulty levels, you'll marvel at the diabolical AI. They think ahead of you, which is scary indeed. The graphics are awesome (we play on a Mac), the sound is cool. The bots talk trash; we've actually laughed out loud at some of their comments.
The bots on the harder levels qualify as Next to Impossible to Beat. You'll cuss like your life depended on it and come up with phrases you've never thought of before. The final difficulty level Nightmare? Forget it. Maybe one day I'll be able to beat Crash (the intro).

But when you do defeat a particularly torturous arena, the feeling of accomplishment is huge. When I finally beat Anarki on the Hardcore setting, I ran outside and yelled, victorious. Pathetic yes, but a testament to the game's enduring value.

I have the demo and its awesome

I have a dell with a pentium II 233, but i just bot that creative annihilator pro with the new ge force processor and the game is flawless, incredible graphics that i have never seen before. The game experience all depends on the video card you have and not the processor itself. Just meet the minimum specs. I plan on buying the full game and sure it will be just better!

This is a real deathmatch !

Ok lets get real. This is a "up in the dreamskie" game so if you hate somebody than you can pretend that he is 1 of the opponents. This game loose of stress & hate. Real graphics and real sound*. This game is "only" a multiplayer game so if you dont have the internet or you work an LAN than dont buy until you have the Internet ! Except you want to have less fun with the "BOTS" So you want this kind of game without using the internet then I recommend... Unreal & Unreal Tournament that is also an Internet game but you get more fun without the Internet on this game.

Thank you

*In the sound feature it needed more music so you could live into the GAME, enjoy!

Is it really that good?

This review will be cut very short. the graphics are good...very good...but not many graphics cards can handle it on middle graphics resolutions. Gameplay is OK. It gets boring after a while. Basiclly this game was over hyped, and you'll need one heck of an internet connection to run this game smoothly online. Don't expect this game to hold your attention for a long period of time.

If you haven't played it yet, you are missing out!

Yes I do have some bias against Quake but I can force that down for these purposes. if you are going to say one game is better than the other, please give reasons. Q3's graphics are obviously better, as are the models. But, for those who say things akin to ", they have things that they say in the chat box that are unique to each one, and each one has tactics it uses! Unlike Unreal, where the level of skill just determines how well the bot can frag, in Quake each bot has tactics it uses. For example, the highest level bot, Xaero, is the master of the railgun and will shoot you out of the air. " number one, UT's bots DO display tactics, they will ambush you, call for help in team games, tell you of important events in team games, etc etc. as for "shooting you out of the air" PFFT. that isn't intelligence it's improved aim. ooh. I can't speak too well for Q3 bots not having fully tested them. Just thought I should remind you to display facts, NOT opinions, as well as keep in mind that problems may rsult from simple things like differing system configurations which, as we all (should) know is the cause of many problems.
