Unreal Tournament is better

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 3 / 8

From playing the test of Q3 and the demo of Unreal Tournament I'd have to say Unreal Tournament is the better game. It just feels better. This is a good game but Unreal Tournament is the one to buy.

It's all a matter of preferance, and opinion.

In my opinion, I like Unreal Tournament better. Now, this is my opinion and I shall explain it. Quake 3 is no doubt a great game, but it falls short in my mind. The largest problem with Q3 is the lack of tactical skill required. I sat at a hall conjunction, shot missiles down the corridors and killed 3 people in 4 seconds. Why? 1) The weaponry is . . . well, destructive, to the extreme. Guns either explode in a huge manner, or shoot an absurdly amount of rounds in under a second. It's reasonably easy to kill people, Worse? You know how the rocket launcher was god in the first Quake? Then, they fixed it in Q2? Well, it's worse (or better, however you put it) than it was in Q1. It is purely, THE weapon to use. 2) The levels are small things. Maybe this is preferance, but it's nice to have variety. I believe there should be levels where you encounter someone every 5 seconds, and levels where you have to make an effort at hunting your opponents. Now, as far graphics and models. I don't really care, graphics are graphics, gameplay is what defines a GREAT game in my opinion. If anything, I admire UT designers for holding off on the thick eye candy for the sake of performance. Models could be nice, to help define the opponent. But, when you are pointed at someone in UT, the name appears to help identify them. . As for the "real feeling." Well, Q3 probably feels like that because of the tight levels and the fact that once someone gets a hold of the Rocket Launcher, everyone's like "Get the GD rocket launcher away from !" Now, as for originality, HA. UT and Q3 BOTH fall short. They go by the standard concept of point, shoot, unload 50 rounds into opponent to kill. Now, if you like that, fine, play them. But, games that are really pioneering the way to 3d Multiplayer gaming is games like Rogue Spear, and Rainbow 6. Also, Team Fortress 2 will come out. I believe that TF2 will outright wipe the floor with UT and Q3.

Second to Unreal Tournament

Unreal Tournament is a far greater game. I found this game to be bland as it hasn't changed much from the original quake. Also Unreal Tournament has native support for Glide which allows me to run the game at a much higher resolution. Unreal Tournament also has 5 differnet game modes whereas Quake 3 only has Deathmatch and Team deathmatch (although eventually capture the flag will be added). I'm going to spend my money on the full version of Unreal Tournament and keep Quake 2.

Quake will always rule..

When it comes to playing online, the one game that rules hands down is Quake II. I can only assume that Quake III will follow suit. I played a little Unreal, and while the visuals are something to see, I always return to the "bloodletting". Quake rocks, and especially Quake WOD. Pre-order your copy today, and repay those that have brought us so many hours of fun.

Dissapointed!

I had been looking forward to Quake 3 for ages and if it had been released without Unreal Tournament biting at it's heels all would have been well. Unfortunately Quake has really not offered anything new, brilliant graphics and sound but take that away and you have nothing thrilling, even the weapons are the same old thing.

UT is a much more interesting and unique game...

santa claus, you moron.

"A voodoo card just won't do. Voodoo cards do not have FULL Open GL support, and therefore will not work with this game."

"Santa Claus", you moron. I have a Voodoo3 and it runs fine. All Voodoo cards, even the Voodoo1, have FULL OPENGL SUPPORT.

Aside from that, Quake3Arena is a great game. The netplay is great, even with a 56k modem, so you don't have to worry about always having a high ping, like with most other net games. Player models are great, weapon models are great.

The grafics are good but the one thing i did not like about it was that you could only frag poeple and you have to have more than one player to play the game.So i give this game three stars. For me i have a 1-10 point chart and i paly all the good games. The best games are killing games.I recomand: Unreal,Metal fatigue,Duke 3D,And carnovors.

id does it again!

Im sure the big question is UT or Q3A. Right? Well Ive played both, and well, QUAKE III ARENA RULES OVER UT! You might say that UT has all that team, and Q3A only has DM. Worng Q3As team matches are a riot! What I do is set the frag limit to around 500 (true) and go and turn freidnly fire off. god its AWESOME! ITS A RIOT! Then CTF is a ture DM expeirence in Q3A! Especilly in the floating levels. And over all the graphics are better, sounds better, and better weapons (I love the machinegun/shotgun/railgun). Player models are so cool. From The Orbb (an eyeball with legs) to id's old heros (Doom/Quake/QuakeII) everything is awesome. And Q3A bots are much much better. The only bad part is the reqs. Oh well. Small sacrafice. Big game. GET IT

unfortunately 0 stars was not an option

This game should be named Arena Gladiators from the makers of Quake II. This game has absolutely nothing in common with the Doom/Quake family, with the exception of the outstanding graphics. Valve and the writers of the next Half-Life mission pack should not worry. The game is premised upon the idea that you want to play deathmatch games.

Q3:A vs UT

Unreal Tournament is all eye candy and stuff but the theme of the game is just "urgh".

What about Q3:A? I think it's going to be the game of the year. It has playability, graphics, excelent re-programability (Mods), etc, etc. UT is not as all-round as Q3:A.

TF2 will also be a great game, but I don't think you can compare it to Q3:A and UT as many do.
