Save Your Money

What a disappointment. I've had this game for about two weeks, and have already grown tired of it. I can't even play it anymore. Sure, the graphics are very sweet, but the gameplay is extremely lame. If you have Quake II, then you already have Quake III, just without the great graphics. Go get Half-Life.

Nah

Unreal tournament blows this game to pieces. don't waste your money on a game that has horrible gameplay and low FPS graphix. UT will always be #1.....

System Requirements are misleading

Prior to buying this game I spent a considerable amount of time ensuring that the system it was to be loaded on would meet or exceed the requirements as stated by the manufacturer. The system, a PII 400, 128Mb, Matrox G200, NT4.0 does. The game will not run. Activision confirmed that the game will not run with a G200 and NT. If you're considering buying the game you might want to check with the manufacturer to ensure you're configuration will work.

Quake III - poor successor to Quake 2, Doom, etc

What a waste of money! After enjoying the battles in Wolfenstein, Doom, Doom 2, Quake and Quake 2, I was sure that Quake III would blow them all away. I was tragically wrong. It is just a single person shooter against very boring bots. There is no exploration, no secret places, no interesting critters, no advancing from level to level, no save and no resume. Maybe if you're in to fragging anonymous spotty boys via the Internet it might have some attraction but I'm not so it didn't. It's utterly devoid of imagination. ID software will not get any more of my dollars. Try the demo before you put down real cash for this hollow shell of a so-called game.

Why does it just go purple....anyone?

On my AMD-K6 300 with a 4mb Voodoo card and 64 mb of Ram this game just doesn't run...I've tried everything...updating my Voodoo Drivers..DirectX amd GLSetup...I've checked everywhere...every Readme file and every F.A.Q...they never menrion this problem...My screen just goes purple all the time. On the other hand my Unreal Tournament runs just like a dream.

I've played QuakeIII Arena on my brothers computer (which is btw a slower computer than my own)...and I we were both really surprised by the lack of quality in this title...It all looks so rushed. The surprisingly bad level design was the biggest problem...There isn't a single level in this game that matches the old Q2dm levels...In fact they're much much worse. I was a big fan of Quake2 multiplayer, but I can't bear to look at this...The weapons are also not as fun as in Unreal Tournament (I always felt that the secondary fire was missing) and they sound like pop-guns. The announcer voice is also very irritating.

The Graphics look good and all...that is if you have a ridiculously fast computer and 3D accellerator. Unreal Tournament runs well on my brothers 200 mhz 64mb Ram voodoo2 computer with some details taken away...Quake 3 just doesn't work well on a low end computer like that. I also think that the graphics in Unreal Tournament are much more beautifull and well designed.

All in all this is the biggest flop I've ever seen in the game industry...You people will probably buy it in tons though....but we will all laugh when no-one buys Quake 4.

Buy Unreal Tournament...It's the best game I've ever played...and the assault and domination modes are just fantastic.

...And if anyone knows why my screen just goes purple...please e-mail me.

i thought it was kind of cool the first time i played deathmatch. but then i played unreal tournament, and descent3. it pales in comparison to either of them. the weapons are old and tired, and the onlything new is the graphics, which are so-so. don't waste your money, go get UT or descent3. they are alot more fun to play at lan partys, and online.

Wow look at the pretty engine. THere I have said everyhting good about this. I swear progreammers are more interested in pretty than contenet. I would rather play Doom than this. Quake3 is all glitz and no depth. Where is the story? Where? It left with Romero when he went to form IonStorm

An outstanding piece of junk

Quake was awesome, Quake 2 rocked big time, but Quake 3? People, save your money. The game is always Deathmatch or CTF, I first get the game, play about 4 hours a day, it was great! Stunning graphics, but now it's BORING! It gets boring real quickly. You MUST make sure you have 100% OpenGL support, that is a major thing. I just got a new computer, oops! I don't have the GL stuff so I install the GL Setup and it destroys my computer. I wouldn't put this game in my computer to save my own life. Besides the fact that it destroyed my computer, the worst part about the gameplay is that you can die, come back to life, then get killed 0.000001 seconds after you come back to life, don't even know what hit you. Buy Half-Life, it's much better.

Incredible graphics but mindnumbingly stale gameplay

It's very simple, if you just can't get enough mindless DM (deathmatching) then this is your game but if your looking for some extremely fun new modes of gameplay AND having the option for DM, I highly recommend either Tribes or Unreal Tournament. This game lasted less than one week on my harddrive, booooring....

Quake3 lacks in the gameplay area.

If you have a fast network connection, a speedy high end system, and you like all eye candy and no game play then this is the game for you.

The single player aspect of Quake 3 involves running around a small, poorly-contructed level trying to eliminate a "bot" before it eliminates you. The bot AI is pretty bad, more skillful bots just seem to put one through you with god-like accuracy every 5 seconds. As for multiplayer, unless you have a fast internet connection, you'll be lagged to hell and back, giving a someone who does ample time to put a rail through your skull..

Mostly all of the weapons in q3 are the same from the previous quake games. The level design isn't half as good as q1 or q2. And what's with these models? Did I just see Tigger hop by? or was that pikachu? Where's C3P0? Give me a break, it's like watching a Dr. Who marathon or something.

Overall, I'm disappointed in this game, I'd recommend Soldier of fortune or Unreal tournament.
